Introducing Scholarship Holders Infobase (http://www.recom.org/forum/portal.php?pageid=scholarships).

We are aware that List of All Scholarship Holders thread is a very useful thread for visitors and members who want to get informations regarding specific scholarships from holders, yet we are also aware it is hard to browse and the search forum function does not help much in getting to the right scholarship holder to contact. Thus, we made a special section containing easy-to-browse scholarship holders' contact informations:

Scholarship Holders Infobase (http://www.recom.org/forum/portal.php?pageid=scholarships)

Kudos to Luke the ReCom code wizard for his effort in creating this database. He created the whole architecture (i.e. the codes) from scratch.

Nice. Very nice. Good job here.

If I can't find my info. How do I add to it?

Wow. This info site would be most valuable!

Btw there is a small bug. I can't see the word on the buttons in the lower portion of the update info page. I can see the button (one long one two short ones) but not the words.

Fixed. Some variables were missing from the vocabulary list. Thanks for reporting.

I would suggest that IB programmes also be listed as Pre-U, as it is bound to confuse people when A Levels is listed as Pre-U and IB is listed as Diploma.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Baccalaureate
http://www.ibo.org/

Both reputable sites state that IB is a diploma programme.

I can't find much info if A-Level is a diploma or not but Wikipedia article suggests it's a pre-university. But then, the term "pre-university" itself has various interpretations in different countries.

Just because the name has the word Diploma in it doesn't mean that it fits into the category of what Malaysians usually consider as a diploma programme.

If we're speaking in the Malaysian context here, the IB diploma does not grant you specific knowledge in a certain area like the other diploma courses that are offered in Malaysia. The curriculum and topics that are covered are more like pre-U programs. The IB is viewed to be of similar stature to STPM and A Levels around the world. Based on how it is accepted throughout the world, and how the term diploma is used in Malaysia, I would suggest that the IB be classified as a Pre-U Program.

So following your logic, since Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia has the word certificate in it, it would be classified as a Certificate Program and not a Pre-U program?

Supporting references please? Any malaysian government websites or paper documents that state IB is a Pre-U?

And STPM is a Pre-U programme? Don't tell me SPM is a Pre-U too ...

Eerm Luke, I guess we should not be too tied up in the pedantic aspect of the terms we use here. Although IB may not be a pre-U in the strictest sense, in the context of Malaysia, most people treat it as some sort of pre-U i.e. the credential they use to apply for universities. The same goes for STPM.

If we list IB under diploma by adhering to the strict definition but people end up not finding them (due to the usual assumption of IB = pre-U), then no one will benefit from it.

Fine. You can modify all the IB entries if you want. The addon does not restrict IB to be Diploma type. Field/Major and Education Level are two unlinked attributes in there so one can even add an entry with PhD in A-Level there. Yeah it sounds so much freedom but that's why I added the moderation section.

Update 12/10/2008:

You can now set so that your full name and contact info are hidden from unregistered visitors. Meaning only registered members can view those details. This is a small yet valuable feature especially with online privacy anxiety era we are living in ... :nod

So to those members whose scholarship information is listed in there, please make use of this feature. Also, to those scholars who were reluctant to post your contact info for the fear of giving up your privacy, maybe you would ease up if only registered members can view your email addresses :wink

To refresh, the URL is http://www.recom.org/forum/scholarships.php ... or click the 'Scholars' icon under ReCom banner ... if your scholarship info is in there you will see "View your entries" in the right-hand side menu .. click it, and then on the page where your information is displayed, click 'Update' .. there should be setting row for "Options" near the bottom of the edit form. Tick either or both options and then save. Temporarily log out to see what unregistered visitors would see.

Two more features:
New contact info "Website"
Random entry (not sure how it will be useful to anyone but added anyway)

For those who contacted the scholars to rate them helpful or not. The rate buttons are located in the card view mode (click on the scholar names).

Like, for people who have this "scholar's name card", can it be toggled such that this name card will appear with the public profile when someone clicks on these people's names (when the names appear elsewhere on the forum)?

Hi people... can you all please add ur spm results in your scholarship holder database...tq
I don't really see the relevance of SPM results for a database of people who have already gotten their scholarships.

Click 'Index' located on the top left of the website on the dark blue bar. Then, choose any sub-forum you wish to place your new thread in and go there. You will then see the New Thread icon located on the top left of the website; below 'Index' and above 'Threads in Forum'.
