i'm under jpa and i'm bound for new zealand for engineering...but i think i might want to go to australia because...well,there's much more choices of universities...and more reputable ones i suppose...
so....any idea abt how i should go about this?
have anyone tried doing this and succeed for engineering?
i thought of just applying to the australian universities..but these applications might cost a bomb at the end of the day....some universities charge AUD100 ..per application...please help.thanks

I do not think it is possible, since scholarship is a privilege, not your rights (since government never owe nor guarantee you anything)
So far I only hear of one JPA kid who changed his country successfully.
If not mistaken, that kid's name is Shen Han and he is taking medicine. He whined non stop like a baby all over the media until the government tulan, gave him UK.

I heard some manage to change but New Zealand is quite okay. Fresh air and nice weather. It is a bliss going there.

While I agree that we should appreciate what we have, and that New Zealand is a fabulous country; I don't think that we should be mean to our friends who want to change from new zealand to australia. He might have valid reasons for preferring one country over another, and as long as the change doesn't affect others, why should we reprimand him / her like a knee-jerk reflex?
It's not like someone is asking for one billion when given one million.
By the way, I think JPA has been rather strict in this issue, and it's rather difficult to change countries.

agree
but try to respect his choice
so it's rather difficult?
hmm....well,i know nz is a beautiful and very nice country....i'm not saying nz is some lousy place but their university choices are rather limited....and jpa is gonna select our universities...
so if someone has obtained an excellent result...and u're sent to an unknown university, would u be happy?or satisfied?.....

I do not think you should be choosy over "branded" university, as you are getting free education by the way.
Many JPA holders go to much worse university.
Only a few very lucky ones get the "branded" status.

Oh, if that is the case, try and send them a letter about it. But you need to make sure you got a good grade... JPA is quite strict about changing countries. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just give it a try.

You apply yourself but the unis that you are allowed to apply to are within your designated country and the approved list of university within that country.

maybe you can bribe them 100000RM :P
they asked who wanna change country? are u sure?
erm...if nobody insists on getting into branded universities then it's like a waste of money wat....dont u think so?the fees are almost the same and it's better to get into a branded uni...

TS, please be GRATEFUL, they are alot of hopefuls who wish they could secure JPA schlarships and yet, they have been dissapointed again and again after being rejected by JPA even after the 2nd 3rd appeal process...it is time for u to realise that getting JPA is a golden chance once in a lifetime, stop complaining and instead whining like a loser, concentrate on your Pre-U, dude..=.='

However, there might be some reasoning behind if ones want to complain and ask to change countries. If you got sent to Indonesia and there are wars there. Would you consider it if it could concerns your life there?

yea...plz see the post b4..he/she know he is very lucky to get the scholarship..he juz wan to know whether he can place himself/herself in a better place or not
HEY!!!
i am offended. I am currently studying in University of Auckland, NZ under JPA. Although I am not an engineering student, UoA is famous for its engineering school. Do some research on the various universities in NZ, namely UoA and Uo Canterbury - they are actually quite well known for their engineering courses. Drop by Selset in Subang - they will tell you about the engineering courses in NZ.
NZ is a nice place to live in and yep, dont hesitate to pm me if you want to know more.
Can't wait to see you. One more victim to bully. :P

wow..this post is useful
Well, appeal to JPA. If it didn't work out, appeal again when your pre-uni results are out and you managed to secure an offer from the Australian unis.
Don't worry about the application fees for Australian Unis. Apply through an agent/education consultant. Application fees are normally waived if you apply through them.
Just to give you some motivation, my friend's appeal to change from Australia to UK for medicine was approved by JPA this year. However, they will only sponsor the final 3 years of her degree.
