I was just looking at my yahoomail bulk folder and realized that spam can actually be entertaining, sometimes. i thought it would be fun to start a thread where we can post impressive email scams for all of us to marvel at. i named this thread "Best of Nigerian Scams" because most of these emails claim to originate from Nigeria (in fact, google 'Nigerian scams' and you will find that we're in pretty good company here).

feel free to post any fraudulent email you like, not just those from Nigeria. scams from other 'countries' or 'banks', anything, are more than welcome. here, i'll start with one from Sierra Leone.

Goodday,
I know this letter will come to you as a surprise; but this letter is
borne out
of my desire to establish a mutual business relationship with
you,please keep it confidential!.

I am Mr Aliyu Ahmed the son of Dr Ibrahim Ahmed the former deputy
finance minister under the ousted civilian government in Sierra Leone.
My father was killed and mutilated by the military junta led by Major
Paul Koroma after over throwing the elected government of President
Tejan Kabba.

Though, I do not know to what extent you are familiar with events
disturbances in Sierra leone, but the, pressure of war drove me and my
mother
out of Sierra Leone into exile in South Africa.Where we have been
living under political asylum for three years.

Sadly, my mother died of cancer three [3] months ago and was buried
here in South Africa. Prior to her death, she handed over to me a
certificate meant for a secret deposit which my father made in a
security/finance company in South Africa.

This deposit is worth [US $ 10.000.000.00] ten Million United States
Dollars only. And this money is in cash.

My father made this deposit in the heat of the conflict then in my
country, with the hope to convert it[money] to his personal use at the
end
of the war, unfortunately he was killed when the conflict intensified
as result of his opposition to the rebel forces.

After my mother's funeral, I contacted the security company to confirm
this deposit and establish ownership as well made an arrangement for
this deposit to be moved through diplomatic channel to United
Arab Emirates Presently, this sum of U.S$10,000,000.00 (ten million
dollars) is
currently being deposited in a security vault in Dubai. I am seeking
for your honest and sincere participation in the retrievement and
reinvestment of this
money.
I cannot do it alone due to my complete ignorance of the business
world, more over I am only 27 years old I will give you a negotiable
percentage of the principal sum in deposit if you assist me to retrieve
and
reinvest this money in any profitable area of business in your country.

Please, I need your assistance urgently, because the more this
consignment is still with the company, the more the demurrage
accumulates.
Contact me through the same email address.
God Bless You,
Thanks yours
Aliyu Ahmed.jnr.

well, i think they got our email address by using some kind of generator. because i used to get an email like that with a list of recipients (they were dumb enough to send it to multiple recipients at once). and the email addresses in the list looked similar to mine.

now, my email address has an "_", which i think their generator can't generate. so, maybe using an _ helps, maybe numbers will do too.

one thing i hate about these people is that they use God's name to get our sympathy. **** them, using God's name to commit crime.

here's one fresh from the scam spammerator.
FROM: Dr. SANTOS IKECHUKWU,
AUDITING AND ACCOUNTING UNIT
ECO BANK PLC OF NIGERIA.

I am Dr. Santos Ikechukwu, the director in charge of auditing and
accounting section of ECO BANK PLC LAGOS NIGERIA BRANCH. With due
respect and regard, I have decided to contact you on a business transaction
that will be very beneficial to both of us.

During our investigation and auditing in this bank, my department came
across a very huge sum of money belonging to a deceased person who died
on October 31st 1997 in a auto crash and the fund has been
dormant in his account with this Bank since 1996 without any claim of
the fund in our custody either from his family or relation.

A close investigation revealed that the deceased has no existing
relation as next of kin. The said amount is U.S $12.5 million, I want
you to collaborate with me to put a claim on this money as the next of
kin of the deceased account holder,Mr Duckson Fritz.I and my colleague
will present you as the next of kin.

Meanwhile all arrangement to put claim over this fund as the bonafide
next of kin to the deceased, get the required approval and transfer this
money to your designated foreign bank account has been put in
place and directives and needed information will be relayed to you as
soon as you indicate your interest and willingness to assist us in this
risk free and highly confidential transaction.

On your reply, we shall discuss the sharing ratio for each party to this
transaction.

Please feel free to contact me immediately via email
for further directive and clarification on this transaction.

I look forward to a mutual beneficial business relationship with you.

Best wishes,

Dr. Santos Ikechukwu.

Do you guys get forwarded mails from your friends that either say that X has tumor/cancer/life threatening and Bill Gates or AOL has promised to donate 5 cents for every forwarded mail... biggest chunk of crap around... kinda twisted to make use of ppl's sympathy to spread junk...

Others include, if you forward this to 10ppl, you'll get a free handphone, etc and people actually believe this crap! Oh well...

The worse would be chain letters saying that you'll meet with a terrible accident or terrible love life, etc if you don't spread the "love".... ah the irony
