I believe there is a need to talk about loan since people mix it up with another totally different entity, which is : scholarship.

Loan works differently compare to scholarship.

Unlike scholarship where the success of completing the course is important, loan is simply financial aid to help those who wish to further their studies, but do not have financial capability to do so.

The MAIN criteria should be the financial situation of loan candidates for obvious reason. It is for the poor, not rich people who can afford to study. Poorer students will have better chance of getting a loan.

The second criterion is the academic performance. It shows that the student have the potential to take up the task of completing his or her study.

The third criterion is character and talent.

Other additional criteria includes cocuriculum etc.

Racial and gender factor should be eliminated completely for obvious reason.

Basically compare to scholarship, the main and second criteria is inverted.

Loan should be given out to as many poor people as possible but less in amount per invidual.

well and again, i agree with the 3 main reasons that u have stated for the "criteria of loan"

but still i dont agree with this statement

"Loan should be given out to as many poor people as possible but less in amount per invidual."

Since poorer people, as many poor people as possible should get but they should get the sufficient loan since they are poor.

And the interes of loan should be logically and not so high, as this is financial aid for studies, not for profit.

high loan is a liability to loan takers. It will place them in long term debt, which is not healthy.

Lower loan encourage the loan takers and families to bear a part of financial responsibilities during loan takers studies. This also reduces the burden of loan giver so that more number of loans can be given away.

not high loan, but sufficient loan as i would say.

Anyway, lower loan will burden the families members, while high loan will increase the loan givers' burden.

Who knows, that there are family that dun really can afford the fee even a little amount?

how about give them sufficient loan, let them concentrate on studies , not taking any burdening part-time job if it is not nessasarry, then graduate with better results, get a better jobs with a higher salary, and then pay back easier and faster. :?
