I had my SPM in 2007 and i received my results today.i get 8A1's and 3 A2's. It's a heart-churning moment to see all my 3 sciences get A2.
I don't know what happened to me. It seems I can wave goodbye to JPA scholarship already.I understand that the chances I get into medicine is preety slim(if not impossible),with most of the top of the cream in Malaysia aiming for medicine.
should I still apply for Medicine or is it a better option if i switch to other courses like veterinary science?
Please enlighten me. I'm feeling lost.

It depends on how much passion you have for medicine. Do read this post (http://recom.org/forum/showpost.php?p=152228&postcount=12) by tehjiao. It might sound a bit exaggerated but it's indeed the life for most junior doctors in Malaysia, and the life will go on for quite a few years until you settle down in your own practice or specialise in less stressful fields.
If you are not willing to give up much of your personal life (yes you DO have to give up quite a bit of social and personal activity as well as interest in the pursuit of medicine) then it's worth considering other profession.
A cliche question here: why do you want to be a doctor?

I aspired to be a doctor since young.
When I was in primary one, my mum was half-paralysed because of an accident. It was a heart-breaking moment to see my mum suffer, and its even worst when I can't do anything to ease her pain.Since then,I aspired to be a doctor.
I don't aim for the high salary,I don't mind the 72 hours hard labour, all I want is to offer my service to those in need.

I can't say much about the chances as I have no idea. I really hope I can help.
But I would like to wish you good luck and don't let your aspirations die.

Wendy, I am sorry to hear about what happened to your mum. It must have been a life-changing experience for you.
How is your financial status? And what are your preferred countries? Are you able to afford places like Russia (~200K to 300K) etc?

I come from a humble background, but my mum's high medical expenses spent most of my parents' saving. So it is not possible to send me abroad anymore. JPA is my only hope to get into medicine. In fact, i don't wish to further my studies in UK / Ireland..i know that is not possible. All i yearn for is India or Indonesia.

My advice is that you go for medicine course. If you can't secure the scholarship in the first time, make your appeal, through MCA. Normally MCA will highlight profiles like this and your chance of success in you appeal is rather high. Though for this year, I'm not sure how much can MCA help.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I would evaluate all the factors and make my choice.
Good luck everyone!

Even if the chances are slim, all hope is not lost. Have you ever considered STPM as an alternative? Or matriculation?

yes. If i really fail to secure any scholarship,Form 6 would be my final choice.

hi rach,
to be frank, i think the chances would be quite slim especially since having an A2 in Moral. i'm not trying to degrade you in anyway, but vet is among the top choices for those who have problems securing scholarship for medicine. so there might be more straight As students who would be your competitor.
but still, apply for it. who knows, you might get it!!!
good luck!!!

Again, it depends on various factors. Probably you have something else to boost your application aside from results! =)

Hi Wendy!
I am a non-bumi who got 8A1s and 3A2s in SPM 2007. The subjects that I failed to score an A1 are Biology, Chemistry and Chinese. Last week, I applied to JPA Medicine and am shortlisted for the Program Pendedahan Kerjaya Seorang Doktor. :oh Are you shortlisted for that programme too?
i saw ur post in another thread. i thought u've applied for medicine. how come u changed it to veterinary science all of the sudden?

Hello, I want a government grant. I`m seeking help from the government or federal state companies that give/grant government grants and loans for personal use, bills, opening a new business and just plain old help. I really need help to find a federal or any kind of government grant for? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Please help me. Thank you very much in advance.

Normally with this results, you can get the interview, but the chance of getting the scholarship will be lower.
