juz got d petronas letter today. for the overseas programme corresponding with my course (petroleum/geoscience/environmental engineering), petronas asked me to do IB in banting. i would be really grateful if any1 would mind to share their 2 cents on the latter. do any1 noe the conditions in banting? the rules and stuffs? erm..can any1 tell me more abt the IB pre-u thingy? i heard abt it before, and it's said to be quite hard ( compulsary to take 2 language? ) not too sure if it's the best choice..

thanks fer your helps, really appreciate it~! :D

hey solace,i bet that letter brought both solace and confusion.but let me congratulate you for that.

banting.i used to go to the same BTN (a camp) with those from mara banting.regardless of the genders, the rules for clothes are undigestable.girls regardless of race have to wear baju kurung.guys, formal attire.

I think IB is not that hard if you are willing to go extra miles.I know someone who scored 44 out of 45,she sadly received 6 out of 7 for her BM paper.but i guess that's a decent score.

during her time, they were 2 ppl with perfect 45.so it's doable.it depends on you,how willing you are to work smart/hard to attain the perfect scores.

the problem arrises when ppl with 10,11 A1s were still drifting with their results and failed to work hard for IB.

I suggest that you should just go for it.

But if you are the kind who cant stand rules and regulations, and who love city life, banting may give you hard time.but almost all preparatory colleges are like that.

I dont really know you,but banting sounds fine for UK.

oo, thanks phantom.

lolz~ yeap, solace and confusion

is IB for uk? i thought UK only accepts a-levels as a university requirement. it was stated that where i end up overseas depend on how well(keputusan cemerlang) i do in the pre-u thingy ( in this case, IB) they'll either send me to UK, aussie, or nz. can IB be accepted for UK?

oh..other than the dress code, are the accomodations ok? the hostels and food? studying conditions?

lolz.is IB hard? as in tougher than f6? do u really have to take 2 languages? walau eh...haha..

IB is a good program. Check out http://www.ibo.org/

I found this article in NST some time back. http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/cy55/IB.html

Yeah, I agree with phantom that it is possible to be successful, but those who get the scholarships need to keep their heads level. I have seen too many scholars, after getting their straight A1s, feel that they are on the top of the world. Come back to earth!!! Almost everyone that get the scholarships are about equal to each and every one of us.

So, the main thing is working hard.

Mara Banting will have strict regulation since it is a boarding school. So, if you are used to boarding school, you are fine. If you are an adaptable person (this is an essential skill), you will be fine too...

And top UK institutions accept IB... Even US universities accept IB.

oo, thanks chenchow..

im juz wondering..if it's possible to call petronas up, and request for a change..maybt to kyuem to do a-levels? would it be a gud idea? would petronas reject the request straight away?

i'm really not too sure abt banting..im not really used to very strict places..

IB takes 2 whole years? sigh..
