This is a new feature on this forum.

What is it?
It's a thank-you hack.

What is it for?
It's a convenient button to press to show your gratitude toward someone's useful/constructive/informative post.

Who can use it?
Everyone, except banned user and guest.

Where is that button located?
It's beside the multi-quote button.

How do I use it?
Just click on the button at the person's post that you wish to thank.

Why do you install it?
It is an easy way to say thank you and let people know that you are grateful for his/her post.

What kind of posts are useful/constructive/informative?
Those stickies one made by the staff are kind of informative. Sometimes, people post really good tips on how to be a good cook. Other time, people come out with good points in debates and so on.

Bottom line: Use your head to figure it out. It should be VERY self-explanatory on which post to thank and which to not too. :wink

How many times can I thank?
I believe it is infinite. But you can only thank the person for that post once.

Can I misuse it to demand thanks from other members?
No. :modsmack

Why do you work so hard to install hacks?
I just try to make this place a better place.

When are you going to stop with your blabbering?
Now. :leen

Enjoy the new feature and don't misuse it. :wink

And now, let me the first person to use the "thanks hack" to thank Leen for installing the "thanks" hack. :D

Edit: If you are a Digg user, basically just treat this "thank" feature as "digg up". :)

IS this some kind of reward for contribution to the forum?

Pardon me for my ignorance but what on earth is trolling?

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion

IS this some kind of reward for contribution to the forum?

No. It's just a way to say thanks to people.

thanks sounds lame use reputation...

Reputation leaves people rep whoring. I know that system and I used it before. Plus, once people have lots of rep power, things will only become more complicated. I have gone through all that once so I am sure that I do not want to use that system here. Thanks work fine because it doesn't give you any reputation or rank. :laugh

No narcissism. :modsmack

I think there should be a page specially for most thanked post, so that others can also read the useful posts. The page should work like Digg.com

I thought that would be better too. Unfortunately the thanks hack we are implementing is from another coder, and it currently doesn't offer this "front page" feature. Unless we write our own code to implement that feature, it will not be possible to enable it in short term.

Luke our wizard should be able to do that, but he is not free all the time. How I wish we have lots of coders among our members. :P
