Me too! US engineering. I agree that ivy league unis are difficult to enter. But not all Ivy league unis are ranked high in engineering. For e.g. Harvard is more for business, Brown for medicine, Yale too....check out US News. I think we should aim for the top engineering unis in US instead of the 8 Ivy Leagues. But still, MIT is also tough to enter. This year only 5 admitted. 5 Malaysian students!!!! =(

hi guys,
I got engineering in US too
The Ivy League is an athletic conference comprising eight private institutions of higher education located in the Northeastern United States. The term is now most commonly used to refer to those eight schools considered as a group. The term has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and a reputation for social elitism.
the ivy league unis are :
Brown University - Providence, Rhode Island
Columbia University - New York, New York
Cornell University - Ithaca, New York
Dartmouth College - Hanover, New Hampshire
Harvard University - Cambridge, Massachusetts
Princeton University - Princeton, New Jersey
University of Pennsylvania - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Yale University New Haven, Connecticut

Ivies are usually not well-known for Engineering, as pointed out by fellow ReComers. However, there are JPA scholars in the past who graduated from Ivies in Engineering or Sciences and went on to professions totally unrelated to Engineering.
Getting an Engineering degree doesn't mean you have to be en engineer in the future. Many Engineering students go on to consulting and finance/banking, which are two of the most lucrative professions.
Some of the universities famous for their Engineering department are MIT, UCal Berkeley, Stanford, Caltech, Cornell and Geogia Tech. As far as I know, P'ton and Dartmouth's Engineering departments are very strong as well.
As for the selectivity in getting in those universities, well, it depends... Not extremely easy but I guess it's not totally impossible as well. :D
I'm new guy here, but first thing i like to say is this web site server is suck. Here are some useful sites for you to know better on the ivy league universities:

Agree with caramel_nut, most of the engineering graduates from top U.S. Universities do not end up being engineer.
For Cornell, only about 10-20% of engineering graduates eventually become engineer for 1 day. This does not mean that engineering major there is not good. Just go google Robocup, Formula SAE, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and you would find that Cornell Engineering has won several world champions in those competition.
Most of the engineering graduates from Ivy League, in fact, a lot of those Ivy Leaguers, as well as other top universities, end up go into consulting and investment banking. These 2 are the 2 of the most lucrative fields in US and around the world.
A portion also end up doing PhD to go through the track to become academicians.
And in US, I believe most of you are aware that studying engineering does not mean that you would be learning mostly engineering. I only take 20% of my courses in Engineering. Most engineering students take about 20-40% of their courses in the field only.

5 is more of an exception than a rule. Usually, only 1-3 Malaysian students are admitted to MIT each year.
And yes, Ivy League is an athletic conference though nowadays it is also synonymous with academic excellence and low acceptance rate.
When it comes to engineering, overall, I guess Cornell has the best engineering college of all 8 and Cornell has the highest acceptance rate(well, about 3-8 Malaysians each year).
If you have any question about engineering in US, especially about EE, pm me.

earlier, you said....
"most of the engineering graduates from top U.S. Universities do not end up being engineer"
does this mean most graduates with engineering degree will be unemployed?

I think what chenchow meant is that most engineers 'chose' not to become an engineer after exploring the vast curriculum of the liberal arts education in the states.[/i]

Quite the opposite.
Many chose that path because of $$$....not so much on what one has learnt in college.
