Hi! I've just completed STPM and I'm having a hard time choosing between Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry. Any advice? Job prospects and income-wise.

2) How much of Physics and Maths are involved in Chem Eng? Like 20% Chem and 80% Phy? I used to love Physics before I entered F6 but slowly grew to dislike it, especially the chapters on electric and eletronics which I find difficult to understand.

3) Despite scoring pretty well for SPM Add Maths, I had to struggle for a B for STPM Math T. Will Engineering Math go anymore tougher?

4) Which public Universities would you guys recommend for the above courses?

5) And if I got accepted into any local public U's, is it possible to pick elective subjects from other faculties (i.e Japanese Language, Business or Econs) besides the ones related to Chemistry, Physics or Math?

6) Is it true that a First-year UM student (or any other public U's) is required to stay in the hostel for a year?

Hi Yulie, currently I am doing Pure Mathematics in UM...hopefully my answers can clear out your doubts...

Chemical Engineering in UM(others pub U I don't know) consists of five mathematics courses... furthermore the maths involved are certainly more difficult than STPM maths...
Besides, you need to study chemistry and biochemistry so make sure that you got strong memorizing ability...others are laboratory and the physics courses but mostly focus on thermal.

I recommend UM if you want to enter local public U...it's recognized by UK...this is what I heard from my roommate...

Yes, and indeed you need to take an elective course from other faculties...you will soon know the details once you get yourself into any pub U.

For UM, you may move out once the orientation has ended, but staying in hostel is much cheaper than staying outside.

Five Mathematics course? O_________O;
Do you know where I could find out about the syllabi? I can't seem to find it in the UM site. The Engineering pages seems to be down..

I'm gonna be biased ler coz I'm recommending my old uni.....

4) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. During my days (2003-2007) if you go through any engineering course in UTM without failing once, damn gaya!! Industry people would know.

5) You can attend foreign language classes, either included in CGPA or not but with the whole proper accredited test.:twisted:

6) Most unis do I think. UTM JB, every student starting 2003 intake has to stay in hostels. They have 17 colleges!:twisted:
