You don't have to choose, JPA will choose for you.

Perhaps you can ask them if you want to increase the number of subjects you are taking.

What subjects do we have to take during A levels for a medic student?

The university does not requires you to take four subjects, only three. But the fourth is for insurance because they most likely will pick the best three marks. For INTEC, UCSI and HELP, their board is edexcel while the rest is CIE.

Is Biology essential for a Geologist?

You can take any combo that you like if it is Cambridge A-Levels. In England, there are quite a number who take 6 subject. I have not heard of more. But only a few get 6As.

A-Level does not use the GGPA system. The just count the As like SPM. So just like SPM now, since so many people get 10As, so many people get 3As and 4As for A-levels. So there will be those who want to do better.

to get into good UK uni, you will need to be out of the ordinary. in imperial, most take 4.

US uni differs from UK unis in a way that it wants well rounded student, whereas UK unis usually look at your alevl result and ur personal statement. Correct me if I'm wrong.

does jpa allows us to take more than 3 subjects?do we have to pay the fee by ourselves?

my friend(who currently studies in Kolej Yayasan UEM under petronas scholarship) told me:

To enrol in Uk uni, u must be well rounded.

So, ur subjects taken in A- level should contain both science and art subjects(for science students)

My friend is now taking english(ielts), maths, physics, further maths, n economics.

Correct me if i am wrong.

I don't think so as you can choose whatever subjects that you like and it caters to your specialisation.

I think u misunderstand me.

He(my friend) chooses all subjects himself(english & maths compulsary),

but related 2 the field he studies

No that is not true. The syllabus differs abit only. But it is much easier to resit the exam for Edexcel compared to Cambridge.

Actually there are JPA scholars who are required to take 4 subjects in A-Level, Bio, Phy, Math and Chem. Somehow, most pre-medic students don't do extremely well in Physics.

The Edexcel is modular system which I think is easier as the students only study a particular chapters before going to the exam and not studying everything all at one go.

The modular system may seem so but the final paper (Unit 6 / Synoptics) will cover everything from Units1-5 so you still need to know all the stuff from the very start of your course... Plus, in subjects like Physics, the Unit 6 paper is quite different as you'll be given scientific articles to analyse (e.g. come up with your own formula and explanation based on real research stuff), so it's not all that direct either...

Depends on where you go and the condition of the university. Some more prestigious universities might consider a edge if got 4 subjects.

A levels are all about flexibility so regardless of examining boards you are allowed to take any subject you desire. It is not restricted only for Cambridge A Levels.

It might sound easy but imagine sitting for 8 to 10 units at one go....does it look easy? And the units get harder as you progress too!

Everyone under the A-Level Medicine programme in INTEC takes 3 subjects : biology, Chem and maths. Few are taking physics classes, external exams are optional..
( AUSMAT lecturers are teaching them )

Regarding the "toughness" of Edexcel,
1) biology's syllabus is kinda short although the most compared to the others
2) maths has only 36 chapters, stats 8 chapters and chem bout 16

Most of my frens get 90 above for every single exam.. so it shouldnt be a prob if you can enter INTEC in the 1st place :D
