afaik you're pretty much screwed. next time read the dialog boxes properly instead of just clicking "Next" and "OK"

try a partition/data recovery tool available online. You might b able to recover some of the data there. But only install in another computer and connect your hard drive there. Don't put too much hope on it though

Try any data recovery tool which is available on Internet,I think that will help you to get your data back. But from next time make sure that you are referring all the instruction not just going straight with Next and Ok. I am not sure that you will surely get your data back using suggested tool but just try it out may it help you.

Try not to install 2 different OS of different systems (Windows and Linux) as they may cause crashing. Do not put too much hope on the recovery thing, its almost hopeless. Well this gave you a big lesson T.T

Well this gave you a big lesson T.TFirst time I heard of this. I have been installing two(sometimes three) different OSes into my computer for more than 10 years now, and it has never caused instability in my Windows, Mac OS or Linux partitions.

I have 2 OS running in my 4-year-old computer too.
My XP crashed a few days ago but because I have Ubuntu, I can still use the computer. I just haven't found time to backup everything and reformat my XP.

As for the original question, I'm afraid there's nothing much you can do if everything got erased already. =( Try the recovery tools online but if those fail, then I am sorry about it. Next time though, backup everything first before installing anything (if you don't want to take any risk).

Well, the reading before clicking "next" will do just as well.

Btw, trying to understand how different system works is fun!

I believe it's worth noting that dual booting has little to no dangers of crashing both systems once you have installed them both safely. Usually any disasters that result in data loss happen while resizing partitions to make way for the new OS.

One more way of losing data is by sharing a (writable) partition between the two OS's, and starting up one OS when the other is hibernated. I once had the brilliant idea of doing that, and it resulted in quite a disaster.

I managed to recover my photos, some documents and text files from the partition by using "photorec", a program found in the "testdisk" package on Ubuntu. It worked by scanning the raw hard disk for chunks of bits that looked like certain types of files, and pulling them out into individual files. It didn't work too well for my music collection though, each MP3 I had got fragmented into 1-5 second pieces.
