Hey I'm 17 this year, have sat for my SPM last year and just got the results last week.

I have made up my mind to take up Form six as my Pre-u program. I'm quite interested in law study but due to my lack of proficiency in spoken English, I decided to enter form 6 instead of straight taking up foundation in law so that I have time to polish up my English and at the same time, boost my confidence.

I'm a science stream student and I'm not willing to switch to art stream as I want to leave my options of becoming pharmacist and solicitor open.

So I would like to know whether I'll still be accepted into the law faculty of local university ? I have heard that history is a must-subject in order to enrolled as a law student in Malaysia local university.

What about private university? As far as I know, law study in private university does not require certain prerequisites like other subjects, for example, pharmacy which requires certain grades in 3 science subjects.

So should I say I'll still be accepted into law degree in private university despite I'm a form 6 student taking science stream who don't take up any of the extra art subjects ?

You can check www.mohe.gov.my for the requirements needed at each university for a clearer idea of what is required of prospective students.

As for private universities, there don't seem to be any subject pre-requisites. In fact, you can get in with 2P's in some places.

I know nuts about local universities.

But, as far as i could remember, you do not have to be an art/humanity student to pursue a law degree as far as private colleges are concerned.

In fact, certain universities prefer non-law people because they are new and fresh, hence able to absorb and digest the principles easier without prejudice.

Nevertheless, I personally reckon that a sound foundation in law does no harm as it sort of lightens your burden in the first year. Yes, only first year.

p.s.Anyway, it never fails to amaze me whenever people relate history and law together, claiming that ..'oh-history-is-a-mandatory-subject-in-order-to-obtain-a-law-degree'..

No problem. I have a friend from science stream who got 4.0 in her STPM. Then she applied for UM Law and she got it...
