Hi, I got the offer letter for UNIMAS Medicine today.

I heard the general ranking for local medical schools are as followed...

UM, UKM, USM, Unimas, UPM, UMS.

UPM Medic is more competitive than Unimas just because it's in Klang Area.

Well i am from UMS and basically UMS (medic) provide much more practical trainings to it's student. Apart from this, the students at here are exposed to much more cases at queen elizabeth hospital (since there are not many hospitals at sabah). They will start their practical training from second year onward at basically they will stay nearby the hospital. Sometime, as part of their assignment, they will be transfered to the rural area for a few weeks to provide free medical checkup for the rural citizens. I think that's a very good exposure for them... Anyway, I am not UMS medic student but then this is what i heard from my cousin which is taking this course. She is the first batch of UMS-medic... Actually, I don't know much about UNIMAS medic but i think UMS medic is quite good as well... Just my 2 cents... BTW, did you put UMS as ur choice? hahah...

Haha, reputation-wise. UM is for sure more prestigious than Unimas, but I heard Unimas lecturers (mostly from overseas, eg Myanmar...) are better than UM lecturers.

unimas suffers from a problem with attracting and keeping good senior doctors and lecturers (loosing them to private sector and other med schools who pays better)............so makes up the shirtfall by employing burmese lecturers...........many of them non-practising doctors, and some rather outdated...........and some with a language problem.........students have trouble understanding their english through their accent........

they have a problem tapping into the rich pool of moh specialists and very senior private consultants..........wasted resources.........

graduate doctors from UNIMAS have good reputation, most if not all. They are well-trained practically.
UNIMAS medic students will have their WEEKLY clinical sessions at Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching since their first year. Most of the lecturers are practising doctors or specialists at Sarawak GH (it is of walking distance to FMHS, UNIMAS). The medium of teaching is in English since first year.
My friend currently in UKM-Medic said that the lectures in Yr1 and Yr2 are basically in BM.
