Just to ask whether what is the easiest way to connect up a XP PC and Vista PC by using Internet Cable?

For the method using Internet Cable connecting 2 PCs directly, I tried by changing the IP of one PC into 196.168.1.2 and another into 196.168.1.3, it works last time, but now it doesn't,
so I turned to creating a sharing folder in Vista, and then set the status of the document to be shared as "sharing", but it doesn't work either.

Anyone please help?

Check if both the PCs are in the same workgroup.

And if you are connecting the PCs directly, check your cable to see if they are crossover cables or not. (I assume they are, since it worked last time).

hmm, thanks for the reply, vseehua.

Just to confirm whether you need the same ,subnet mask, default gateway and DNS server address to be typed in for both PCs?

For the direct cable connection, I remember that a sharing folder will be created in Vista automatically after the connection is established, I am still stucked there now.
