It seems that the Thai prime minister is using public funds to buy shares in Liverpool. Do you think that Liverpool will benefit from this relationship? And do you think that Abdullah ahmed badawi should do the same to buy a stake in a premiership team?

Thaksin is buying the shares using his own money, and not public money. He was a multi-millionaire, or even billionaire before being Prime Minister of Thailand. He was from the corporate world, before getting into being Prime Minister of Thailand.
One of the main reasons Thaksin is buying the shares of Liverpool is to help transform the football/soccer standard of Thailand national team. There will be close relationships between Thailand and Liverpool team, which will help Thai a lot.
Don't think Malaysia will do a similar move, although we have done that in getting a stake in Minardi. Proton has also gotten a stake in Norwich City, which will gain promotion to Premier League next year.

It seems that you're wrong about where the money is coming from according to this report.

hmm....it seems that it's still a debate =)
Look here:

but buying a soccer club would be good for tourism perhaps? With soccer being the no.1 sport in the world, thailand's name will be known? like ppl actually know Malaysia now over here in UK....not like what my seniors told me like you gotta tell them we are above S'pore =)

if its public money, its wrong.
if its from his personal wealth, i dont give a damn.
BUT if the money helps push Man utd from third to fourth, BY ALL MEANS, INVEST IN LIVERPOOL!

although using public funds to buy a football club doesn't seem right, how cool would it be if you were a thai citizen and you could boast that "we own liverpool" literally?":D
at least it's better than owning minardi...

Proton sponsors Norwich City, the city where Lotus is based and our striker, Akmal Rizal is getting a trial from the team and who knows, we may have a Malaysian in a Premier League club.

After Thaksin, there is this speculation that Malaysian is looking into buying shares of Manchester United. Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar, owner of MK Land, with a personal wealth of RM1.644 bilion is planning to buy shares of MU to help develop the standard of soccer in Malaysia!

hopefully, he'll be chosen not because he's a malaysian. hopefully it's his talent, not the politics. remember alex young.

Ooh...Alex Yoong. Who can forget him? The guy drives an F1 car like a truck. I agree with Diesel that if Akmal is chosen, they should choose him for his talents and not because he is Malaysian and Norwich have a Malaysian sponsor. It degrades Malaysia's image if they do that.
