I've always thought economics is related to mathematics and business. Boy, I was wrong. It's actually a Science subject . . . WIth lots of hypothesis and theories going about

Economics are quite hypothetical. You start with some hypothesis and some assumptions and you study the behavior.

Chen Chow quite right.

Here's a famous joke on economists - made by a prominent economist of whom i've forgotten his name.

A physicist, a chemist and an economist are stranded on an island, with nothing to eat. A can of soup washes ashore.

The physicist says, "Lets smash the can open with a rock."

The chemist says, "Lets build a fire and heat the can first."

The economist says, "Lets assume that we have a can-opener..."

my favorite part of econ has always been macroeconomics, in particular monetary policy. you could really do a lot good (and bad of course) with monetary policy.

if you want to do econ, one advice. Always take up a course in econometrics. don't avoid statistics course.

Sorry, I'm a little slow here. What does this joke mean?

Well, my lecturer once told us a joke about economist:

The economist always says that the best time to get the best price for an item is yesterday . . .

economics is similar to actuarial science.

economics is similar to actuarial science.

no it is not. acturial is more similar to statistics. economics on the other hand, uses statistics but it is not about statistics.

i think, to have a degree in acturial, you dont even have to know the basic supply and demand model.

Randomphantoms, I think the prospects of economics are pretty good, as long as you can apply what you have learned. The newly-appointed CEO of Khazanah got his Master Degree in Economics over at Cambridge.
