Logically, the whole Ivy league thing is for anyone (tidak melebihi 20 tahun umur pada 31 Disember 2008) Which means you can apply for this given that you have completed your own foundation..and have already secured the seat in respective university you had applied as long as those uni are in JPA list. JPA would only do the funding...I hope i helped you with this...Wahaha

U do ur own foundation, u get good result, u are accepted into the uni listed, JPA would consider u.

Top unis are in the list. e.g. harvard, cambridge, ox, LSE and more.

this is pidn... program ijazah dalam negara.. the overseas program is the piln.. just apply it.. and you will get full sponsorship.. If you are 'future doctor, pharmacist, or any critical jobs', you have to work with the government for several years. If not, just a free gift from the gov to the outstanding students.

The PIDN is only for 2007 spm leavers who obtained 9A's and above and already being offered in the matrikulasi, asasi universiti or form 6 ONLY.

if you go through Alevel or similar...when you get a place in those Universities,yups,if and only if,the policy goes on,you will get sponsor.

yups of course,from the statement,those stpm 2007,qualify for 1st degree in those 4 campus. are eligible.

please refrain from asking whether which Unis/Cols are Ivies or not.. it is stated clearly in the promo PDF file. download and read it. or else,search through recom. if recommers keep on asking,this might make the seniors here unhappy. hehehe.

Well they did say Ivy league dan setara..which MEANS MIT is include as MIT is setara with Ivy leagues. Erm, actually i am kinda worried if this whole thing is a trick. Yeah. You need to have an offer first. It's mostly for those who sat for their SPM in 2005 or 2006, as they'd either are in the midst of their foundation/pre-u, or have already finished their pre-u.

With that said. Has anyone tried to apply for the Ivy League thing? It refuses to send my application! Stupid message about "Maklumat tidak dapat disimpan", and calling the technical help line is of no use because it's a freakin' Sunday. >=(

i was really hoping recom would have the answers to all the enqueries and yes there are people kind enough to 'enlighten' us who either cant bother to take the 5 minutes to read this http://esila.jpa.gov.my/pdf/iklanspm9a.pdf or simply zonked out of anything else except appeal results..likewise the response to these new announcements are fairly lukewarm..was expecting smth like a site-jam again some sort but ya 2k are worrying bout filling forms, taking medical checkups and packing bags while others are busy elsewhere settling in and stuff..hmmm

sorry for my useless ramblings..just kinda wistful and pondering about life's many twist and our predictable pattern of dealing with them..hmm i'd say this scholarship will be good for those of us who need the money and willing to stay back here to serve the country..others with guts(& strings) to defy the bond can try also..

note that there is no specific amount of scholarship in terms of cash or benefits stated for those of us in form6 and matrix cuz those are essentially free except the latter which would incur more in terms of living expenses and transport..so im thinking a monthly or annual stipend of sorts to cover all of those expenses plus books and stationeries..preferrably in the form of cash in advance and does not involve pay first, cut later from bank or sorts..

okie..lets wait and see if anyone finished their application successfully..hopefully they'd give us further insight into this last-ditch effort by jpa to please everyone sidelined by the controversial quotas enacted by our famously malaysian government..

It doesn't matter what pre-u you do. They don't really care if you did Form Six, A levels, SAM or ICPU. If you manage to get an offer from one of those universities, you're eligible to apply.

few options here.
1) apply to those Ivies or similar college,then jpa will sponsor you
2) get yourself into those 4 Campus as stated ( Monash,Nottingham,swinburne or curtin ),then jpa will sponsor you.
3) apply jpa oversea loan scheme,the latest option.

these only applicable when you excel in your a-level. =)

Erm well i just called the JPA at this number 03-8885 3049. A woman answered my call, apparently she was not a pegawai ( i found out towards the end of the convo!)...So the following were my questions:-

1) Who gets to apply for the Tajaan but non Ivy League aka IPTA?
2) Can you apply for the Ivy league one regardless of what pre-U u do?
3) Lets say I am doing STPM now, and I applied for the local university one, in what ways would JPA lessen my financial 'burden'? (Allowance etc)
4) I gave her a situation: Lets say I plan to do medicine, I asked her to briefly explain to me the course of events that will take place while JPA sponsors me
5) I asked her then will the appeal results be out

The following are the answers I got from the person i spoke to:-
1) She said for the 9As SPM 2007 thingy, we can only apply if we are doing STPM, Matriks, or IPTA. NO private foundation can be used to apply for the 9As programme!

2) She said yes at first. Then later she said if you do STPM you can't get into Ivy Leagues..at this point i started to doubt if she is knowledgeable in this matter because for Ivy Leagues all you need is SAT exams regardless of which pre-U. But then she stressed that you have to have the minimum cutting point results as shown in the iklan.

3) She said we will get allowance to do stpm. How much she doesn't know!

4) She was totally unable to answer this question. She gave me numbers to contact 2 pegawai who are actually in charge of this programme. I tried calling that numbers but i was unable to reach them!

5) Aha..when i asked this question, she connected me to the PILN department. Then another woman answered, so i asked her and then i heard background voices discussing about the date and she finally told me its coming out middle of june!!!

Well i spoke with the first lady for about 10 minutes and she was totally not helpful...it fails the whole point of having an inquiry hotline!...Sigh..it saddens me the fact that all they do is give us more numbers to contact and just make my phone bill go up but end up with no explanation!...If you guys want the number of those pegawai here it is:-

there was once a doctorjob counsellor coming 2 my school 2 brief in further study. She said that STPM is not accepted in USA, so it cant get into Ivy gua.

I think that people doing A-level who can get into Ivy will be sponsored.

But,

1. Is it guaranteed that people who get into Ivy will be sponsor, if they meet the basic requirements? Do they need to go through interview?

the only ACADEMIC requirement to enter an ivy is that u sit for the SAT exams.it doesnt really matter if you sit for STPM or a levels..so yes if you are doing STPM you can apply to ivy league uni's PROVIDED you meet their primary requirements (SATs)


and for UK u can apply using STPM results.But if you do matrikulasi,its not accepted.Probably matrikulasi will qualify you for Ireland but NOT UK.Because the UK unis know matriks is of lower standard compared to the STPM and a levels,IB

1) Is that means the scholarship covered from the time he start lower six UNTIL he gets the first degree? The first degree must be done in LOCAL IPTA or IPTS right?

2) How if he only intends to study until he gets his STPM result and have no plans to get a degree? In this case, how long would be the bonding period? Based on the iklan, there should be no bonding period right as he didn't pursue a degree?

Dude i asked the lady all this questions and she freaking can't answer them! She gave me another set of numbers which i tried but no one answered. You can try the number, its on my post in page 6 i think...1 thing i am sure of is JPA hanya membuat tajaan which means they don't help you to get a place for you in university!!!Wahaha

hmm. maybe they shall conduct a seminar and explaine to the public how this policy works. yups,they sponsor only,you guys might gonna applies those Ivies or similars on your own. same goes to the loan scheme.

fill in the school or college u currently studying...

for example, u are taking f6 now... then u fill in ur school name... after f6 then only u apply for the foreign branch u...
if u are studying in foreign branch U then just fill in the U name...
if u are studying diploma in local U then just fill in the U name...

Please go and read the iklan in detail including all the syarat-syarat...because there they have clearly stated that for A-level students you need to have a place in those listed universities in order to be eligible to apply!!! THIS means it is for all those SPM before 2007 given the candidate is not above 20 in age now!!! Wahaha..

Dude i agree with you. No matter what we have, it always seems that there is something else needed! Btw did you people notice that JPA never actually give out any sorta allocation for this PIDN!!! Which means all they got to do is approve 1 person and reject the rest, technically they kept to their word!!! &&& yeah all they do is blindly sponsor you to study locally! I think that only few people can't afford local university such as the odd job workers and so on, which in the first place should be given PILN!!! and for medic there is a 10 years bond!!! this is local uni..bear in mind! Its stated in the iklan. They just give allowances and will never help you secure places for critical courses! As for your opinion, yeah i agree, most of the seats will be filled up by matriks students so much so the stpm students with 4As end up with stupid unrelated, suicidal courses like perhutanan and penyelidikan serat kayu!!! As far as i know, the only school name you fill up in the form is your pursued school!!! Not the current one because u already have a letterhead and either way the office staffs will reprint your form and give the pengetua to sign so any mistakes they can refer back to u..faham? Wahaha

the result of school transferring wont come out so fast... the counsellor at my school said based on previous year case, at least one month is needed... i'm not sure whether your state is same as mine or not... but i think is almost the same...

Dear Lian Lo,

1. There is no interview for this schorlarship.
2. You will receive monthly allowance.
3. You need to sign the agreement with us but there is no bonding for Form 6 and Matriculation. You will need to sign another agreement and conract if you got the palcement to further your study in IPTA once you complete your STPM or Matriculation.
4. If you fail to get the further your study, there is no penalty impose.
5. We will not sponsor student to further their study to oversea. We will only sponsor students under this programme that continue their first degree locally.

What "Ivy League" standard universities are you talking about? The term "Ivy League" is usually used for certain universities in the United States, and they've listed eight of such US universities. Unless you are talking about UK universities which belong in a tier slightly below the five. In that case I doubt the non-listed universities will be accepted...

And to answer your last question, if the course you wanna do isn't on the list, the safest way would be to call them up and check with them. I wish you the best of luck.

Personally I think that it is not fair for not granting this sponsorship to those who are under the Foundation Year in private universities. Because this sponsorship is to retain talents that can excel academically to work locally. I do have friends studying in Foundation courses in private U, and I think they also studied very hard to get the best offer they can. It makes no sense if the government only sponsors those who are studying the Degree course but not the Foundation course of Private U. What do you all think?? Please correct me if I get wrong.

i dont think so... we need our pre-u result to apply for degree... so, for now, we only need to submit out pre-u offer letter... plus, there'll be another contract to signed after pre-u... but then if u are applying for the scholarship for ivy league (or something similar... i dont know what's the title of the scholarship... sorry...), yes, u need to get the offer letter from the university... however, that scholarship is for post pre-u students...

What "Ivy League" standard universities are you talking about? The term "Ivy League" is usually used for certain universities in the United States, and they've listed eight of such US universities. Unless you are talking about UK universities which belong in a tier slightly below the five. In that case I doubt the non-listed universities will be accepted...

And to answer your last question, if the course you wanna do isn't on the list, the safest way would be to call them up and check with them. I wish you the best of luck.

Actually, the same thing happened to me:P. But I tried for several times, maybe around 5 times or so and finally got through. They did reply. Besides email, you could try calling them up. That would get straight to the problem but you'll have to be patient in waiting for someone to pick up your call.

wow that's some school you have..nobody but me knows about it in mine..haha..my principal just retired so i have no one to go to except maybe pk1..haha regardless of requirement or not..i think its still best and safe to do both..send the Pengesahan Penerimaan online AND the Surat Pengesahan by post (note on main page, the blinking red lines stated that calon 9A MUST download the Surat Pengesahan..if we're just going to download and keep it or even print it out and fill it in and keep it..it'd defeat the purpose of them pointing it out with extra emphasis right? best to send by post i think

one is Pengesahan Penerimaan which is done online

the other is Surat Pengesahan which is a downloadable .pdf document which clearly states that it is to be sent back to JPA asap..

yup the online is sure while the other isnt..but it aint cause no harm wasting around RM8 to pos laju 3 pieces of paper to them just as an insurance that you'd done your best to ensure that you did everything that you were told to and wont face the disappointment of having your scholarship revoked due to a minor thing you missed out..=)

but ya i'd just advise you guys ya..its of course still up to you whether to sit and wait or do something about it

about the date of submission im not sure but its still better to be on time if its by all means possible

as for adobe i recommend that you download it from its original website (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html) or try another link (http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/)

if you so happen to not be able to download them then i'd converted the pdf to other formats such as .mdi (open by Microsoft Office Document Imaging File) and .tif (open by Nero PhotoSnap Viewer) sorry cant seem to convert to normal .jpeg or .bmp

Hey guys,

I've spoken to one of the JPA officers today. They told me that if you're being offered the ivy league dan setara scholarship, you should send in the unconditional offer letter ASAP and you should also accept your offer online as required.

If you fall under the 9A candidates (calon 9A, the one with tingkatan 6, matrikulasi, etc), you should accept your offer online and are required to send in your surat pengesahan (plus other required documents if stated so) to JPA ASAP. Do call them up as I'm not so sure about this (9A candidates) category.


They said the reason why they ask you to reply and send in the documents ASAP is that in the event you reject your offer, others who are in the waiting list will be taking up your place.

I think what you should do is to call them up and ask what should be done so as not to loose the offer.

i've spent quite a few years in the uk and i'll be applying through UCAS this year.Well...i dont have any other countries in my mind but..i've just travelled quite a bit..and i just feel everything in Uk is a little dogmatic..and other european countries have sort of outclassed the Uk by a huge margin now..and this applies to everything including healthcare and education.

Policy changes every year,if we look back from the history....

firstly, you are not a loser given the results you obtained and it is a sad reality that our country does not recognise that..do continue to improve yourself and go elsewhere where your talents would be more appreciated.

considering that you had done everyth required and applied for the form6 scholarship..then i would say there's a good chance that your school is not a bantuan kerajaan penuh..normal SMK are NOT bantuan kerajaan penuh..there is a fine grey line to define this so i cant say for certain as well..my school is a mission school which used to be SMB and recently SMK..and we are required to pay annual school fees (specific fees solely for the school)

so ya im afraid to say that would be most probable..since your core subjects are all A and you are of age..hmm the other only possibility would be that your documents did not arrive or there's some glitch in the system..

my best wish for you in appealing..hope you can get it since you do deserve it

if there are any other f6 students in your school who got it but you didn't..something is not right somewhere.Just send in a letter and call them.they'll give it to you for sure.Dont spaz just yet..they've handled so many applications they might have just missed yours.this scholarship is automatically awarded if you meet the requirements...

however you need not worry as i've friends who just know about it (some who didn apply for it but got it) and sent their surat pengesahan via post laju last week so as the new update does not give a closing date, i surmise that its still not too late ya =)

hello there..

i'd gotten the offer letter(the tarikh is 03/09/2008) on thursday from my kolej and received the letter in the kolej itself. I'm a matriks student in Gopeng, Perak. Basically, our kolej stated clearly that matriks students can only choose either to accept this or continue taking the allowance given by Bahagian Matrikulasi KPM(to be fair to other form 6 students). This means, no meaning for matriks students to apply for this Biasiswa Persekutuan Program Penajaan Tambahan Tahun 2008 JPA(changed name already), as we can only choose one of them, either scholarship or allowance. The amount will be the same according to my kolej's HEP(Hal Ehwal Pelajar), RM250 per month throughout period of studies.

Similarly to any other scholarships, this scholarship does have many terms and conditions, some basic ones are must attend lectures/class, cannot be involved in crime, cannot work while study, etc(all about being a good student). Most important thing that you guys want to know is about the bond. THERE IS NO BONDING for this scholarship(as stated in the offer letter).

another important thing to those form 6 students, if you want this scholarship, please send in the reply letter(that will be sent together with the offer letter) within 30 days of the date stated in the letter. After 30 days, you are considered rejecting it.

Another thing is, when you study in local U, JPA will continue giving scholarships with a minimum of 3.30 CPGA. BUT, you still have to reapply everything secara ONLINE.

RUMOURS are saying that it's better to accept this scholarship as existing 'scholars' will stand a BETTER chance to be sponsored when enter local U(they mentioned about database in JPA, whatsoever).

***Anyone who is willing to give a call to clarify this and the total amount of money that JPA will give?

so it's up to you! i'm considering rejecting it. This is for matriks students case. it's totally up to you!

yeap.. current allowances will only require some basic conditions which all of matriks students will surely fulfill. btw, it's not to difficult to fulfill the requirements for jpa though.

it's a different biasiswa for local U and now(matriks or form 6).

i don't think there will be appeal for it.. did u send in a complete application like those documents that are required when u fill in the online form? if not, you will never get it, since u never fulfill the requirements. anyway, u should ring up JPA for more info.

the bank islam info is unconfirmed as of now (in black & white at least) its just what the JPA officer informed my school counselor..i understand there are limited bank islam in the country and there are only 4 in the whole of sarawak which is bigger than the peninsular..i'm grateful that i live in kuching, the capital city.
