Hello.. anyone out there know anything further about the IMU and Monash M'sia interviews :?: What type of questions do they ask? How do the interviews go about? (for both IMU and Monash M'sia)
If anyone has already gone for the interviews before, i would certainly appreciate your help and advice!

 bY the way, anyone know the cut off CGPA point for Monash Malaysia and if MUET is accepted by them? On their website, they didn't specify.. just said they want excellent results..

Thanks!

I am in IMU now, and so I can describe more about the IMU interview, and how to ace it.

The interview is conducted by mostly IMU lecturers (a majority of whom are medical doctors). There are hardly any medical-related questions, but if you do get them, answer these questions with confidence and to the best of your ability. I was asked about CVD because i mentioned that i wanted to become a cardiologist, and I nailed it because I had done extensive research on this issue.

The interviewers want to see how well you communicate, and what kind of personality of have. They ask probing questions like 'What characteristics do you have that are NOT suitable for a medical doctor', which you should answer wittily and honestly. Speak enthusiastically, and do not treat the interview too formally. Enjoy the experience!

A crucial question in the IMU interview is the case scenario. An example: you are an A-Levels lecturer, and your students all scored excellent results. they want to sponsor a week-long holiday to Australia for you. Do you accept or decline and why? Answer well and think critically, giving good reasons to support your stand.

Ok, that's all from me. All the best to everyone aiming to enter IMU, and I hope to see you guys there!

There's a thread somewhere in ReCom that I started right before I went for the interviews. I'll have to assume you're asking about the medicine interviews.

Here it is.

Just wondering what they asked you with regards to cardiovascular disease? :)

Hi youngyew. :)

Oh, the IMU interviewers asked me about the prevalence of CVD in Malaysia, so I told them it was the number 1 killer. They also asked me about the major risk factors and how to treat CVD. To that I answered: diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and dyslipidaemia were the main risk factors. The preventive measures would be eating a proper, balanced diet and having regular exercise, while the treatments were statins, beta-blockers, aspirin, etc. I think my precise answers gave them the impression that I had a real interest in cardiology, and this probably gave me an advantage in my interview. :))

You definitely do know quite a lot for someone who's not yet done medicine :) Do you by any chance have family members who are doctors?

(The only thing you missed out there was family history :))

Yep, I sure do: my uncle is a cardiologist (haha) and my aunt is a chest physician. Thanks for your compliments. :laugh. I guess they sort of inspired me to become a doctor too, as they are successful yet caring doctors in their own right. :)

For IMU, you need both MUET and IELTS though. For MUET, achieve at least band 4, IELTS 7 and above.
