For legal ebooks, the most popular sources are the project gutenberg and google books.

For guternberg, there is plenty free source of ebooks.
However for googlebooks, it is not free. The most you can do is to preview the book.
any1 who knows the source of e-books but doubt a bt the piracy thingy,can u plz kindly pm me?thanks yea!

There are plenty of torrents to be found.
Erm.....
Well, some of them are legal. I think.
If you include audiobooks in your definition of ebook you might want to try out http://www.podiobooks.com/ They've got an extensive catalogue of free audiobooks you can download and listen to. It's how I discovered Scott Sigler (definitely check him out if you love either scifi or horror).
