Who cares about quota. It's meritocracy that is important.

MARA give out 1900++ scholarships this year. so, i think the new quota is fair as it does not affect bumi

Er, uh, I thought it has already been increased to 45%, effective this year.

Either way, it's already been done, so obviously the government saw the need to make the distribution fairer.

This year's distribution of scholarships for the PILN followed the 55-45 quota.

well it is a good news for the non-bumis

whatever happens, just hope these thousands of people are grateful enough to get the scholarships (it is a privilage, not a need!). because if you guys read in one of the local newspaper, there are some students sent complaints about their malaysian peers, who are under govt sponsorship, actually told lies and criticise malaysia and malaysian government. how ungrateful is that?

The thing is... as long as the criticism is constructive, I don't see any problem for JPA scholar to criticise the government or the society. We don't improve from complacency or complements, we improve from criticism.

And for the record, I criticise the wrongs of the country in ReCom all the time. It doesn't mean that I am ungrateful to JPA though (with the currency rate nowadays, every time I get the monthly allowance I feel for the people's wallets :()

they actually told the things to non-malaysians. i mean, it is acceptable for your case since your criticisms are rather constructive. but it is unacceptable to censure about your nation and your scholarship provider to foreigners. sorry if i digress too much, but there are some political leaders in malaysia actually rebuke to foreign press, embarrassing the nation.

In any case though, some minister's manners and attitude are an even bigger disgrace of our country. Like, the guy who said the famous "you think we myanmar, you think we burma".

Anyway we have digressed. :)

Well I would have to admit that the new quota reflects the growing awareness of reducing the gaps between scholarship opportunities for people of different race.Everyone shares equal opportunity under the constitution and that should be the way when it comes to promoting academic excellence and education for all.Although the PPS(persatuan pelajar semenanjung or something like that)made a fuss about how unconstitutionally it was to drastically increase the percentage of scholarships offered, i believe such statement is both irrational and self-driven whereby the constitution never draw a clear line on how many percentage each race should be given in the matter of scholarship distribution.Hence, I am optimistic about further improvements on our country's education system.

Also, for those who failed to get it even after appealing, please be aware that the places are limited and competition is tough even though a greater percentage have been distributed for non-bumis.(Am i digressing here?)..
