Since the jpa interview for year 2008 begins tomorrow (1 april), i thought this might be the right time to start this thread. those who attend the interview process this year earlier, like tomorrow, please feel free to post your experience, questions asked during the interview and advice to those who are about to attend the interview on later date so that everyone can benefit from it. i know, there are already a lot of post about jpa interview... but this one is specifically for this years interview exp by candidates who attend the interview from 1-4 april....and try not to post questions, just exp, opinion and advice...strictly regarding this year's interview. finally, good luck everyone...:)

Anyway, jpa interview candidates can start posting from tomorrow(1 April).

This is exactly what i am looking for!!
For those who had already gone through the interview should really try to post up the questions asked during the interview and how you responded to the questions.
That is really important as in the previous years all the recommers did this as well!
So for those who will be going to the interview tomorrow "GOOD LUCK AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU!!"

Kinda agree.... Or else this will turn into another spamming thread...

And I suggest that those who went and don't mind to share their experience should include details like:
Interview centre:
Session (i.e time):
Numbe of students in group:
Topic:
etc.... and some detailed interview experience so that those going the following days can get a clear picture...

Okay, I'll copy those who posted in the other thread over here...
Hullo.
I just finished my jpa interview. Mine was at 8 am.
It was quite okay. Nothing too difficult.
For my group discussion I got 'Why is education important to you?' which is a surprisingly simple questions compared to the ones people have been saying will be asked.
I didn't get any questions on cabinet ministers or the general election, so I don't think you guys need to worry much.
Although maybe the questions you get depends on luck a bit.
i've done my interview..

first, my grup consist of 6 candidates.. 4 boys 2 girls
then the interviewer ask us to introduce ourselves in 1 minute!!!
just say--ur name, family background, schools n course u applied

then, we were divided into 2..3 students in each group. my group should discuss about ''how to be a good malaysian abroad"...then the interviewer choose randomly on who will present first..the other group "why education is important"

then..he ask if we had any question..and THAT'S ALL!!!

tips for those who in need---

1- just answer based on question given, jgn jawab/explain anything dat they didn't ask...a boy beside me got smacked when he explains why he choose medic...the interviewer said "i just ask what course did u apply, u don't have to explain" ...got what i mean?

2-for medic students..there's a tough copetition out there..there r lots of candidates applied for medic.. i asked them how many spaces r there for medic students n there's only 500 spaces for that course

aahhh...i've done my best! it was such a relief!!! thank god!!!!:)) pray for my success in architecture!

I hav jus finish my interview in Nilai, at 8am...

The whole interviewing process is jus simple n relax ... ( although the JPA officer who interview me turn out to hav come late )

First, after pookin around in the huge campus to find our interview location... we register ourselves by signing names on the paper pasted on the wall ... n then we hav to go to our interviewing room ( in my place, we hav 3 diff interview room ) ... then we hand our all of our documents .... then wait ... wait ... till they call u to enter the room ....

After entering the room, address the interviewers politely n then grab ur number card on the seat n clip it onto ur shirt pocket ( the numerical order of interviewing is predetermined, n is not by following alphabetical order ... sorta random sortin ). after tat, we jus take our seat n we r given a cute nice little piece of white paper, n we r told the topic of group discussion, " Why is education important to u ?" After only 1 min time to scribble down all the points tat come thru my mind, the interviewer ask the No. 1 person to speak first ... n, sadly, tat is me ... i jus sit straight, address the interviewer n peers, n start crappin ... but remember to crap bout things tat r related to urselves ( such as aspiration, sum advanced knowledge n other achievements ) bcoz u r not given any other chance to talk bout such matters...

While i am crappin, my groupmates r still bz scribling down the points ... btw, one thing tat i wud like to highlight is tat, group discussion is actually conducted by one person presenting at a time, it is not actually group discussion... lol .... ok, then, after tis round is finished, we r asked bout those general ques such as why do u choose tis course n which country do u like to study in n why ... beware those who applied for medicine, they will shoot more ques at u than usual ... lol ...

N after tat, i went home gladly ... lol ... tat's all ... hope tat my experience can help any of u here ... feel free to ask me if u hav any ques ... :)

No they didn't asked me both of the above questions but they did wanted to know why I wanted to apply to study abroad than in Malaysia.

I suppose I should explain the whole interview experience for me.

There were about 14 rooms I think, for the interviews held in Putrajaya. My group consisted of six people. Most of the other groups are the same. Mine has 3 boys, 3 girls. All of us wanted to take different courses. There were two interviewers. Both female. The first one was a bit fierce (she was so serious and her facial expression makes people think twice about their answers. An 'Are you sure?' look.) but the second one was nicer.

Anyway, we started with introduction about ourselves in BM. The usual stuff. Name, background, school, etc.

Then we entered the group discussion with the question 'Why is education important to you?' (I noticed lots of people got this one). We we given about 5 minutes of preparation. Then we started. It was great fun. Just enjoy yourselves. Think of it as a conversation between intellectual friends. If you stumble, smile, say sorry or excuse me and start again at the beginning of your sentence. Don't mind the interviewer much during the discussion. Since your discussing with the other interviewees, its better you look towards the person talking at the time. Look interested. Listen well and you can add stuff, agree with or disagree when you want to.

After we finished our discussion (around 20 minutes or so), the interviewers asked a few questions.
Why do you want to study abroad and not in Malaysia? What will you do after you graduate with your degree? Where do you see yourself in five years time? What is the starting pay you expect for your job?
Those were some of the questions we got. There's 2-3 more but I can't really remember. (Mainly because I fibbed a lot on those. As logically as I can. Haha.)

Then you can go out and take a deep breathe. Exhale and be glad its over.
Hope and pray for your success in the meantime.

That's about it. Any questions, I'll gladly answer.

Edit: I forgot to add that after speaking in BM for the introduction it was English from there on until the end of the interview.

I just came back from the JPA interview :D

There were two interviewers in the room. 6 ppl in a group. My interviewer asked us to introduce ourselves in BM then the discussion in done in Englilsh.

This is what my interviewer asked the other candidates. "what is your parent's job?", "Which country did you apply?", "Why do you choose that course", and the interviewer asked one of my group member (who wants to be an actuary), where does he want to work in the future and does he know what actuary do. and he seemed quite panic because he is supposed to answer all those question in BM!

In the meantime, there's another girl in my group who wants to become a "pakar jantung" as she said. then the interviewer asked her, "why of all organs, jantung?". "What are the functions of your heart?" etc. The interviewer also asked one of the boys in my group who wants to do medicine, what's if they send him to Indonesia, will he accept the offer? That boy answered "Yes". Then they began to boom him with a lot questions.

Then the discussion in about "vision 2020"..

Need to restart com now, TALK BOUT IT MORE LATER K! :D
my intro was in bm.. and discussion in english too! the topic was Vision 2020 also. Seems to be a hot topic I guess. just talk freely during the discussion. u'll be fine if you can speak english fluently. cos before we entered the room, one of the ladies on duty came up to us and said "kamu semua apply program luar negara ya? must be good in english la because luar negara kan?"

in my group.. 2 medicine, 1 accountancy, 1 chemical engineering, 1 economics *me* .. i saw most girls wearing formal attire.. not baju kurung.. good luck people!

first of all, i'd like to offer my utmost thanks to all the recomers..especially the moderators and seniors like chenchow, sillyboy, miracle seed, xon, sugarspice, wendy and skatemusicianer (ur blog really helped)..i had been regularly following up on the posts here and gained much knowledge thanks to all of you and other regular contributors..haha especially in the now 90+ pages jpa thread..

ok so now, my experience..details first
Place: Kuching, Sarawak
Venue: Pustaka Negeri (State Library)
Time: 8 am
Course: Biotech
Results: 10a1 1a2 (EST)
Co-cu: so so treasurer, secretary..no wakil sekolah or negeri and higher

Ok i took off 1.5hr earlier and reached there at around 7..there were many people who came after me and we were free to mingle around but most gather among their select group of friends. We waited until around 8.30am then the long awaited interviewers/panel arrived..in smart-looking coats and jpa badge. We were then told to go upstairs and have a seat at the sort of waiting hall. Names were called and a group of students were gathered in a room..i later found out that it wasnt the interview room but a 'preparatory stage'. We were told to look for our names on the list posted up and sign as a show of attendance..we then wait not-so-patiently outside until our names are called..so yes they actually divide us into smaller groups though we are of the same time..there wasnt any specific arrangement for my group (diff courses, 4 male 1 female, not alphabetical names, diff schools..but maybe around the same I.C no. but not too sure) Anyways they'd soon call you into the preparatory room where they required us to show the Borang Pengesahan Pendapatan (somehow they only require the original..photostated copy not used at all..there was a guy who did not have as he just came back from NS so they asked him to send it to an address by tomorrow) and we are required to hand in our photostated copies as well (please note that those who wanto 'donate' their clear holders will not be successful as they will ask you to take them out and they'd staple or clip it for you..whereas for those who bind it up, they have no choice but to accept..haha i know because my group consists of all those people who went the 'extra' mile to impress ><) thereafter, we were given a square piece of paper, name tags (or rather number tags cuz it just has numbers) as well as a pencil..haha i didnt get to use my own stationery at all..we waited in that preparatory room and was only called in when the group before me ended and came out.

Yup the moment of truth..we lined up according to numbers and walked into the room in that order..i took the initiative to greet the panels and the rest echoed as well..haha well it wasnt like how i thought it will be. First, we are seated on one parallel row facing the panels..meaning we do not face each other at all. This contradicts most info where they said we were supposed to be in a 'discussion' or sort of gameshow like where we are supposed to grab our opportunity to answer questions thrown by the panels..nope such was not the case for me..maybe its just this year, or at kuching or maybe at this place which lacked a conference table or round table..haha i honestly don't know except what i had been through myself. So ok, the panels introduced their names and asked for our original certs in clear folders to be placed on the table. Then we start to introduce ourselves..he didnt give us any guidelines but said around 1 min should suffice. Basically i'd recommend name, age, former school, family-how many siblings & dad and mum's occupation, course chosen and why, hobies/interest. Dad's occupations and course chosen was particularly important as he(panel named mr ross) would prompt us if we leave it out..perhaps its differs from diff panels but ya..i don noe. Oh ya let me clear something up- the entire interview was conducted in english..from when he asked us to sit down until we shooked his hand and he bid us good luck..no mixture like intro-bm, discussion-eng..but i was told the previous group had it all in bm..hmm)

Okie so after that we were given a topic and was given 2 mins to jot down points..mine was major achievements of malaysia in the past 50 years, the one before me-why do you choose to study abroad and not local when m'sia is promoting itself as an educational hub..i doubt that any of these questions will repeat but ya. After 1 min or less, we were asked to begin and the numbered 1 guy took the initiative to start (our intro also followed in order from 1 to 5) The panel would then question him after he is done talking and ya..he would thank you and move to the next in that order. Meaning we only have 1 chance to talk and no, not to each other but to the panel who would be staring at you the whole time (unless of course he is bored and looks away..which kinda happened to me ><) there was a girl who spoke in broken english but he (panel) was kind and did not ask her many questions and just smiled and nodded..there was a guy from a prestigious private school who spoke like a toastmaster..superb vocab and facts plus he fired his sentences rapidly like he was reading it from a book..haha..he wanted econ so he slotted in alot of facts concerning our msian economy..the panel was interested in him the whole way and asked him many questions..haha so its safe to say the more questions he ask of you..the more you interest him..i think i only manage 2nd best after this crazy guy..haha =P

So after the 5th person..we were told its over and i took the initiative to shake the panels hands and thank them..haha they followed suit as well..oh ya i forgot to mention about the panels..there was one who talked to us (mr ross) and looked at us throughout the interview and another who just sat silently and looked thru the certs..until the end when he dropped a bomb and asked if anyone can name the current agong..haha he wanted the full name again >< none of us knew unfortunately (but fortunately also that nobody in my group knew =P) so ya do expect the unexpected.

After that we went back to the preparatory room and returned the tags and pencils which will be reused by the following batch of students..haha about dress code..there was a guy who wore sports shoe, another who wore short sleeve, one who wore ns blue uniform, some who wore light brown khaki slacks...whereas for girls most wear the lawyer type of black and white shirt with long skirt and some wear the normal collared blouse and skirt while a few wore baju kurung (weird cuz i thought baju kurung was preferred) i have no idea what happened to them as i wasn't in the same group as them but i do advise this- guys to have black working-type pants, black leather shoes..ns or marching shoes would be alrite, a coloured long-sleeved shirt with a matching tie (many wore white or black..i wore green with yellow tie =P..so ya i stood out among the rest) Girls i guess its best to follow our senior recomers' advise of baju kurung..but i think normal-working-formal type of outfit should be alright as well..depends largely on the interviewer's mood actually..haha

So ya, as far as timeline was concerned..i was the 3rd group called in at around 9.45 and interview started around 10 until 10.20a.m..yes we each talk around 5mins max plus intro 1 min..haha i always thought it was an hour discussion..guess not..

Extra informations and confirmations..there was NO essay writing nor any psychology test of any kind. There was a notice which stated that those who are going germany, japan and italy(i think) will know their results on 18th april while the rest are on the 3rd week of May.

That's about all i have to share..hope it helps.

JUST GOT BACK!

heres my experience:

1 Apr, 10.00am, Merlimau Melaka, Panel 3

Well, you go there and there will be a list on a huge whiteboard. Find your name and sign there. Remember your number(there is a number beside your name/IC) There are 3 different panelzs of interviewers, each consisting of 2 people. After you hv signed, just sit down and relax, the kerani will come and give you a borang semakan(on blue paper) for your documents. Arrange the documents according to the borang!! It is NOT the same as the one u got on the surat temuduga. So there was quite a flurry to rearrange all the stuff.
Both the original and copies of the sijil is to be arranged as follows:

Surat Temuduga
IC
Your bitrh Cert
Parents birth cert
SPM 2007 results
Koku certs
School leaving certs
Slip gaji
Borang pengesahan pendapatan
Anugera lain

If you do not have copies of your surat temuduga and your borang pengesahan pendapatan, fret not. Just put them in your original documents folder and hand them in to the kerani after the interview.

After being called, we waited outside the interview room. There, the kerani will check all our certs and make sure they are in order. usually you will have enough time. I was called in a group of 5(one person didnt turn up) 3 girls, 2 boys. While they are checking your certs, its a good time to get to know your group members. We had to wait about 20 mins before the earlier group came out. If you got any questions, you can ask the kerani at this time.

Before you enter, they will ask you to bring a pen. A piece of paper will be provided but we didnt use it at all, no time to jot down points...
Upon entering, sit according to your number as told to you by the kerani. There will be number tags on your setas, clip them on your shirt.

My interviewer was really nice!! All those getting Panel 3 in Melimau can relax! Only one guy was asking questions. The other one was just sitting there, checking our files. So we started in BM. We were asked to intro ourself in 1 minute. Intro including name, origins, parents occupation, siblings, hobbies if you wanna mention. They asked some of them about more details on parents occupation n pay. Questions I got:

in Eng: What is Vision 2020 to you?
What are the challenges in reaching Vision 2020

we weren't given time to think at all, so it was all spontaneous. don't clash with other calon when you want to speak...if the topic runs dry fast, the interviewer will give you more questions, so if you can, stall by elaborating abit more..

It wasn't like a group discussion. All of us just gave out opinions. I noticed my group members were just staring straight ahead and didnt intereact with others so I reccomend that you just look at them when they are talking and nod a little.

It was over and we thanked the interviewer and took back our files. No girls shaked hands with the guy interviewer though. So we went out and handed the surat temuduga and the borang pengesahan to the kerani outside...

The End.

It was pretty nice really, it really does depend on the interviewer. Oh and the interviewers wear coat/jacket so if you see them walking around just ish them good morning. I didnt know that guy turned out to be my interviewer though :D good impression for you i guess.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL GOING LATER!! relax and everything will pour out smoothly :D

Ok its my turn to post my experience.

Location of interview : MIRI
Time : 10am

I went there and register myself by signing on a attendance list. Then a group of 5 were called into a room to get ready and we're given chance to know each other 1st.

When it's our turn, we walked into the room with 2 interviewers inside. They introduced themselves and asked our to give a brief introduction about ourselvees. Introduction includes name, sch name, family background, sibliings, cocu-activities, hobies in 2 mins.

Then our topic of discussion is given.
Which movie do you like the most and why?
We're given 2 mins to generate or write out our ideas.

The question is like.. okay...its quite differnet from what i've expected. I thought it should be sth like general issues in msia? Bt no.. that's what i'm given. Each of us is given time to give our own opinion and the rest just listen to you.

The interviewers even laugh very high with us.. =.= He asked us if we like horror movie.. then he laughed.. (shok sendiri.. ) This is REALLY not what i had in my mind about this interview. My group members were so happy and relax that they said they wanna be interiviewed again .. :notrust

This was quite a strange day for me.. Unexpected interview questions, unexpected interviewers o.0

All the best to rest of you who are going to take part in this interview. Have fun. U don hafta stress urself..

during my time the interviewers also asked weird questions as well..
It was simply chit-chat moments among us..
Actually my interviewer talked a lot, and at same time, give a fair chance for others to talk as well..
We juz discussed about science, Steven Hawking's "The Brief History of Time" (Since somebody did mentioned he like the book)
and I and my ex-schoolmate(in same group) secured for JPA as well
That's last year...

It is better to bring as how is stated on the your interview slip. And, it was even stated in the program pendedahan kerjaya kedoktoran slip that, those who fail to attend/complete this will lose their qualification to apply for the medicine scholarship.

However, I'm not sure about the course-changing matter during the interview.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

hai guys, firstly before sharing my experience i would like to thank all the people who run this wonderful website...and believe me, it had helped a lot during the interview process this morning! So thanks guys!!!!!! now back to the sharing experience part...hehehe...

place: putrajaya
time: 8 am
room no 16( i think...forgot already!) and panel 5

through my experience today, what i can say is that they were so many students there man! most of them are wearing baju kurung, the suit & pants, ties and also some of them were wearing JEANS!!! i felt pity for that girl coz she was so out of place....so to all interviewee out there, please dont copy this guys....

ok...the things that u MUST bring will have to be

1. surat temuduga
2.everything on the list
3.dont forget the borang pendapatan and also ur parents original paycheck & borang e ( i saw the interview checking all of those things during the interview!)

now the interview process....first ur given a name tag( i got no 6. the last one in the group!) and i was the first group for panel 5! the interviewers consisting en johari & pn hartina( if im not mistaken...). they were very very very nice! pn hartina is the one who checked all our certificates(she really did!) and en johari as the one that was asking questions....first, u were asked to introduce ourselves in malay...tell them about ur family background, ur academic achievement & why r u apllying for ijazah luar negara...u will start with the person wearing no 1 nametag....the atmosphere were very relax, and please dont over promote ur self....juz emphasize on the reasons u want to study abroad...it's that what people really want to hear....my tips for this part? juz be urself, talk slowly & make eye contact with everybody in the room....dont worry, it comes natural...

then the second part...ur required to answer the topic totallly in english...and my topic is how malaysians students can do better abroad?...and i juz luv the topic...it's quite easy compared to the other group which got about the high price of flour or petrol( something like that..). during this part, anyone can answer first...juz express ur ideas...i was the second one to answer...i talked about promoting malaysia overseas & try to get the best results( and of couse i elaborated the points!)...so then the interviewer asked that most malaysian scored good results but came back as a person who are so timid and passive, so what should we do?...so then i answered, that we must try to create something new & different so that people willl know malaysians are capable to do something like that...my tips for this part? dont try to overshadow others, if u hv already got ur chance to talk, let all the other students to have their chance first before u started adding one of ur own to get extra points...dont look to needy, like ur so desperate to talk but juz make it simple and sound friendly...make eye contact with the interviewer...and control ur tone la...dont sound like debating....and last juz let it comes naturally, it really shows during the interview....

and then, finish! as for me, then we got to exchange numbers with the students in my group...and i really enjoyed the interview process! the interviewer were extremely helpful, keep on giving advice on how its gonna be in overseas...quite nicela, not what i expected at all! for me, i hv done my very best and i do hope i'll get this scholarship...hope u guys will wish the the best of luck ek!

and so to all the interviewees out there, all i can say is that juz try to enjoy urself during the interview....and try to make new friends while u were there becoz it will really be helpful as u will become more relax...dont worry, being friendly will not affect ur chances in the interview at all! so last but not least, juz unleash ur confidence! good luck!

ABOUT CHANGING COURSES

Before you enter the kerani will ask medic students if you wanna change courses. Only medic students. So if you do, let them know!!

I dunno about other places but this was in Melimau Melaka.

Good Luck!

Miri, 1st April, 2pm, 2nd group - 5 people (4 engineering and I med)

I just went for the interview thing. It was not as scary as I thought. There was no essay writing. The test is taken online. All I did was waiting for the 1st group to finish about 30-40 minutes. I think that's the average time for most groups. My discussion topic was " Malaysia's younger generation prefer to watch entertainment program than to watch serious programs such as news and current affairs" It was easy but at that time my head was almost blank. I tried to impress the interviewers by smiling and i did a mistake . it should be 'good afternoon' and i said 'good morning' !

Will my interview be affected? I hope not. Oh and continue, the interviewer asked us to intro ourselves one by one. It was a brief 2-min intro and I think it;s important to impress them to make urself stand out from the group. I'm not quite sure how was mine but I think I did okay than expected. Wasn't that nervous after all.

During the discussion, everyone's points were almost similar. WHen he asked whether we had anytihng else to discuss, most of us just kept quiet. Then this guy tried to break the silence and started summarizing the whole thing and he brought up ways to make msia's youngsters to watch news. And I got a point then I just shoot. Actually I didnt quite know what was I talking about. I really hope I did okay.
There wasnt any one to one interview. No other questions were directed to me. Only one asked what course I'm applying for. That's all. He didnt even ask why or where you choose to study and stuff like that. The whole thing was pretty simple.

Location of interview: Kluang, Johor
Time: 10am
Panel 1

First, we have to introduce ourselves in BM. Have to tell them our names, number of siblings, parents' jobs and monthly income, course applied, reasons applying that course and country we wish to go.

Then we were given 2 questions. One in BM another one in English.

BM : Belajar di luar negara memberi kelebihan berbanding belajar di dalam negara. Setuju atau tak setuju dengan statement ini.

English : (We interviewees were asked to choose a number, and we picked no.4) Define "Healthy Lifestyle" and how do you apply it as a student study abroad?

In these 2 parts, it wasnt anything like group discussion, just like presenting our points individually in a group. And we didnt even have time to think for our points, just be spontaneous.

For the last part, there's a Q&A session. I kept bombarding them with questions although I already knew the answers, just to let them know my existence. Haha!

To all other interviewees in later dates, I just want to say be confident and speak out every point that swirl through your minds, dont care whether it's wrong or right because the kerani outside told us the interviewers just want to test if we have the guts to speak and not really care about points given. I'm not really satisfied with my performance because I was quite panic when it was my turn to speak and that made me to stutter a bit when speaking, I think that's the only flaw for me.

So, just relax and enjoy your interview! Good luck!

mostly is the reasons why is it like that, and ways to make youngsters watch news or even why do msian youngsters have to watch news rather than entertainment programme. Try to come out with all these points because if your point is taken you still can at least use the other points. Oh and we were allowed to bring in our notebook.

Hi. I finished my interview this morning. Phew! I am so relieved.

Basically, i went to the required location quite early. This is the golden opportunity. Utilize this time to make new friends. Try to get to know all of the other students applying for JPA. It was fun getting to know each other background and such. It will help to relieve the tense atmosphere because you know your competitors( perhaps their weakness too; hehe).

We were all gathered together and they brief us how to arrange documents step by step and reminding us about the online exam. We were slowly split into different groups according to the IC list they put up. Six at a time. I was happy as i already know three of them in my group. Hence, i felt a slight relieved and can relax a little. You see making new friends do help!

We went into the interview room and we faced by two friendly male interviewers. Luckily, my group got the nicer pair among the other JPA interviewers. The tension in the room went very low. Everyone was quite comfortable. I heard other interviewers had serious faces on . They make them answer unexpected questions like the Agong's FULL NAME which is super long. Well that's a hint for you guys.

The interviewers played a small "April fools joke" on us. At the beginning he asked " Sila buat "introduction" tentang diri sendiri" . We all thought we had to speak in "BM" and the vocabularies were rushing through my head. They didn't specify what they want to know too. IN the END, we were suppose to answer in English. Funny lar this interviewers. I had to re-interpret what i had set to say on my mind. Oh well. One advice though, make sure you look at the interviewers. One poor boy in my group didn't SEE and HEAR the interviewer cutting him off as he spoke too much. And he went on and on; interviewers weren't interested anymore. BTW, he mentioned about playing DOTA which is like the killer for your intro. On my part, i try to keep it light and joked with the interviewers. I think people prefer a bubbly personality than a serious and too intellectual type. Its my opinion though

For the second part , we were asked to do debate style. Our question was:

"Rising oil prices is a threat to our country's economy"
I was quite happy.i though to myself: We get to do our intro and discussion in English!

The interviewers split us into government(pencadang) and opposition (pembangkang). We were given time to write our points. I was the opposition. We thought and thought our points in English and getting all the facts i got into my mind. Finally it started and the first speaker begin sharply using some flowery English phrases UNTIL the interviewer interrupted : Your English is very good, now we would like to hear you speak in Malay.

!@<hidden>#$%^^&*!@<hidden>#$%^&*!@<hidden>#$%^&* went through or minds. The interviewers enjoyed their little evil scheme against us. It was hard enough for us to be opposition . Now we had to do it in Malay. Anyway, i manage to give my two cents worth of though on the topic. But basically everyone except some were interrupting each other. I spoke about two times. I wanted to further elaborate the third time but they(interviewers) stopped the discussion. I couldn't get a word in at the heated IMPOLITE interruptions. I think that's a really bad idea to interrupt impolitely. At least say excuse me or pardon me. I think most of us went off topic but i did try to get two points on why Malaysia economy will still increase. Halfway through the discussion we were talking about bio-diesels , hydrogen engines and bringing in foreign experts to solve the oil price issue when we're suppose to be talking about the economy. Would we get penalize? i donno. Can someone enlighten me on this one?

Anyway, we finished in 45 minutes . Supposingly the longest time for a group i think, in my location. Well we didn't take notice of the time anyway. Haha. Well i guess debating is like that. May all of you get the topics you desire tomorrow! Hopefully your interviewer won't do the same to you people. Haha

Khuanoz, together we help each other. =D
thanks for the detailed description.

so you mind tell me which school you from?

Oh, i was in SMK St. Joseph, Kuching..the other guy which i talked about who was fluent was the umm head prefect from lodge (no offense to you ya in case you read this..i totally respect you and it was a worthy defeat to a debater and mooter = ) haha

There was another friend, classmate of mine, Johnny Lau who was in the 2pm session..his was 8 people seated in chairs arranged slightly curved facing the interviews..amazingly enough..his topic was the EXACT SAME as mine- major achievements of m'sia from the past 50 over years since independance..too bad he did not do much homework although he knew from me cuz we all thought the probability of it coming out again was zero to none. This is probably so cuz he got another diff pair of panels who were in another diff room from me..haha so my assumption is that they are given a set list of questions and are supposed to either one of it..hmmm well, on to the differences..besides the numbers in a group and chair arrangement..the intro was conducted in english and the discussion was in bm (they were told- sila cakap dalam bahasa melayu before they begin) halfway through however it got changed to english (johnny said a girl was facing difficulties and there was quite an uneasy, lengthy pause so the interviewer maybe kesian her so asked her to speak in english instead) He did not receieve any last-min-score question like my Agong's name ques..and most IMPORTANTLY his was not opinion-based like mine but the typical discussion..he had to continue from what the previous person said and either agree or disagree and add in your own points..unlike mine which is like everyone giving their 'essay' orally..literally (meaning to say it can be similar points and everything) he had to raise up their hand if they have anything to add and the panel would then look at him and let him answer..there were many weird questions from his interviewer (maybe he is a bit mean or just playful ><) and they deviated far from the main topic..for example someone would talk about technology and he would ask the guy a related question-if you are an engineer, what can you do to promote social harmony or something like that (i know it doesnt makes sense but God knows how far they deviated! haha) in a nutshell, it was about countering each other's points rather than saying and repeating the points in a better way like mine..=D besides that, it was the same in the sense that the panels are 'equally divided' into 2 roles namely the 'talker' and 'listener' and general 'question asker' as well as the 'silent-act bored-look through certs-ocassionally add in some tip bits guy' =P

I have a story to share with you all fellow recomers entitled:
"Don't 'dig your own grave' "
There was this girl in the interview with johnny (i sincerely apologize if you are reading this..i mean no offense and just like to share with the others so they would not suffer the same fate as yours) who tends to say something which is not really wrong but ends up bad..more of unlucky on her part i guess..
1)in her intro, the panel asked if her mum was working..she said no..normally it would be understandable that her mum is a housewife/homemaker..but then maybe the panel wanted a more elaborate answer so he shot her-so cooking, washing and cleaning is not considered working? she fell silent..
2)in her intro as well, she talked about why she wanted pharmacy..she implied that she wanted it for the money (as in can earn a fat salary) and thus got a comeback from the panel again >< (sorry unclear because johnny wasn't sure about wat she or the panel said)
3)in the discussion, she was first to start and she mentioned about m'sia having 'universiti bertaraf dunia' so again the panel caught on and retorted-then why do we need JPA to send scholars overseas? wouldn it be better for us to put you locally in our 'universiti bertaraf dunia'? again silent..

pity her..in the end she kept quiet until the end..sometimes malang really tidak berbau for some people..

these are some more questions which were asked in today's interview sessions in kuching..
-Importance of education
-How to maintain a healthy lifestyle
-What is the best sports achievement in m'sia
-What is your favourite movie and why (same with another recomer in a previous thread..hmmm)

Once again, i hope those of you who have yet to sit for the interview will benefit from this post..many thanks to my friend, Johnny and others who contributed their questions for me to post here. Thank you for all the recomers who thanked me as well..inspired me to write another looong post partly because Johnny doesnt have a recom account yet..= )

Yours truly,
Sern Khuan

oh ya..i forgot to add that before we were dismissed from the room..the panel asked if anyone who wanted to change course can do so now..so ya for those who wanto..just wait patiently until everything is over ya =D for those who queried about sijil kewarganegaraan ibu bapa..(it says bagi yang berkaitan or wherever applicable so ya i think it must mean your parents are not local so for us m'sian parents..i don think there's much need to worry for that)
that's all =D

Haha
anderscheng is online now

wow you had it rough..interrupted..april fool..debate..eng and bm! gosh..i really like my panels..haha thank you mr ross and mr yusof =D for your kind smiles and relevant questions =P

Hi, i went for the interview this afternoon, 2pm at Perpustakaan Negeri Sarawak, Kuching. The interview was not scary at all and i think the two panels were very nice to us. We have six people in a group, but a gal didn't turn out just now. So, there are five of us(3 boys and 2 gals). Four applied for engineering(including me) n my friend, a gal applied for accounting.

First of all, one of the panels asked us to introduce ourselves. I introduced myself(name, school, family backgrounds, siblings, hobbies and my favourite subjects). The panel did ask me which course i'll choose for engineering, but he did not ask me why.

After introducing ourselves, the panels asked us whether we like sports or not. We replied yes and we chose badminton, but i prefered badminton and football. Then, we had sports as our discussion topic "Name a sport which excel well in Malaysia. Why?" We were given two minutes to write down our ideas, but everyone was busy jotting down the points, we have no discussion. >.< Then, we started to talk one by one. Four of us choose badminton, but one guy prefer squashy. One more question, the panel asked us "Why malaysian football can't excell well and compete with others?" That's what we had for our interview(overall an hour long) Hope this will help a lot......

I hope i do well just now.... lol

I have just merged a redundant thread to this one. If you are talking about your JPA interview experience, please do it in this thread instead of opening a new thread. Redundant and scattered threads only make it hard for everyone to gather information.

Thanks miracle_seed for copying the posts here a few pages ago. Next time this happens, what everyone can do is to press the "report this post" button (at the lower left of each post) so that the moderators can take action on the redundant posts. Do use the "report this post" for vulgarity, obscenity, spam, trolling etc too. This way we can take action quicker.

Im from Kuching.

My topic was "Rising Oil Price Threatens our Country's Economy."

It was done debate style, with my group (6 people) divided into two teams- three pencadang, three pembangkang. Unfortunately I got pembangkang and there was not much to talk about it. We all went out of topic at least 80% of the time.

The topic was given in English.

But when the first person started speaking, the interviewers said:

"You all are so fluent in English. Everyone please speak in Malay in the whole discussion."

Everyone was o.O because our notes were all in English. So the first speaker fumbled a bit then got on track. I think it was sort of an April Fool joke on us.

Why would there be nothing to talk about if you were the opposition? Our country's oil export is more than import (at least for a few more years), so the money here might be put to some good investment by our leaders. Of course the corollaries of the rising oil price in economics would affect us as well, but the fact that we are an exporter means that we are not necessarily affected as bad as the others.

I also went for my interview today.
There were 6 of us.
They tend to like to mix races.
Actually I was kind of lucky and kind of unlucky.
Lucky because the discussion was in eng and i only answered one question in bm.
My interviewer could win the "ask hard question award"
I felt the only thing that went wrong in my interview was that I spoke a little too much but I feel since I was talking facts and my points were reasonable it was'nt a problem. At least she only gave me the look whereas she smack the others about being too quiet, not energetic or being too sombong.I guess you can't throw critism into my smiling face.lolz.
(If you are reading this interviewer.....thanx....scared also if JPA found this site.hehe)
At the end I felt I had to loosen up the situation by laughing when one of us said that he sumpah to come back to malaysia.LAUGH PEOPLE.....dun be so serious,haiz.....luckily they did and I was'nt a maniac.
Later after the interview I got constructive advice from my fellow interviewees:major problem......I explored every avenue of discussion that everyone's points came from mine.sorry guys......no wonder she gave me THE LOOK.(this is bad look ok)haiz.....
well what can I say.....at the end we all repeated that we wanted to come to malaysia 6 or 7 times until the garang interviewer also laugh at us d.
We shoke hands and I hope she does'nt think I dominated the discussion.because I KNOW fellow recomers already warn but u know r people who r public speakers n debaters will understand how i feel.we reli cakap banyak mah.hehe.

In fact in Kuching, for my interview time which was 8.00, I only spotted one Malay. Everyone else was Chinese, or mixed with the father as Chinese.

Odd eh?

Either way, I think some times we should let the interviewer have the last word. Talking back might sound rude or cocky. But in this situation, I think everyone should clarify themselves about why they are applying for the scholarship even though their parents income is up up up there.

can you share more? you're panel 1 or panel 2?

I was in Panel 2.

The interviewers tried to joke with us, but IMO it was their tactic to see how we would answer a spontaneous question. Some of the jokes were mean though. For example, a girl told us in her introduction that her dad was a Bank Manager (A mistake, if you ask me. There is no need to invite trouble).

So the interviewer said "Your dad is a Manager? Then you must be rich. What for you apply?" And mind you, this was all done in a joking friendly manner, as though they were trying to be our friends yet asking questions like that. Her reply was "My mum is a housewife" which the interviewer said "I don't believe you." The girl I think reached panic mode at this moment.

Another boy in my group also committed suicide by saying in his introduction that he loves playing ONLINE games, especially DOTA. The interviewers eyes enlarged at least 1 cm when they heard that. I mean, WHO on earth in a Scholarship interview wants to admit that they like playing online games.

Unless you apply for engineering and say that it improves your hand eye coordination and motor skills la, which would help in the course you applied for.

well..

my group was in 6.

we have group interview.

1st we are asked to intro ourselves.. dey guide us in this..
i supose is just to make sure we are the right person for interview..
well, dey ask my name, wher im from, wad bidang i wanna take(which i forgot to answer, yet dey dint ask), and 3 achievements of koku.. by the way, he asked in BM so all of us answered in bm.. i guess it'll b fine if v also answer in english in some part like "president" instead of "pengerusi" and minor stuff lyk dat..

2nd we are told dat ther r 2 session.. 1 is bm den bi..
but den v oni had 1 question bcz v have too much point of view lols..

v started like so formal and its like whaaattt..
sum1 sed like "soalan yg ditanya ialah realiti tv membawa keburukan kpd remaja. Saya setuju dengan pernyataan ini...." i wuz like whaattt.. nid so formal meh..

den sum1 cont, " sayer nak tambah isi so-and-so. selain blablabla, realiti tv juga blablablabla..seperti academy fantasia.. ==

den others folo on in the karangan-writing style just in an oral manner == on guy sumo sed like, sebagai contohnya blablabla.. ==

after all the oth 5 gave their pendapat, im the last one.. den i started to agree with them and give more realistic example of how realiti tv can influen us..

wen v get more casual den v all just speak in a normal way and disagree and argue with ea oth.. haha..

out of a sudden a guy try to "manage" our points and wanted to came out with langkah-langkah untuk mengatasi..

olvy1 is giving their points, ibu bapa, rakan sebaya, kerajaan etc etc..

the interviewer asked if is ther anything else v wanna say, i supose she wanted to change the topic.. but i did a "smart" move to bring all of us back to the lame topic..

til a stage d interviewer sed, "why not from now on v use english with the same topic, but dont repeat ur points"

so v use english. den when v mention reality tv giv v influen to waste our money.. i sed my fwens invited me to vote for wad wad msian idol ==
den another gurl gave us her exp, she sed she was a victim hu wasted dat money..

den another person sed dat by this 2 real life exp, v can conclude blablabla..

den d same person tried to mange our points again.. psst, honestly i think he fail to do it both the times xD

and the interview ended just like dat.. d interviewer asked us if v hv any questions.. v ask a couple of ques and dey cant give a proper ans.. so lame.. ask us if v hv ques, in d end, asked us to fon the wad wad department.. ==

a tip here for reality TV..
if every1 says dat reality tv brings keburukan, u can b the different person by saying "Who wants to be a millionaire" is a educational reality show.. it does not bring bad.. and also this reality tv is need for the tv station to earn sufficient money to provide us with better shows like discovery chn? or national geo? mayb u can also throw ur group with this question, "if reality TV brings so many negative things to the youths, why then the whole world have reality tv show? not to mention dey have way more than us.."

dats all, all the best!

btw, forgot to mention, im in panel3 in putrajaya..

me....
panel 1, intan wilayah utara,s.p.,kedah..

i am true blue ipoh mali but due to ns, i had to go to this place for my interview...
my interviewer were a lovely malay lady and a malay encik.
my group has 4 gals inc me, of which two are chinese and two are malays.
when we were seated, the lady ask us to listen to our topic....
"Rising oil prices a threat to the country's economy".......
we were given some time to prepare our points....ermm...jot them down more likely....and soon we started....the first two agreed that it would be a threat to the country whereas i, myself, disagree with them *wht to do, was born a debator..love rebuts...hehe*

but frankly speaking, i think i blew my chances coz i talk too much....but, i had to admit that i don't really know what i was crapping abt.....he actually asked in english during the whole discussion.
later, out of nowhere, he asked, in malay, why did you choose the course....luckily for me, i was not caught off the guard...and, i could see that from his face, he was surprised that i was able to answer him back in fluent malay...wakaka....
the lady was quite a hard one though....basically, she's doing all the shooting...hella....
anyway, she's still pretty...btw, the name is natasha....
and yea...the weird thing was, they didnt bother for us to do some intros whereas those who went to panel 2 were required to do so....pretty weird....

ummmm...i guess that's all....

friend 2-discussion-malay:mengapakah pendidkan penting?
eng:what u think about vision 2020

friend 3-discussion-eng:why education is importand?
malay:visi 2020

kluang, 1st April, 10am, panel 2.
my course is veterinary science btw.

the interview wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. my group consisted of 5 people, 3 girls & 2 guys. basically, we had to introduce ourselves first. make sure you answer back in whatever language they ask the question in because one guy made the mistake of introducing himself in english eventho the interviewer asked him to do so in bm so he got told off for this. also give ur own opinions when they ask u a question bcause another guy when asked why he wanted to study in germany, said that 'kerana jerman merupakan negara yang pertama untuk bla bla bla bla..' bu he got stopped halfway.
just briefly tell them bout urself : name, school, spm results, family background, etc.
but don't go on too much about urself.keep it short.
i got quite an easy topic : films you have watched recently && what you thought of it.
i started off first & yeah. if u feel that u talked too much like i did, then just quickly ask other people what their opinions are, so that it doesn't seem that ur dominating too much. oh & try to look at the person talking & look interested. eye contact is important.
for the bm session, we had to discuss about the dewan rakyat, & what we think it is.
later on, the interviewer asked what was the yang dipertuan agong's name, so make sure u take note of it.
in the end, the interviewer just started to talk to us about students who refuse to come back & work in msia && like how we should have knowledge about our country && system everything, etc etc etc.
but yeah, thats basically it. it wasn't too bad.
just try to stay calm & think it through before answering.
good luck && all the best (:
i just hope i secured the scholarship x)

Ok..1st thing sorry for all recomer members for being late sharing my experience.
Well, my interview is at 8am( the earliest batch) but i reach there about 8:45(wow, some may think too late) ..but in reality, the interview is based on 'first come first serve'theory.
I am not purposely to be late , just the cramming traffic jam plus the time i waste in searching the Jpa interview location( USM indeed big, as u all noe)
So i was panel 3 and due to my late comings, so i mix with some of the 10am candidates ( some 8am oso there)
There r basically 5 people in 1 group.Dunno lucky or unlucky, i was the fourth of the 5 candidates.
session 1 is introduce ourself in malay(tat part is just ok for me) while for the malay(there r 2 malay girls in my group) ..they speak fluently.on the other hand for our chinese people, we just speak moderately(not so fluent compare to the malay accent).

Session 2 is a giving opinion session..u may not be afraid of not being given a chance to speak.there is one by one rule..so everyone can speak and give their opinion when it is his or her turns.
The topic given is " wat is healthy lifestyle? state ur way of promoting ur own healthy lifestyle while studying abroad..
there r indeed 2 points there..
1) meaning of healthy lifestyle
2)way of promoting healthy lifestyle while studying abroad
The interviewer not allow us to jot down our ideas.they just give us 5 minutes to think of our ideas..

So , everyone give the points..bla...bla...bla..(limited 2 minutes to speak)
When it is my turn , there wasnt any point left for me to give, as i am the second last person..so i just change the structure of the sentence but the point is almost the same..pity for me and the last candidate,we werent have much point to elaborate.

Before we left, we say thank you to the 2 interviewer(both malays)..none of us have handshake with them..
tat is all for my interview..Hope u all can gain some tips there.

Hi, I just found this thread..forgotten to bookmark it lol..
In fact, I've just returned from my interview.
Venue: Kuching
Time & Date: 8am, 2nd april
Panel: 1
Group size: 4 gentlemen, 2 chicks hehe..
Course: Medical

First of all, I'd say this interview was pretty short. :huh By this time, everyone here would be well informed about the pre interview (handling the photocopied stuff and such). I'd go right to what was asked then..

My panel consists of 2 gentlemen, Mr Ross and Mr...I din get to know sorry. Kudos to Mr Ross for making the interview such a pleasant one (nice teeth btw *ehem*). We (6 candidates) introduced ourselves and there was no time limit. The first question is if there is one thing you wanna change about your school life; what would it be and why. The next one was your greatest achievement. My interview was about 30 minutes only.

I'd be glad to help if you have any questions. What a huge relieve its now over....Basically I think the interview is to see how you talk and your level of confidence and nothing more. So, to those going for the interview;
-Keep your answers short and concise.
-Smile,..please, the air was so still.
-If you know someone, chat with them beforehand. Helps alot.

P/s I saw some people (Recommers and also those who attended the Program pendedahan) but they didn't bertegur sapa..oh well. Can't blame, nervous bug bites. :laugh

I, kelantan , panel2 about 8am.

Our group
I was the frist.....so i was incredibly nervous......anyway..i forgot to say good morning and immediately started introducing myself....this is bad i guess,.... next when they ask about "Patriotism" i was like...blank..i couldnt utter a darn word...so the other guy cut in and started to talk......this is a bad sign rite?

Anyway my group hadn 5 ppl in it 3 chinese, 2 malay. the malay boy and chinese girl dominated the conversation and i couldnt slip a word in ........Anyway i did talk.....tried to listen but.......didnt talk too much...

In the BM part, they ask "how to promote msia". The malay boy cont on saying putting up posters...bla..bla...bla..i listened to their views and said that pasting posters in other countries is a kind of vandalisme.....was i wrong?

Anyway i tried to ask the interviewer for her email but she ask me to search the jpa web site....so u guys know how.?

Additional: Pustaka negeri is especially coooollldd when you're nervous. Wear something warm! >.<

kluang, 1st April, 10am, panel 2.
my course is veterinary science btw.

for the bm session, we had to discuss about the dewan rakyat, & what we think it is.
later on, the interviewer asked what was the yang dipertuan agong's name, so make sure u take note of it.
in the end, the interviewer just started to talk to us about students who refuse to come back & work in msia && like how we should have knowledge about our country && system everything, etc etc etc.
but yeah, thats basically it. it wasn't too bad.
just try to stay calm & think it through before answering.
good luck && all the best (:
i just hope i secured the scholarship x)

ohya, my friends also got the question asking about yang dipertuan agong's name.
Bear in mind that the 13th and current Yang di-Pertuan Agong is Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, the Sultan of Terengganu.

Hi, welcome to recom. My interview was also in Kuching, but mine was on April fool, 2pm. I was in Panel 2 and Mr Ross .... (sorry for forgetting his full name) was one of my interviewer. He's such a nice guy, keeps joking with us and make the situation very pleasant. Like him very much. I agree with what extell said, smile and do some homework before going. Btw, before I left the interview, I did said thank you and shaked hands with the interviewers. XD

yo~~

haha..juz finish mine

panel 1(8 am)
3rd group that enters(supposed to be 2nd)
putrajaya

i got there at 8 am n have to wait until 11 to enter...
first group got 9 people enter..got to wait for so long..
then the second group..supposed to be 9 people also..
but they said it was crowded..so got split into 2..

I think my panel is the longest waaa..
n the best~
(80 minutes for my group of 6 I think)

the introduction was in bm..
so it's quite alright with me..
but got two chinese in my group..
n they were like wat?!
they cant speak fluently..got mixed up words..
n the interviewer said Saya Tak Faham la?!!
waa..got bashed from the start..
when the introduction was over..
now we have to speak english
the topic was Handphones - Necessity or luxury~
he asked 1 person at a time..
no discussion n no 1 to interrupt~~
when it's my turn..
I was quite relaxed ..
no pressure..
but they used all the points that I got !!
bcoz the interviewer asked me latter~

the conclusion is..
everyone got bashed from the jpa officer
n medical students! beware!!
ur gonna need a lot of luck on ur side..

neway..it was fun for me..realy2 fun ..
My reason for choosing korea was being used by the officer
to tease all my group members ..haha
u know..he was being funny

Why the interviewers like to ''boom'',or bash or whatever towards medical students? Why medical students are the victims when both medicine and engineering courses are hotspots? I applied for medicine course.

I hope i do well just now.... lol

hey there. i was just wondering whether did you include your ambition in your intro? cause i didnt and many of the recomers did. so im quite scared now.

hi all... my interview's 2mr.... Is it wrong to choose the med course? Why do they like to pick on us:huh

maybe because the fact is that they put med courses first rather than engineering courses. I asked my interviewer how many spaces they have for engineering courses. He said the main priority will be given to those med and dentistry courses. So, I guess the JPA interviewers want to choose the best out of the best students to go for med/dentistry courses.

Kluang, 8am, Dentistry

Well, I went early 2 INTAN Kampus 4 da interview around 7.30. To my suprise, there were so many students already gathered there...At first, I had 2 change my order of documents 2 follow da new list dey gave 2 us...I checked 4 my name n I was in Panel 2 n da last name on da list..So, I had 2 wait until 9am 2 enter...There were five of us..2 engineering, 2 biotech n 1 dentist..dats me lol....so we took our sits...b4 entering da room we already got 2 know each other n the courses we were going 2 pursue....The panel ask 2 self-intro ourself in eng...since I was da last..I got 2 learn frm da others mistakes..

Take note:
In your self intro, make it as simple n sweet n dont brag 2 much. One gal gt cut off cz she was talkin bout a book she jst read during da self-intro. Pls say somethin bout ur family...dont tink bout me,myself n I. N remember...never be overconfident!!!!!! A guy gt boomed bcz of dat...

Finally, the questions were revealed 2 us:
"Is mobile phones a necessity or luxury"
For me, the question was like "durian runtuh" cz it was easy n we had 2 voice out our own opinions on the spot.
Then, came the bm section....it was not like a disscussion bt the panel asked
"What is JPA?"n "Wat is our prime minister name n wat is his father's name?"

And.....That's it!!!! Did not feel the time at all.....Overall, I feel dat I did my best and just pray dat I will get it!!!!

Good Luck!!!!!!

i just came back from my interview. very thankful to everyone who'd posted their experience in Recom and it really helped me alot in my interview. im glad that now i can finally share mine *geez*

place: Kluang, Johor
time:2 april, 8am
panel:1

i arrived at 7.30.

we are the first batch to go in. my group consists of 5 people.
4 chinese, 1 malay.
2 girls, 3 guys.
2 biotech ( me), 2 pharmacy, 1 engineering.

im much more relieved when i knew im No.5 in my group, which means that im the last one to intro myself ^_^
there were 2 interviewers, 1 guy 1 girl. as what many previous recommers said, the girl actually din talk at all and just check on our documents and stuffs, while the guy(Mr.Fauzi) do all the talkings.
hes really a nice guy! jokes alot and he didnt really mind our broken english and malay.
my malay was totally terrible and so when i was stucked i just simply changed to english. he accepted too. so anyone here whos gonna take panel 1 in kluang can relax already =D

our intro was in bm. very simple and surprised me. we only did Name penuh, course yg kami pilih, negara yg nak pergi dan number of siblings. after each of us did our intro he asked more detailed ques like "wats ur parents' job?", "where are ur elder siblings studyin? ipta or ipts?" or " are they taking any scholarships" etc. these are for those who have elder siblings.
for me who is anak sulung, he only ask for my parents' monthly income.

i can say that most of my ques are in bm =.= only one of my group discussions is in eng. general knowledge ques and chit-chat stuff are mostly in bm. however, when i couldnt answer in bm, i changed to english. XD

my group discussion ques:
1. banyak palajar yang telah dihantar overseas tidak mahu balik ke malaysia untuk kerja selepas graduate. apa langkah yang boleh JPA ambil untuk tarik mereka balik ke msia. (bm)
2. ways to promote malaysia in foreign countries.(english)

we were given 3 minutes to discuss. my group members didnt jot down any point. we just discuss with each other and share our ideas. and when it comes to presentation, we take turn and present one point each. becoz of this, each of us has our own points and it didnt end up the last person dun hav anything more to say. to me this is better =)

general knowledge ques really killed me. i guess i really messed up this.
1. whats the difference between United Kingdom and England. ( this is for those who applied for UK)
2. there are how many states in Australia. (for those who applied for Aus.)

i was the first one he picked to answer this. i really duno whats the diff between UK n england. so i just said England is translation of english, which now when i think back, its very very funny lo. im surely dead. but my following group members answered pretty well. at least their answers made sense.
as for the Aus ques, my group members just teka. one said 20+ one said 13. i also duno the answer ^^"

then theres two more,
1.whos our Menteri Pertahanan.
2.name anyone of our country menteri.
i was again, picked by him to answer this ques first. is No5 my unlucky number? =(

overall i think my group did a not-bad job. finally we shake their hands and thank them before we leave the room.

altho i cant answer alot of his ques, i think "smile" really helps. haha. as when we smiled, he would smile too and continue with other ques. he will stop booming us with tat ques. haha i duno whether is this a good thing but at least ease me at tat moment.
Smile is really important!
and the atmosphere there wasnt that tensed. was quite relax throughout the interview. the interviewer wont give u tough task if u smile and have eye-contact with him. thats only my opinion. i know i did pretty bad but at least i had a good time. =D

lastly, gud luck to anyone of u whos having ur interviews on the following days!
u all sure can do it well!

That is my topic topic today. I am in panel 2 and the interviewers are very friendly one malay guy and one malay lady. There is 7 candidates in my group. We no need to introduce ourselves as he mention our names and we merely nod. then he gave us the topic and we are asked to discuss about it. He say we can use either english or bm (me english ^^). We gave our opinion one by one according to the number at first. After that, we can express our opinion randomly... the male officer is very friendly and talk a lot about himself^^ so i think those who get panel 2 not to worry ^^

Before I start to tell what happened in my interview, i would like to inform a few things which a few of the person interviewed today did wrong.

(1) To those who lives in a village(kampung), don't get your ketua kampung to certify/sah
the borang pendapatan of your parents.
(2) Several people did not bring along the borang pendapatan. This cause them not to be
allowed to enter the interview.

Well, my interview is in Kuching, Dewan Pustaka. It is at 10 am, but my interview only started at 10.30 am. Once you reach there, make sure that you calm yourself down. Look onto the pasted paper on the wall and sign your name to tell JPA that you are present for the interview. My group consists of 9 people. From what I noticed, if your group consists of odd numbers of participants, it means that you will be having an open discussion. My topic was MALAYSIANS STUDYING ABROAD ARE LIKE AMBASADDORS. EXPLAIN HOW MALAYSIAN STUDENTS CAN HELP PROMOTE MALAYSIA. But of course you will have to do a self-intro first and it is during your self-intro that you will be shoot down by the interviewer if you said something wrong. In my group, obviously, 7 people were shot down and I could only recall a few. Here is what happened :

(I) Interviewer : You want to do engineering in Japan. Why?
Student 1 : Because I know that Japan is a very developed and advance country
and I love to live in a place full with technologies.
Interviewer : How many hours of sleep do you have everyday?
Student 1 : 6 hours.
Interviewer : Don't you know that if you live in Japan, you can only sleep 4 hours a
day, the houses are very small and the life is very hectic?
Student 1 : (Stammering).. I know..
Interviewer : Did you attend any prepatory course like learning any Japanese language
or even watch a Japanese movie?
Student 1 : Err.... No..
Interviewer : Then how are going to send you to Japan if you don't even know any
Japanese language?
(Shot dead)
Student 1 : Actually... My father is the one who told me to pick Japan. It wasn't my
choice anyway.
(Shot dead again)

(II) Interviewer : You like politics?
Student 2 : Yes. Very much.
Interviewer : Who is the first Chief Minister of Sarawak?
Student 2 : Datuk Stephen Kalong.
Interviewer : Oh. Who is the first Governer on Sarawak?
Student 2 : (Forgot what he said but the interviewer said it wasn't)

(This student however did well later on. He was only caught with those questions.)

The rest were also shot bullets after bullets. Me too. I introduced myself and he posed a few questions to me. My self-intro lasted about 5 to 6 minutes as he kept asking me lots of questions. A few tricky ones is as below :

Question 1 : Since you are a president of your school's Dharma Club(Buddhist Society),
what does the word 'Nirvana' means to you?
Answer : For me, Nirvana is a stage whereby someone has obtained enlightenment.
That person has no more attachment left in this life for example attached to
playing computer games etc etc. This person has obtained perfect peace in
his life and is very wise.
(Anyone has some thoughts about this? Do share with me.)

Question 2 : Oh I see. So, what is the politics going on now involving Buddhism?
Answer : I feel, what Dalai Lama is doing has two sides. He is wrong to the
government likings. But if his doings is wrong, then why do people...(Bla bla
bla....)

Question 3 : You said you like football. Even if your team-Man Utd- win, what does it got
to do with you?
Answer : Well, it brightens up my day(Bla bla bla...)

Then after the self-intro, we had a group discussion of 9 people. I think I did well because the people in my group are all introverts and shy. Just make sure that you sieze the chance when you get it. Be natural and cool when you answer. Besides, don't need to use/prepare a RESUME. It won't impress the panels. Just be ready to answer any questions and do be spontaneous to answer all. Don't stammer. Remeber, odd numbers group is most likely to be group discussion while even number groups should be debates. Do get ready to debate if there are 8 or 10 person in your group and at the same time get ready to speak a lot(but not too much) if there are 7 or 9 person in the group. So, good luck in your interview and have a nice day!!!

There is always a misconception among the people who are not Buddhists that nirvana is some kind of heaven to go to, which is not surprising considering the way that they were brought up, with God at the centre of their teachings. Nirvana is a state of the mind which is free from any kind of attachments. With no attachment comes the ultimate freedom.

Anyway, I've digressed from the topic. If you would like to discuss further, you may open a new thread in the social or the debates section of the forum...

I suppose they will have your particulars with them already. As such, it's not necessary to have them look through it again...

well as soon as i got there at 1.30, they called my name...kinda suprised!!!! btw, i just came back. they told me to sit n arrange my certs. then they gave me a number..lucky number 5..i was the last one in the group. at exactly 2pm, they told us to enter the room. the interviewers, both malay ladies, told us to take our seats. there was a piece of paper n a pencil there. then, they said there was 2 sections. first one, introduce urself in malay...second, they will give u a topic to discuss on in english. as i was the last to speak i began thinking wad i was going to say. they specified that they would like to know your latar belakang, course apa u pilih n aso wad will u sumbangkan to the negara once u have studied finish. so after listening to all the other candidates talkin, i began. the jpa ppl were quite friendly n asked us to relax, take deep breaths, n think dat we r her frenz..yeah rite!!! 2nd section then~my topic was "Mobile phone a neccesity or a luxurious item" so then we were asked to form sort of a semi-circle n start discussing with the other candidates..for 10 mins..then we were told to give our own opinion in conclusion. i guess i did ok. there was nothing to be scared of. i kinda miss said a few words cuz i was way toooooooo nervous! but after that, i was glad it was over. better to do the online psychology test first b4 u go.. it might help. my interview lasted for only half an hour... there wee 5 of us in the group. 3 gals, 2 guys. i was the only malay gal.. rest were chinese. well then i hope this would help. gud luck to those of u who r going for the interview!~~~

Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can you tell me the name of the interview venue since USM is like so huge?

me....
panel 1, intan wilayah utara,s.p.,kedah..

i am true blue ipoh mali but due to ns, i had to go to this place for my interview...
my interviewer were a lovely malay lady and a malay encik.
my group has 4 gals inc me, of which two are chinese and two are malays.
when we were seated, the lady ask us to listen to our topic....
"Rising oil prices a threat to the country's economy".......
we were given some time to prepare our points....ermm...jot them down more likely....and soon we started....the first two agreed that it would be a threat to the country whereas i, myself, disagree with them *wht to do, was born a debator..love rebuts...hehe*

but frankly speaking, i think i blew my chances coz i talk too much....but, i had to admit that i don't really know what i was crapping abt.....he actually asked in english during the whole discussion.
later, out of nowhere, he asked, in malay, why did you choose the course....luckily for me, i was not caught off the guard...and, i could see that from his face, he was surprised that i was able to answer him back in fluent malay...wakaka....
the lady was quite a hard one though....basically, she's doing all the shooting...hella....
anyway, she's still pretty...btw, the name is natasha....
and yea...the weird thing was, they didnt bother for us to do some intros whereas those who went to panel 2 were required to do so....pretty weird....

ummmm...i guess that's all....

omg omg someone that truly understands me.Did Natasha give you the LOOK as well? She is really tough......hahaz....I felt so scared of her.Hey u know wat.I talk too much also.haiz haiz. She is preety but she's tough.hahaz.

I'm gonna paste what I've written in my blog since I'm too lazy to rewrite it.. XP

Mine was in Merlimau, Melaka.
10am but we only went in at 11am.
Panel 3.

The introduction was in Malay, and keep it short, really. Don't speak too much unless they ask, and don't add irrelevent stuff too. Cause I did, and the interviewer was like, "Terima kasih atas introduction kamu yang pendek dan ringkas" while looking at me and smirking.. o_O

Afterwards he asked us, "Ko-kurikulum sedikit-sebanyak menjejaskan pelajaran. Setuju atau tidak?" Oohh. I thought it was alright at that time even though I had only like one point. But when the others spoke you would get many other ideas and you can also elaborate on their points or question why they did so. I felt that all of us were fighting to speak during that time though since it was sorta our first discussion and everyone wanted a chance to shine.

It's alright, you'll get your turn to speak so don't go all, "ME ME ME".

Later on, we had another discussion, this time in English. It was, "How can Malaysians living abroad promote Malaysia?" English is my forte, so I was delighted, and I had just asked my mum on her opinions on this particular topic earlier this morning. So that went just great for me with lots of points that I thought of on the spot. Don't worry if you can't think of any, as the other people speak, an idea or two should come naturally.

Oh, and I don't know if I did this right, but I didn't look at the interviewers when I spoke of my points. I looked at the other interviewees and looked at them when they spoke of their points too. I see no point in looking at the men when it's supposed to be sort of a discussion, and it just came naturally to me without realizing I was doing that. Urgh. Hope that it was right.

Anyway, he even asked of Vision 2020 and that was just.. Gah.

The next question was conducted in Malay again. This time he asked in English, or so I think, maybe my mind just translated it automatically for me.. Haha. Anyway, it was, "What do you see yourself doing in 10 years time. What would you contribute to the country?" And I was like, "Damn, how come all Sime Darby questions??" Since it was in Malay, of course I had some problems speaking, and even mixed a few English words inside my Malay but it was alright. I mean, I didn't speak much on this topic, and mostly listened to the others speak and I think we went off topic a little. Or a lot. Haha. I know I did speak of something which is so not '10 Years Later' things. But anyway, the interviewers seemed impressed, and they said, "Well, terima kasih atas perbincangan saudari-saudari yang SANGAT HANGAT dan BERDEBAR-DEBAR." And we all laughed nervously.

Yup, that is all. And he didn't ask any Menteri names so I guess it was alright. Yeay. SO glad I'm done.

Did not feel the time at all.....Overall, I feel dat I did my best and just pray dat I will get it!!!!

this is my 'adventure' today... the JPA scholarships interview >>

Date: 2 april 2008
Time: 8 am
Venue : kompleks wisma belia, indera mahkota, Kuantan

It all began when i opened my eyes from my dream in the room at the hotel.. it was 5.30am in the morning, and i started to prepare for my JPA scholarshp interview..
- tidying up myself, wearing suitable long sleeve shirt and long black slack and a tie.. i also prepared a coat ( to look more formal) for myself to attend the interview..
( remember to put on tidy and formal attire, so that you look smart and can give a good impression to your interviewers)

after having my breakfast, i took all the important documents, and wished all the best b4 i went to the interviewing center in kuantan, the Kompleks Wisma Belia... my father fetch me there..

i reached there at about 7.10 am.. it was considered quiet early because i am the second person to reach there.. the Kompleks Wisma Belia was big,i could hardly find the actual place of the interview. at last, i found it...

after 15 minutes, more and more candidates approach there... we were all gathered at an open-air hall ( second floor of the building)... there was a white board, where our names, sequence, and our interviewing room is stated on it.. there were 2 interviewing rooms.. then, all of us registered at a counter infront of the hall.. as we had to prepare 2 sets of documents, 1 original and 1 certified copies, the certified copies of documents were given to the officer there.. meanwhile, we have to bring the original ones in a clear holder into the interviewing room..

after the officers(2 women) checked my documents, i sat down and wait for my turn to go in.. besides, i also walked around to know about other candidates.. they were extreamly friendly and we started to be talkative in just a few minutes.. this not only gave me the opportunity to know more friends, but also helped me to release my tension.. i started to feel more calm and steady, than i am bfore..

Well i am in the first group consist of 7 candidates..
we are mixed in term of gender, courses applied for, and races..there are 3 boys and 4 girls in my group.. the courses they applied for are engineering, accountancy, pharmacist, biotechnology, and also literature... i applied for engineering and i hope that i can study mechanical engineer in future... after taking our number tag, we cliped it on out clothes and we recieved a small piece of blank paper from the officer..

next, it is the time when all of us walked into the interviewing room..
there were only 2 interviewers, 2 of them were women.. both of them are really friendly because they greeted us good morning and smiled to us.. we, as the interviewees sat in a row of chairs, facing the 2 interviewers.. i didnt feel any nervousness anymore and i thought that the interview will be fun, interesting and relaxing.. this is just because of the kindness of the two interviewers.. one of them talked to us, another 1 checking our original documents..

> important event took place!! INTRODUCTION section ( in BM langguage)... we started to introduced ourself.. we were not given the time limit.. so, as my advice, all of you should speak more..its beter than you speak less.. Untill they asked for the next person to speak, i stopped my intro..^^.. i did prepare for the whole script before this..
introduction is all about yourself and what course are u applied for.. beter prepare a script for youself... it is always beter than you prepare nothing ...
we are all given the chance to speak, one by one..

Next> Q&A session (still in BM langguage)..
the interviewers starts to ask me bound of question... but they are really common questions..
example:* why you want to become a mechanical engineer?
*why study overseas and not malaysia?
*what country you prefer.. why??
*if JPA sends you to another country will you accept??
*if you think english is important and it is an international langguage, do you
think that BM can reach the same status as BI in 30 years?? why??

it was so grateful that i could answer all of these in BM well..

NEXT > Giving Opinion On A TOPIC session in ENGLISH..( at the begining, regarded as Group Discusion, but it is defitenitely just a giving opinion session, i dont even have the time to communicate with my groupmate)
the interviewers gave us a topic to give our own opinion..
it was > HOW TO SHOW YOUR LOVE/PATRIOTISME TO YOUR COUNTRY?
we were given 1 minute to prepare our points, using pens and the blank pice of paper given..
all my groupmates were really "talkative".. we talked a lot...
each of us are allowed to give our opinion with no time limit, but according to our sequence... i was Number 2 in my group, but giving my opinion 2nd counted from behind during this session as the interviewers decided to change to direction of our sequence..
we uses english as a langguage during this session..

After 1 hour and 45 minutes of time spending in the room, v finished our interviewing sessions.. as i expect, it was relaxed, and interesting.. all of us spent our time during the interview without fears... it will be a nice memory for us.. after bidding farewell, all of us went home happily..^^.. it was such a relief for me too..

the whole process of my interview had went smoothly and well...
as for me, i am statisfied of my performance during the interview..
however, it still depends on luck (as i believe) when it all comes untill the end..
so, what can i do is just hope for the best...
whatever the outcome is, it will be the best experince that i had ever gained in my life..

good luck to all of you who are also shortlisted in the interviewing of JPA scholarships.^^

lol... u r a great scouter. :laugh nice to meet u.

hey there. i was just wondering whether did you include your ambition in your intro? cause i didnt and many of the recomers did. so im quite scared now.

at first, i din include my ambition in my intro. When i mentioned my favourite subjects( physics and maths), the panels said "so, u r applying for engineering?" Then, i started to say a little. (which course........ but, i din mention why i choose it, i think i miss out d country also) >.<

hai guys and girls...sorry for the very late reply...i went for the interview today at
2.00pm
merlimau melaka
anyway...ias soon as i came home i fell asleep( so tired -slept oni at 3.00 the previous day) anyway here is the topic that came out for the interview...THE RECENT CASES OF CHILD ABDUCTION SUCH AS THE NURIN JAZLIN CASE HAS INCREASED PUBLIC AWARENESS ON THE LACK OF SECURITY IN THE COUNTRY.DISCUSS. after each of us gave our points they continued to ask about this topic. For example...they asked....NOWADAYS CHILDREN CANNOT GO OUT FREELY BECOZ OF THEIR SAFETY COMPARED TO LAST TIME WHEN CHILDREN CAN GO ALONE OUTSIDE AND SO ON..WHY?
And then they ask... WHY DO THESE ABDUCTORS DO THESE THINGS...THEY DO NOT ASK FOR ANY RANSOM MONEY AND SO ON SO WHAT ARE THEIR MOTIVES IN ABDUCTING THESE CHILDREN.....

So anyway my interview experience is very unique and different from others.....first thing instad of having 6 or 8 people in a group ...there were only 4 of us..... and there were absolutely no discussion...we just gave our points turn buy turn( i was no 1 btw)..oF course first they ask us to introduce ourselves in bm.( name coco , prev schol, jawatan, family background )

The biggest ironic thing is during the whole interview they did not ask us anything about our course...why we chose it and anything related to it...The only thing we discussed was about child abduction...I think my interview went on fine...heck i even greated the panel in german!!!!hahaha then he asked me whether i took any sijil bahasa asing..i said my father taught me .....however i forgot to shake his hand before leaving... Guess was so excited that it was all over!!! Anyway i hope i will only receive good news from now...haiz tommorow got felda and tnb interview HECK!!! So bz Leh!!!!! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE_

hai guys and girls...sorry for the very late reply...i went for the interview today at
2.00pm
merlimau melaka
anyway...ias soon as i came home i fell asleep( so tired -slept oni at 3.00 the previous day) anyway here is the topic that came out for the interview...THE RECENT CASES OF CHILD ABDUCTION SUCH AS THE NURIN JAZLIN CASE HAS INCREASED PUBLIC AWARENESS ON THE LACK OF SECURITY IN THE COUNTRY.DISCUSS. after each of us gave our points they continued to ask about this topic.

Wow , you have the chance to attend to so many interviews ! So envious ~~ I think you took a good move ( greet the panel in german though they might not understand ) to impress them . By the way , do bnm call you up ?

So, good luck in your interview and have a nice day!!!

the sitation (I) is kindda interesting..for those who still haven go for interview, please dun repeat this.good luck!:)

No bnm never call me up lah... i would not mind anyway..i am interested in engineering and not finance or acoounting related courses ..i applied it so that in case they call me i can at least practice my discussion skills...Anyway eah i had to explain to them wat Gooten Aben meant( selamat petang) it went like this..

Interviewer: sila perkenalkan diri
Me: Selamat petang atau "Gooten Aben" iaitu selamat petang dalam bahasa jerman, tuan-tuan.....(bla,bla,bla)

It is not wrong to give a resume but the interviewer from JPA already has all your particulars. The person that passed my interviewer his RESUME just took it but never looked at it at all. He just uses the particulars you had filled in the online application.

why cannot be certify by the penghulu??
wat happen to those who certufy by the penghulu??

I'm not so sure why but if I'm not wrong, it's got to do with 1st-ranking officers are allowed only like pengetua, PK I, PK HEM, Kaunselor and Ketua Panitia.

based on my experience yesterday i wanna give tips and advice for introduction,
if can , prepare your script. memorise .
construct good sentence.
get the ideas what are you going to talk.

for JPA interview, i think, better u really memorize ur achievement in co-co. it really a waste like me dont talk much what i've done..huhu..just bcoz of nervous almost i forgot everything. so i think, be cool is one part the MOST IMPORTANT. like what i said, DONT' FORGET TO CONSOLE UR SELF AND SAY ' I CAN DO IT'.

actually, i've see all the tips in blog, and also forum. but when getting there almost i forgot one thing, to get the believe despite of nervous. i forgot to say the positive2 word to myself. That is a lesson. so, i think, for anyone out there that are going to hv interview, try to cool down ur self with zikrullah and say aloud the positive word and sort of motivation to ur self. I did ask my friend to console me, and ask her to said, i'm the best. She did. I feel more belief i myself as the believe i'm the best hv come into my mind. but that is not enough. I think, u yourself also should console ur self by saying i'm the best. I know i can go through all this, I can do it..and sort of.. Ijust forgot that!! coz everything move fast. although u dont get full preparation, but i think FULL PREPARATION MENTALLY is really a vital.

no matter what u've done or wht u have't done yet, make sure b4 u go in, prepared mentally very well.
that's all my advice.9 Wish u all da best..=)

i've go though interview yesterday!!!

This is my experience ..Hope can give benefit to others..

Well, first part we need to introduce ourself in BM. I not prepair proper la..! So i didnt perform very well this part..huhu..nevermind..still hv chance to perform in discusiion..that's wht i think..

next, 2nd part, u need to speak in English.

oh part ni paling sy suke..coz i've done pretty well.Alhamdulillah.. i really satisfied but just one thing i'm worried. I just worried if i see to dominate the discussion. but i dont think so..coz there were many boys that give many opinion also. but just me the gurl that maybe more talkative than other gurl. That's what i think. I just scared if I was seems like i dont think about other or did't give chance to other. But actually, I've waited for others to finish their point first..then I'll try to get in. Somehow the discussion sounded something like this..

Lost children has raised the awareness of society. Maybe because of the lack of secure. Do you agree? Discuss.

The interview took almost an hour to finish. I think everyone is really great. However, i feel i'm great too in the discussion but the introduction i just lack of few thing..Huhu..really cuak man!!that time..so everything like not proper..although in BM!

I'm the only one that took law. I love the dicussion very much as i've done my part with all my way and i've talked everything what I want to talk. SOme part, I agree and somepart i disagree with some statement. But i do love some part of the discussion..Like when one of the guy named Jason. Talk about foreigner. and few of them not agree totally. as they said it is not totally fault from foreigner as they come here to earn their living. Then I add by saying," yeah u r rite.but then our gvernment should limit the foreigner. Now you see, the foreignet is like a flood in our country. I tell u what, last time i went to klcc by LRT and see so many bangladesh, indonesian..and I said..Is this Malaysia?? so many newcomers..and about the outcomer had been the issue for a while. everyone wanna give opinion and share the experience by themselves.

Other than that, one part is about parent. few of them, blame parent. as this is the parent's fault. don't observe their children. Then i said, the parents can be blamed totally 100%. It is our responsibility, society awareness, the neighbor should also take a look the the child and parents cant see over their children for every second. therefore, i think parent should teach their children and tell them the danger outside and dont talk to stranger all that..and one thing, i think is, parents should prepared their children with taekwando, judo or silat from easily being abduct.

Then after everyone have talk what they want, i'm the one that give opinion and conclude the steps that could be acted. everyone should be responsible. not only parents but also society and neghbor. Education is the most important. This should be instill to the children and also the relegious teach..should be instill so that it can prevent from one to do the bad things like crime and they will do the good2 things..

Well, so many things i love about dicussion coz I knew the topic and the points. I'm really glad! as i said to myself, after i not perform very well in the introduction, i said, i will try to give all-out in the discussion. And Alhamdulillah i did it. I knew overall of this interview, i didnt done the best, but then i've try my best. I said this becoz, if i well-prepared, insyaAllah this thing wont happen as u prepared well. Therefore, I admit this is my own fault. and a lesson for me.Everyone is great. but i also know i am great also ^^. It is really competitive i thing. SO everything i rest to Allah. Let Allah do the rest. but somehow i really relieved as what i pray b4 step in, I ask Allah to give me the topic that I know. dont give me something that i didnt know. so , ALhamdulillah Allah hv give me the topic that i knew.

This is really good lyric maybe can cool down the tense ..try to search for the song i and hear the song. that can make u feel wwant to dance but in the same time, this song i thing can inspire you, at least. To believe in yourself.

They said you wouldn't make is so far uh uh
And ever since they said it, it's been hard
But nevermind the nights you had to cry
Cause you have never let it go inside
You worked real hard
And you know exactly what you want and need
So believe and you can never give up
You can reach your goals
Just talk to your soul and say?

(Chorus:)
I believe I can (I can)
I believe I will (I will)
I believe I know my dreams are real (know my dreams are real)
I believe I'll stand (Oh yea)
I believe I'll dance
I believe I'll grow real soon and (That's why)
That is what I do believe

Your goals are just a thing in your soul uh uh
And you know that your moves will let them show
You keep creating pictures in your mind
So just believe they will come true in time
It will be fine
Leave all of your cares and stress behind
Just let it go
Let the music flow inside
Forget all your pain
And just start to believe

(Chorus:)
I believe I can (I believe I can oh yea)
I believe I will
I believe I know my dreams are real (All of my dreams are real)
I believe I'll stand
I believe I'll dance (I gotta dance)
I believe I'll grow real soon and (ooo)
That is what I do believe
Whoa oa oa YEA?

(Music break)

Nevermind what people say
Hold your head high and turn away
With all our hopes and dreams
I will believe
Even though it seems it's not for me
I won't give up I'll keep it up
Look into the sky
I will achieve all my needs
I will always believe?.OoOo

(Chorus 2x)
I believe I can
I believe I will (I can)
I believe I know my dreams are real (I got strength)
I believe I'll stand
I believe I'll dance (I gotta dance)
I believe I'll grow real soon and (watch me watch me watch me)
That is what I do believe (I do believe in me)

I believe I can
I believe I will (oh yea)
I believe I know my dreams are real
I believe I'll stand
I believe I'll dance (I gotta dance)
I believe I'll grow real soon and
That is what I do believe (I do believe! yayeeyay)

Believe in ur self. Just give a trust once again. Put a hope and dare to dream. but then dont hope very much as maybe you can depressed one day becoz of that. so just give a try and try ur best. :)

i went to ptpl together with afifah and my dad!
We arrive there about 9a.m.
A bit nervous, the place is flooded by students with formal clothes!
i saw some boys wore coat but big percentage not!
For girls, all wore baju kurung!
Then, the clerk there asked to check all the document, then asked me to find a place to sit!
but, i just stand near the door together with afifah, hmm, saying about new friends, i think that's a few, bcs i can see that chinese with chinese, malay with malay, but not all la!
Then, about 10.30a.m, they called my name, i thought i was the first to be interview as on the board, my name was on the first place, but i got number 6! the last one in that group!
Then, we followed the clerk to the room, but after that, we need to wait again, that time was the time that we can self intro, knowing other members strength and weakness!
Hmm, my group consisted by 5 girls and 1 boys, i'm the only chinese in the group, the others are malays!
First, the panel asked us to self intro, just stated our name and former school only!
Then, the forum i think, bcs no discussion amongst us throughout the interview!
Bi question is visit malaysia year 2007
Bm question is sekolah kluster!
i quite nervous, for bi, i be the firsst person to give my opinion, i just say about eye on malaysia and f1 sepang, then others gave their own opinion, then back to my turn, the panel asked about the promotion, others gave their opinion first, i talked about it's not really successful in our own country, but successful to the foreign! last question, asked about way to improve it, then i said asked Malaysians to play their own role, that's all for bi.
While for bm, i let others to give their opinion first, bcs i not quite sure what is cluster school, then i be the 2nd, fortunate i remember about the politics in cluster school, so i elaborate more on that, next question is the distance of academic achievement between students in rural and urban areas, how do i think? i just say about the tc in rural area r new graduate tc, not much expirence, so the academic in that area was not quite good, then last question, ask about the conclusion, i think i just elaborate and took back the point before!
Overall, i just talked for 6 times, 3 sentences per time!
At last, the panel askes us got question to ask them, then i ask when the results come out?
they informed us that is 12 mei! hope for that!
Bye, that's all, good luck!

okiezzzz...just done my interview...
self intro:real name, nick name, programme tht i applied, wat country i wanna go, sibling, previous school (in eng)
title i get:wat's the secret of success?(I get the debate style...haiz...3girls fight with 4 guys)(in english)
quiz i got:last night or today headlines(in BM)

my experience:i arrived there on time but had to wait 2 hours until my turn. the kerani was so nice that he kept joking and chatting with us to neutralize the tense atmosphere....
then, it was my turn (only god knew how nervous am i on that time)
after i enter the cold and dead silent room, i started smiling to the panels....then we started the introduction.....and blablabla...then finished.

after everything ended the panels explained to us wat PILN about........and then we left...

actually the whole process is fun as the panels are SOOOOOOO NICE!!!!!!she kept help those who had difficulties in expressing their thoughts and jokes alot in a not nonsense way...oh man, i really respect them, they are the ideal panels who are needed the most at that tense situation.(not to "pai ma pi" but is real one)

i thought JPA 's interview is kinda strict and harsh...but this is really a different kettle of fish..thanks god....
they let me felt like we were having casual talk though i m nervous....no pressure

thanks to my group members(the sweet girls), we really had a nice discussion b4 debate started, we are helping and defensing each other when the guys "hentam us"..

so, i had done my best and the rest i can only leave it to god....

cheers up, all the recommers who haven't attend the interview...just enjoy it...

hi everyone .........

my interview is on putrajaya,10am, 4 of april.......

may i know how the putrajaya interviewer??

afraid about that..........worry.........

Went to Putrajaya this morning for 8am interview. To those who arent familiar with Putrajaya, do be careful cos after certain stretch, there's no longer any road signages for PICC (Putrajaya International Convention Centre). But view the pic posted somewhere in this thread and will be able to find it.

Anyway, mine was Panel 10... the last panel and room no. 21. Only entered the interview room at 9.30. Interviewers were 2 malay ladies. Intro was in BM. Question in Eng... "What are your proudest achievements in life to this date?" And surprise... surprise.... that was all.. no question was asked abt country of choice, or chosen course. We took turns to reply. However, later we were told to discuss the same topic but everyone kept quiet cos all has been told and no one knew exactly how to discuss "your own proudest achievements" with others. More so everyone has already heard what are the others' achievements. But all went well, excpt for 2 Chinese candidates who cldnt speak fluently and fumbled. Not bng nervous certainly helps. I was only interrupted once during my intro when i was asked whthr i am of mixed race.

Some rooms, candidates were inside for quite long. I dont know ...I supposed it cld be that we're running late i.e. almost time for the 2nd batch to start.. so maybe that's why it was kinda brief and simple. But then again, i think it is your luck sometimes.

A lot of candidates didnt bring along borang pengesahan so there was some last minute rush for them to get someone to certify. And it is true that you will have to rearrange the documents all over again according to a list given. some boys came looking very smartly dressed.. wearing suit but most wore just long sleeve w tie. The funny part is seeing so many chinese girls dressed in baju kurung and most malay girls just wore slacks and long sleeve blouse. There are some with 'power suit' and high heels and one with the branded "Coach" handbag.
All in all it took about two hrs including waiting time. You cant really prepare much in terms of choice of topic but just relax and i believe all the ideas will come naturally. I did prepare how to answer a number of probable topics last few days but come to think of it it is just too difficult to gauge which one will come out.... probably will end up more stressful. Do not be too serious looking when answering questions ... you will find that if you smile you tend to be more relaxed. All the best...

Ivonne

Ok...I went for the interview yesterday...
Um, my experience's quite the same with you guys...Mine's at Putrajaya...8am, I reached there at about 7.30 am and that place's already booming with people...Found my name on the board and signed it...then at the registration place I have to rearrange ALL the documents needed (the registration lady said I HAVE to) so I did (in the end I checked with other students and found that they don't have to arrange according to the sequence on the list given by them, how unsystematic). And since I'm in the second round for that panel I waited while making friends with others..and I think at around 9.30am I went into the room, greeted two officers, and passed them our clear holders...then we were required to introduce ourselves in BM...the medic student was being shooted more questions than others..luckily I didn't pick medic...but one thing is that at some point we were asked to demo stuffs like debating or singing when you mentioned it while introducing yourselves for the cocuriculum activities...then discussion time...our topic was "do u agree on the declination of reading habit among the young ones?"... Simple topic but less points compared to the first round topic which is "mobile phones: necessity or waste?" something like that. The discussion was quite awkward I think, not really *heated* as I expect it to be...well, it's not a debate after all so ok, nevermind...so we came out at 10.40am...but it feels so short...>_<...

Edit: Sorry for not reporting this straight after the interview yesterday..I passed out once I reached home since yesterday I slept at 4.00am till 5.30am...putting certs in clear holder at the last minute >_<...in the end have to rearrange the sequence! The anger of it...

P.S Oh yeah I also noticed a lot of students who wore and use EXPENSIVE-looking SUITS and HANDBAGS and not to mention LATEST MOBILE PHONES. Oh yeah and those HONDA AND TOYOTA CARS. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?? I thought this is a SCHOLARSHIP for THE NEEDY ONES. What is those honda and Chanel bag users doing over there??? If you can spend RM180 to rebond your hair or buy that COACH handbag as mentioned by mamaariesa up there, what in the world are you doing here in the SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW? I'm really disappointed in this sort of selection. This left out really most of the REAL NEEDY ONES whose parents doesn't drive HONDA or TOYOTA cars or any cars at all for that matter. But I really saw students who are modest, wore baju kurung, came here with motorbikes. Sorry for the sort-of-rude post, but those are really my thoughts. If I can afford Coach bags, wear expensive power suits and my parents drive the latest Honda City, I would NOT fight for scholarship opportunities with the real needy ones and relax and enter Taylors. Jeez.

I agree with what Ivonne said.. not only designers' accesories but came in Mercedes one of the latest series... cant recall the model. During intro session, some parents apparently hold executive posts in private company and some even managerial level.

Well, only god knows how the selections are being conducted ...

I agree that perhaps the most crucial point or purpose of the interview is to see how well a candidate can speak ...albeit with confidence, and speak fluently without fumbling etc. Remember to speak clearly .. no point rushing when talking.. as even if one would have said a lot maybe ended up no one could probably understand a word.

yaya..if thats it i don have to worry...

I entered the interview room around 11.45am... the last group of the 10am session
Once we entered, we were clueless of what to do... Then we took our seat...
For the intro session, the interviewer asked us to do according to his format. Name, parents' job, Co-Q achievement and posts, course of choice and country of choice. This format interrupts with what I planned in my mind as I got stuck trying to recall the format...*sigh*

Next up, the discussion session... And the topic is... WHAT DO U THINK IS THE SECRET OF SUCCESS? I was relieved...and confused at the same time. Relieved because the topic is answerable, confused because the topic is too subjective (Come on, how could u possibly be disagreeing on other ppl's opinion on secret of success). As the panel started the discussion, after waiting for 0.5s (no one started to talk) I took the initiative to start off the topic by stating perserverence as the secret. After I finished my sentence all the others interviewee gave out their opinion... It's soooo hard to interrupt back afterward! Luckilly my group was a tolerant one... Eventually no one was dominating the session... After so much of agreeing with others I gave out a lil disagreement and someone started disagreeing me for disagreeing too hehe... alas, we only discussed one topic..

Im not really satisfied with myself because I have not given my best shot but at least it went off fine... Some of my peers in the room got bombarded with the "why not other country? why must u choose this country?" question. I was not asked.. Hehe... I give myself a 6.5 out of 10.

p/s: my panel said that it would be better to wear a blazer as it would give us the best presentable form to the interviewers. Any other opinion from other panel out there?

Interview 2nd April, 10.a.m. at USIM Nilai, Panel 3

Much as I hate to distinguish people according to race, there were 4 indian girls, 1 malay boy and me (chinese girl) in my group. 2 of the indian girls were my schoolmates; and all 4 of them knew each other already. My group only went in at 11.30a.m. And I think the interviewers were too impatient to get to lunch, which is why we didn't have self-introduction at all.

We went straight to the topic - discussion in English - "Malaysian students abroad are ambassadors for the country. Suggest ways to promote Malaysia abroad." No talking among the students was allowed, so we scribbled down points by ourselves.

Then the lady interviewer asked the first person to begin. She said all her points, then the interviewer asked the second person, and so on. I noticed most of my group members read aloud from their paper, as if they'd written every single word down. I just jotted down points, and glanced down once in a while to refresh my memory as I talked (looking at the interviewers). This was in English, so it was kacang for me.

Then the lady interviewer went back to the first person, who, along with the 3 other indian girls, wanted to do medicine. She asked them questions mainly along the lines of "How did you like your hospital visit", "Are you going to continue serving in the public hospitals after the 10 year bond", "What motivates you to become a doctor" etc. They were very particular about serving the country, not staying overseas even with a better job offer. Be patriotic.

Then the interviewer reached the Malay boy, who wanted to do chemical engineering. The other male interviewer asked him what is CE. He replied, everything to do with fluid. They probed a little further about that, asked him what he thought the chances of a job was for a CE in Malaysia, and said "tapi chemical engineering itu ada banyak lagi, bukan petroleum sahaja".

After that it was the 4th and 5th girls' turn, also medicine questions similar to the ones above.

Then my turn. I chose biotech. So they asked me to tell them about biotechnology. I explained a bit about the general meaning, then about red, green, white, blue biotech etc. I STUTTERED QUITE A BIT AS I COULD NOT TRANSLATE SOME SCIENTIFIC TERMS INTO MALAY, BUT WAS ATTEMPTING TO SPEAK IN IT AS MUCH AS I COULD BECAUSE THEY ASKED THE QUESTION IN MALAY. SO DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE. Then they asked about biotech in Malaysia - I told them RM2 billion allocated for it, also about BioValley - "Where?" "Dengkil" "Oh...Dengkil (with different pronounciation)".

Next, they asked me which country I thought is the best in biotech now. I said U.S., cos all the top companies are there. They asked me to name some, so I said Genzyme and Amgen. However, they thought I was making it up and did not look very convinced (I was still stuttering/stammering a bit). Anyway, they asked why I wanted to do biotech etc. Then they asked, in 10 years time, which field of biotech do you think Malaysia can be world-class in (I had my doubts about that but of course tried to be patriotic) - I said agricultural related fields. I had explained earlier that most Asian countries was moving towards the bio-medical field in biotech. So they asked me now, what about biomedic? I said, maybe 10 years is not enough but I am confident that with a little more time Malaysia should be able to become world-class. That was probably the wrong answer.

After that, they asked whether we had any questions. So I asked, when we come back to Malaysia, where exactly in the government would we work? More specifically for biotech? They gave me a 'you-are-dumb' look and named the Ministry of Agriculture, Science, Health etc. However, for anyone not taking medicine, dentistry or pharmacy, you will have to find your own job. After 1 year if you can't, you are free to go.

One more question and then it was over.

Anyway, my hopes of getting it is zero because I think my attempting to speak Malay despite not being very fluent in it made me slightly incomprehensible during the second part. But the interviewers spoke in rojak malay and english. And I noticed the male interviewer frowning and spending a lot of time looking at my clear folder, flipping back and forth. He looked at it the last and the longest.

Be confident, people. Don't be like me.

[FONT="Arial"]So first of all let me introduce myself.I'm a chinese and so please excuse my weird english. I'm from sabah and I'm one of those bookworms, i don't know anything except the school reference book in my room, sad, isn't it??...
I'm not active in co-co but i did join some competition but mostly academic ones like the physics and kimia quiz and the new south wales. :)
So anyway, my interview is in sabah, i'm in panel 1 as there is only one panel lol..
My interview is at 10am. I woke up around 8 am and went out around 9am. My father took me there and it took me for like 15 minutes to realize we're going to the wrong way and so we arrived at the wisma perindustrian around 9:30am.
Then we go inside....Oh and for sabahans, don't forget to go to the second floor of wisma perindustrian to buy the Biasiswa Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Negeri application form for RM1 before you go up for the interview.
Okay so now I look at my surat temuduga, it says tingkat 17 so I went up to tingkat 17 but there is no one there. There is a malay lady sitting there and she told me to go down one floor for the interview.
Then I went down, talk to some friends and found out that my friend in 8am session, which is session one, haven't even entered yet.
So anyway the kerani will tell you to rearrange your files according to the paper and a lot of blank papers will be provided for the interview.
About changing courses.
Okay so you may wonder why in the world would i want to change course so i just tell you the truth because i was soooo ignorant i didn't read the terms and conditions before i apply for jpa and i have no idea about the program pendedahan thing so i didnt attend the program. Anyway the kerani will ask who wants to change course, just raise your hand. :)
And so I did and i raised my hand and like the people in the whole room looked at me as if i?ve got something on my face, and then people whispered something like "change course????" My friend laugh at me and said maybe I was the first in malaysia to change course.. lol
So anyway the kerani will give you a form just fill it up. However i think the changing course is only for medical students because the form is something like this.."Saya telah menyertai program pendedahan kerjaya sebagai seorang doktor dan mendapati saya tidak layak untuk menceburi dalam bidang perubatan. Saya ingin menukar bidang saya kepada bidang______ kerana___________________."
Just fill up the form and write why and give it back to the kerani she?ll/he?ll do the rest.
Okay so now for the interview.
Its just the usual thing introduce yourself bla bla bla and my group disccusion topic was "Mobile phones-necessity or luxury?"
It was quite okay.
Okay so now for reminders, Go to JPA website and see what country do they offer for your course!
There was this girl in my group and during the introduce yourself part, the panel ask her which country does she choose and she said singapore and instantly got attack by the lady interviewer. The interviewer said like "kami JPA tidak offer biasiswa ke singapore. Kamu tidak baca the terms and regulations ke?"
Then the male interviewer ask her why she choose singapore, and then she said because the pay is high and she can work there, then she got attack again , the male interviewer said "jadi kamu tak nak kerja untuk malaysia??"
Becareful what you say!!!!
gook luck to everyone~

back from the interview.mine 1 was at USM,3rd of April,2.00pm,panel 1.The interviewers(two men)were friendly and they didn't really bombard those who applied medicine with a lots of questions(thanks GOD !).first of all, just introduction about each of the eight of us in Malay language. Then we straightaway get our 1st discussion question, that was "what is the best achievement in your life" and the next 1 was "do you think those who gt 10 a1 and above should automatically gt the scholarship?".The interviewers didn't really crack jokes with us,they just kept on asking and listening to whatever we said. For the 2nd discussion question,we had to argue a lil bit with the interviewer(in a polite manner of course). We did the discussion in English. The situation wasn't that tense like what i expected after all.Instead, quite enjoyable.Well,it'll be a pretty good experience for all of us(even though we fail to secure a place in the scholarship afterwards).Oh ya,for those going to USM,better go earlier as it was hard to find the building in such a huge campus.Good luck to all of "us".=)

Hi. My interview was 3rd March (today) 10 am, panel 4(ipoh). It was quite a relaxing interview. But mine is not that fun. The topic given was which is Malaysia's best sport and y. At first i was panic. I'm not into sport. There are 5 people in my group. 4 of them manage to utter something out and i just sat there quietly. Luckily, the interviewer was kind enough to ask me wat's my opinion and i just utter something which cross my mind out. Then, after the discussion was over (it didn't last long though), they kept on shooting questions at us. I was happy they did tat cz i hv more chances to speak out. They asked questions like y do u wan to take xxx course, y do u wan to go to xxx country, wat will u do after coming back to m'sia, wat do u think u will be after 10 years. Lastly, before the interview ended, one of them asked us to say a word that best describe ourselves. The interview was not as bad as i thought. Phew........ I'm glad it's all over. Goodluck for interviewees of 4th april~~ ^-^v

Yes, both of them are quite nice, you can relax :))
It's very cold in the room~~
The interview session is quite easy because it has only two parts, the first one is the introduce youself part(malay) and the second one is the group discussion.(english)
For the introduce youself just tell them your name, age, parents job, parents income, course , what country you want to study and why and also tell them your co-corriculum activities like what club you joined and what position and what competitions you joined
There is no general knowledge such as agong's name or name of prime minister's father being asked :)
Oh and when you go in right, you don't need to knock on the door if you are not the first person to go in, only the first person knocks. We got scolded because all of us knock on the door one by one lol
Oh and its at tingkat 16 not 17

Finally , it's my turn to share my experience .

Time : 3rd April
Venue : Wisma Belia Complex , Kuantan
Panel : 1

I was asked to reach there by 2pm . So , I went early and reached at about 1pm . By the time I reach there , I saw many interviewees had reached there , kinda a surprise to me , because I thought it was still early . All the malay girls wore baju kurung as expected , and all the malay guys tend to dress up formally ( very very ) , with blazer and tie . I saw 2 girls wore PLKN uniform , I thought they just rushed back from their camp because I heard that the PLKN trainees started their holidays today for Cheng Beng .

I browsed through the information that I prepared earlier and waited until it was around 2pm , all of us went upstair to mark our attendance . I was in the second group , so , gotta wait again ( it's all about waiting >.< ) . while waiting , we prattled among each other on what couse we chose , the place of selection , result , interest......and of course also got some threads from the other interviewees . A girl told that most of her friends who had gone through the interview generally thought panel 1 is stricter . I thought , Gosh ! I will have my interview with panel 1 !!!!!! That really made me more panic , I afraid that I'll stammer if she asks something that I don't know at all ! By the way , the woman who received my certificates photocopy joked with my name , asking whether my father is a duck ( my surname sounds like "quack" ) .

Finally , after an-hour- session with 1st group , we were asked to entered with numbered-card hanging on your shirt etc. . All of us looked tensed up and we REALLY WERE !!! The room was quite big , I wondered could the interviewers hear us well . Anyway , we just sat down and the interview started .

We were asked to introduce ourselves in BM , and include our name , family background , co-curiculum , course choosen......in our introduction . The 1st person chose medicine and mentioned his choice of country as Timur tengah . So , the interviewers asked why he chose that place . He stated a lot of reasons and all of them really sounded convincing to me although I won't choose the country if I choose medicine . " Apakah pendapat anda tentang Dr. Sheikh Muzaphor ? " , the interviewer asked him . I was thinking did she mean Dr. SMS because most of the people would mention the name of our very first malaysian astronaut as Dr. Sheikh Muzaphor Shukor . He continued and blah blah blah.... of course , meaning , Dr. SMS . And , suddenly , he stopped .......hanging his sentence without a full stop . The atmosphere turned to a frigid , terrifying silence to me . Luckily , the interviewer said it's ok if he can't think of any . The 2nd girl took took veterinary . The interviewer asked her what's the difference between studying vet in Australia and in Malaysia and why she want to study vet . She told that she loves animal very much . After her pet died , she wanted to become a vet . Maybe she highlighted too much on pet animals , the interviewer said vet is not all about pet animals , there's still something else . Then , she popped up " tiger ? " ( don't know whether is it because I told her family disagree I choose vet because I might have to deal with tiger , cow ....if I choose vet) . The interviewer gave some hints on poultry animals like cow and chicken and she continued .

My turn . I just said what I had prepared earlier and added on some they asked to . They asked me what's my plan upon my completion . I told them I'll work with the government........Then , I'll specialise on orthodontic and dentofacial orthopaedic . The interviewers looked puzzled and asked me what is it . I answered and later they asked more questions , which are not related to the course I chose , unlike the other interviewees . Maybe , they thought I knew about what dentist is dealing about , so they didn't went on this topic . Instead , this is what they asked . " Di manakah Pulau Ketam ? " HUH ?!! What ! Of all the questions , they asked this ? Really unexpected ! I pondered and said Perak . " Pastikah ? " , with sarcasm and skeptism . " Sama ada Perak atau Selangor ....." , she asked me to give a comfirm answer , so I said Selangor . Fortunately , it's Selangor ( I checked !! ) ! She then asked odd question like why is it named as Pulau Ketam ( no idea , so I said I don't know , she then said she also don't know !! Geram betul , she was just trying to trick me ) and what had happened to Pulau Ketam recently ( truely no idea , anybody can tell ??? )

The next person introduction was ok . And , here came the 5th person . He chose chemical engineering and wanted to further study in US . I thought he made quite a good impression because he spoke eloquently with unquestionable statements . The interviewer tried to trick again . She asked where's the factory of Proton . " Shah Alam " . Then , "she said just Shah Alam ?" , again , with her skeptic look . What else she want , most students wouldn't know that , mdm !

Our discussion topic is " Last year was Visit Malaysia Year 2007 . What do you think about it ? Is it successful ? " . We were only given 1 minutes to think about the points . We did our "individual discussion" . Pity the 1st person , 1 minute barely enough to jot down any sturdy , strong point . He hardly told anything , maybe just 4 ot 5 sentences , and he was done . The 2nd girl was better . She spoke about Eye of Malaysia and thought it's a success . I said there's still room for improvement ( is it too vague ? ) and mentioned some efforts made by our government to improve the tourism sector last year like giving away free tickets , Eye of Malaysia , promotion made by the embassy in each country......., World Music Festival ( I couldn't remember well , I said if I'm not mistaken , it was held in Sarawak. Anybody can tell me am I right ? ) . And , I also said although the number of tourists came to Malaysia last year was above the expectant number but compared to Thailand , we were still lag behind because Thailand was still able to draw many tourists despite no such project is launched . Besides , I also mentioned that we should enhance the facilities , cleanliness ....... and a few ways to improve this potentially sector . The interviewer nodded and opened her mouth before I finished my last point , this gesture looked like wanting me to stop , but I continued my last point . Wonder will this deduct my mark ? I am kinda worried now .

The 4th girl continued and also thought it was a great success . The malay guy who took chemical engineering spoke later . Surprisingly , he didn't speak as well as I thought it would be . Probably , he isn't used to speak in english .
All the others interviewees said Visit Malaysia Year 2007 was a success but me . Felt very bad over that , I scared I'll lose my mark because I didn't call it a success . The 4th girl and I shook our hands with the interviewers .

After my interview , I conclude that interview in Kuantan was carried out in such a way that every interviewee wait for their turn to speak and were not allowed to add on or interact when the other was speaking . And , panel 1's interviewers were strict . Anyone who had done their interview in Kuantan can correct me if my conclusion is amiss .

By the way , anybody can tell me why one of the interviewers didn't speak at all ??

1st question is in English: Freedom of expression is one of the main dunno what in perlembagaan malaysia. Do you think we should have limitation on it and WHY?(the question was asked something like this)

2nd question in BM: all got smacked, bashed, because the question seems simple but we just couldn't recall the facts-SURUHANJAYA REID

Then that was what i did in my interview.

My friend's experience too...

same venue and time but different panels. He was in Panel 4(which was reserved for all those PTS scorers).

His introduction was in BM(he said his group many of them were introverts and required the interviewer to guide them, like ask one question, answer one question, if not some of them will just stop there, eg. introduce yourself-then one fella said, my name is XXX.(a big long pause) Get me?

his interview was much more relax and easy.

Question 1 in English: How can you show your love to your country(patriotism)? *Same question asked previously*
then they did have fun, the interviewer asked my friend to sing some patriotik songs.. duh.. so interesting!

The following were some questions relating to general knowledge:
1. How many Wilayah Persekutuan are there in MAlaysia?
2. What was NNS?(easy sejarah question, form 3 standard)
3. List down Rukun Negara..*again is a repeat question*
and so on.......

another thing is, when the interviewer asks whether you worked during the long holidays, do be honest. They might trap you, like ask further about your work.(be safe, say no when you don't have working experience, don't create cocks and bulls story)

my last word, good luck to those who are going to interview tomorrow!! WISH YOU GUYS ALL THE BEST!

hihi...first time here..to share my experience...
phew, what a relief!

Time : 3rd April
Venue : PTPL Kota Bharu, Kelantan
Panel : 1

I went there dressed in a long-sleeved blouse and slacks. But then i changed into baju kurung as the ppl at the counter didn't seem to think my dressing was formal enough O.O My group had 6 ppl-3 girls, one malay one chinese one indian, 3 boys, 2 malays one chinese. 11-something we went inside the room. There were 7 chairs facing the interviewers, a malay man and lady. En.Kamarulzaman asked us to sit according to our numbers. Then as all of us were very quiet, he tried to make us more relaxed by commenting on how depressed we all looked. "Tak pernah dengar tentang Kelab Keceriaan ke?" and after some more silence he asked "how are you feeling now?" Each of us answered in turn. Then he joked some more ^_^ He also asked whether any one of us had been to an interview before. A malay boy, who's studying at Petronas was the only one..

After that he asked us to do our introductions..name, family background, school and chosen course. I was no.1 so i started first-in BM, sinced he asked in BM. I felt weird since i didn't end my intro properly with a thank you...instead just left it in silence >.< No.2 a malay boy spoke in BI and so the rest used BI as well. The interviewer threw in a surprise question for no.3 asking how far was Tanah Merah (his home) from Kota Bharu in km..haha. He didn't smack us but laughed with us.

The next part, he gave us the topic- "Talk about a mistake you made and what you learnt from it" Thank god it wasn't a difficult question >.< He gave us about 5 minutes to think and discuss (but we didn't really discussed anything). During the "think-time" he popped some questions for us while checking the clear holders. He asked me whether i played in basketball, i said yes but not good at it. (The penyertaan written in the sijil was just for show...i don't really know how to play it =P) Then he asked how many players are there in a team. I couldn't think for a sec, then i remembered Slam Dunk and told him 5, hehe~

He asked no.6 to start first, then my turn, then random. I liked the fact that all of them were really earnest in their speech. Me...i started alright but fumbled in the end..really need to practice speaking in english..sigh. After all of us had finished, we were allowed to leave, except one (probably because she didn't attend the Kursus Pendedahan Kerjaya Seorang Doktor).

We left and returned to the counter to give them our no.tags, borang pengesahan pendapatan and checklist (and borang pengesahan kehadiran kursus doktor). I asked them whether i could change my course. They said did you tell the interviewers, the borang is with them. So i rushed back to the room and asked the interviewer. He gave me the form to apply for change of course, it's blue in colour, you have to write the course you want to change to and your reason (there's a lot of space to write that, don't worry). After completing the form hand it back to the interviewer (who was very kind, asked me to consider my decision properly). I do hope that this time my decision will be the correct one..and i will stick to it.

Thank you very much, my neighbour who drove me to the venue when my car got a flat tyre this morning >.<, uncle who lent me the baju kurung, one of the counter ladies who was very kind and Mr.Kamarulzaman, who was very nice to us! Good luck to tomorrow's batch! (Sorry that my writing is kind of boring..)

p/s i was thinking perhaps it was due to our nervousness that he gave us an easier topic....just a hypothesis >_<

I found out that some of you were given time to think or scribble a bit on the paper provided. But i wasn't! After the interviewer finished reading the question, he straightaway asked me to asnwer(difficult question), on the spot.. and i hesitated for awhile while my mind was reconstructing my sentences/points. But being the lucky(or perhaps unlucky) number 1, i did not do well, and i wasn't given the chance to conclude the topic..*interviewers were in a rush*not sure though..

First time here too. :D

My interview was in Merlimau, Malacca on April Fool's day at 8.00a.m.

When I entered, I searched for my name and found that I was assigned to Panel 2. I went to the seats and began to arrange my stuff according to the new arrangement (this is so retarded). I handed in the stuff and took my number. A girl there did not bring a clear holder (ouch..) and had to borrow mine (I brought an extra).

6 of us (me, an indian boy, 3 chinese girls including the girl stated above and a malay girl) were assigned to enter the interview room. There were 2 interviewers. A middle-aged Malay man with a moustache who was rather friendly throughout the interview and a younger Malay man who sported a stern look. The older man was the one who carried out the interview. He called us out one by one. Then, he asked us several questions in which all 6 of us must answer.

1) Why do you want to study overseas even though the quality of universities overseas are on par with the universities in Malaysia (I was like... what the!!! are you kidding!!!)?

All of us answered that we wanted new experience, better technology... blah blah blah...

Then, the younger man lashed out on us saying that we are not original and that we are merely copying each other. My mind was like... "pwned"... I just sported a smile anyway. Seriously, what other answers are there.

2) What are you most proud of in Malaysia?

This time, all of us tried not to repeat each other's answer. I answered that the thing that makes me most proud about Malaysia is that how much we've matured over the past 50 years, how we are able to live together as a nation despite being a multiracial country and on how we are also mature enough to think democratically by not being afraid to exercise our voting rights... (not bad eh? I hope I didn't sounded too opposition, but thats what I feel..) I just REFUSE to mention our beloved Angkasawan...

3) How do you describe a developed country?

I said that a developed country is a country where their people are mentally-developed. I went around, saying that it is pointless if we have all the technology in the world, yet we misuse them. I went on commenting on the importance of morality.

4) What should be used as an indicator to a developed nation?

Well, I had to link with my earlier answer... So, I said that a developed nation is a nation free of crime, low crime rates, etc. A developed nation will also have high level of cleanliness. The interviewer then asked me how to measure cleanliness. So I replied that it could be graded by measuring the API, tourist's impression, landscape, etc... After several others had given their points, I raised my hand again and added that we must also have a unique identity, that we need to develop our culture such as Bahasa Malaysia, etc and compared this to developed countries like Japan who do not forsake their culture, rather they promote them. I also said that it would be great when people abroad can identify some of our products with Malaysia such as Proton, prompting the next question to be:

5) Proton is our locally produced cars. However, efforts by the government to promote Proton have been deemed a burden to the people. In your opinion, should or should not Proton be manufactured?

Wish I could say, shouldn't. But you know whats gonna happen if I did say so... Everyone said it should... I wanted to be different, so I said that we should (only one answer...lol) but argued that extensive research should be done beforehand. Then I mentioned that Proton is very "Japanese" as it is made up of Japanese car engines. So I said that we shouldn't be relying on too much on technology from overseas, but to create technology on our own based on what we learned from overseas. Then I mentioned that the import tax on foreign cars can be reduced by a little to give Proton a stronger competition. I maintained my statement by saying that the competition would be a healthy one for Proton and would encourage Proton strife to improve. The other boy, disagreed with my statement that extensive research should be carried out and said that it would be a waste of funds.

6) We were asked to state where would we like to study, what course and state our results. (This question must be answered in Bahasa Malaysia.)

I just stated that I wanted to study Biotech in Canada as I don't know much about that country, and I am curious about that country and mentioned that many researches are conducted there. The younger guy was shocked ans said "You want to study there because you know nothing about that place?". I just smiled and said yes. Then I stated my SPM results.

After that, the younger man asked the girl who did not bring the clear holder the salary of her parents. She replied RM7000. That guy chided her for putting RM1000 (Ouch... that hurts..) and asked her why did she do that. She was like... stunned and did not know what to answer. Eventually, she just said that she wasn't sure in the beginning and that her friends asked her to put RM1000... Really pity her... Ouch...

The interview was then concluded. We thanked the interviewers and left the room. What a day it was... Took back my clear holder(s), wished each other luck and went out where my mother was waiting, with several other parents. They hounded me with questions on what happened inside. I just said my questions are mainly on development. Said goodbye, got in the car, and drove (first time on a highway) back to Johor Bahru.

Yup... Johor Bahru... I didn't see Kluang when I was filling the form. I thought I saw Klang... Thank goodness I have relatives in Malacca. Otherwise, I will have to wake up 3am in the morning and come all the way up to Malacca.

Place : Putrajaya
Time : 8.00am
Panel : 2

Surprisingly, my interview was not as bad as I thought. I?ll write down the process n all. Haha. I went there at 7.45. kinda late la. Cuz sesat abit. But still can made ti on time. My group im the only one who wore baju kurung, the other girls wore formal and another one wore the lady Punjabi suit.

Firstly, we have to search for our names on the huge board and then sign. Then, I went to room 13 and the clerk wanted me to re-arranged all our certs in the following manner
1. surat panggilan temuduga
2. kad pengenalan calon
3.surat beranak calon
4. surtat beranak ibu bapa
5. sijil kewarganegaraan
6. slip keputusan SPM
7. sijil kokurikulum
8. sijil berhenti sekolah
9. boring kehadiran (doctor)
10. slip gaji
11. boring pengesahan gaji
12. sijil bahasa asing
13. anugerah lain jika ada

Then we were given numbers and then line up according to the numbers and go into the meeting room. My group 4 girls and 3 boys, 2 absents. Eheh. 2 interviewvers. One lady and a man. The person who interviews and does most of the talking is the man. The lady checks the file.

Firstly, the man asked us one by one. For our name, where were we from, which school, and which course, wtc. Yes, for my group, we dun need to introduce ourselves in BM. So glad for that. And the interviewver was really funny. Keep joking with us. Mayb its cuz we told him dat its our first time being interviewed and saw that we were nervous or something. Heeh.

Later on, he took out an envelope and asked us, ?sini ada 1 soalan. Nak soalan senang ke susah??. Eheh. We all wanted easy ques la but then, malu malu abit. Ehhe. Then he was like going through it and then he said ?ada politik. Hmm, remaja macam u all messti tak minat kan. Lepas tu ade biotek. Hmm, tak sesuai. Ahh dah dapat.? Then he read out the question ?children nowadays are spoiled, unruly and indiscipline. Is it true??. He gave us 30sec (I think he gave us more than that). To think about it and then answer it one by one start with no 1 til no 7. my number is 2 so I spoke 2nd. Hehe. But in between, we?re allowed to give opinions also. Hehe. After that, when all of us have finish our turn, he ask is we have anything more to add. Then, when we?re finish, the interviewer looked at the time and said ?hmm..ada masa lagi. Tapi tak pe , give chance pada group lain la k. thank you?.

We shook hands with the interviewer and left. Lolx.

I really have to say that the interviewver was really funny. He keep talking bout his stuff and then he really made us feel comfy. Lolx. I had fun. Everyone came out, all smiles =D

There?s 2 batches for the 8am interview. So after we left, they were all waiting for their turn and kinda nervous. Lolx.

Before the interview when I was busy arranging my certs, I saw my long lost friend. Wah seh. Cant bliv I saw him. I knew he was coming but din noe he will be at the room beside me. Hehe. His interview was really different. The interviewer gave each of them one question to answer. Meaning everyone has a different topic. And then one by one has to answer it.

Man. Dat is super scary la. Lolx. No chance to share ideas edi. Lolx.

after getting tense up for one week...finally is my turn to be interviewed...
well..last night din sleep well..almost *insomnia*..as a result, this morning i feel quite sleepy..
ok..then..go to INTAN at kluang...erm,the environment there quite nice...
ok...saw my frenz..
then,chit chat for a while..

later,go upstairs..rearrange the cert..
i got panel 3..go there and wait lor..weather outside is getting hotter..started to sweat...
wait....chat...wait...until the kerani call me..i got num 5 and panel 3..
then,go inside and sit..the 2 interviewers (1 guy and 1 lady) both are ok..not fierce at all and quite friendly..(the malay guy looks familliar to me..)

my group consists of 7 ppl,6 male(4 chinese and 2 malay, most of them apply engineering, only 1 malay from sek men sains apply for medic) and only 1 female(that's me lar!! special~)

then,the interview starts...
first thing we did was...SINGING!!! we sang Keranamu Malaysia...first stanza only..
vry surprise that we were asked to sing and we haven introduce ourself..haha..
we sing lar,a bit out of tune..but at least the lyrics and the melody still ok lar..
then got 1 guy, wearing NS baju kelas was asked to sing lagu khidmat negara..haha.
then he ask anyone else went for plkn before, and i told him i had..(but din ask me to sing wor..)

then, start the intro part..name,tempat berasal, ur family background, koko things, hobby and course..and some they ask wat country of our preference..he ask me,then i ans, the countries mentioned in the panduan are ok for me..then,he say,giv u to Timur Leste oso can lar..den i replied..the panduan did not mentioned Timur Leste..then,both of them laughed...

then is the group discussion part..our topic is "Children nowadays are spoiled, no discipline...is it true? discuss." and..he ask us straightaway start the discussion,no time to prepare at all..
ok lor..then we start..erm,most of us giv points like writing essay lar..(vry *fake*)..the sek men keb sains boy starts first..then we all continue lar..bla bla bla..after sometime, the interview point the num 1 guy,ask him to make a conclusion..

next, the pengetahuan am session...he just simply ask lar..

and ask who is the ketua for JPA? some menteri's name(higher education)..
and he oso ask a guy who mentioned he wanna go UK for engineering bout Prime minister of UK..
and some ques like, the students goin overseas, are exposed to all kinds of pengaruh..
how do u think bout this?this ques he ask another malay guy,and the malay guy ans, sounds like almost all "pengaruh luar negara" are negative things..he ans as if malaysia is the BEST of the whole world..then after all the bad things bout foreign country, the interviewers pointed to me, going overseas only got negative pengaruh, what do u think? then my ans, ok,memang ada sedikit pengaruh yang negative, but their technology are always advance than us..those engineering student can learn their tech and bring back to msia..those medic student can learn to use some modern machine or robot to help in surgery...all this benefits malaysia...only thing is students themselves muz harga diri..bla bla bla..

then,i remember a question that he ask me..."ok,Chua Soi Lek tak dapat calan pada pilihanraya ini, dengan syarat yang dimiliki oleh Dr Chua, memang Dr Chua seorang yang sesuai sebagai calon utk Menteri Kesihatan..so,wat's ur opinion?"
ok..frankly, i was quite surprise coz he ask such ques..it is quite a sensituve issue,u know, regarding politics..but i still hav to ans..so i tell him, as a minister,he is representing msia..sometime, he has to represent msia and visit to other country..his scandal news affect his image and also affect msia image..and most of the malaysian ppl oso dun wan a leader with low moral..as a leader, muz show a positive image to everyone..moral is important la..bla bla bla..

after Dr Chua ques..another question he ask the smk sains student...wat's his opinion bout our gov and the recent pihanraya result..wah, i was really surprised by now!! such political ques oso can be asked..the smk sains boy say,ok..our gov now is becuming lemah..even umno oso kucar kacir..bla bla bla...

then,he ask bout the coins..wat's the picture behind the coin..
later,he told us,bout some statistics lar..like,how many application, how many wan shortlisted for interveiw..how many will be chosen...and dun giv up...bla bla bla..

then..FINISH!!

p/s..thx a lot to all recommers..all posts really helps!!
