We are very excited to present you with the latest development in ReCom - ReCom 2.1. We upgraded our site architecture to vBulletin 3.7.x, which we expect will greatly improve our members experience here at ReCom. What do you expect to see in this ReCom 2.1? A lot, we'd say. It is now not just a forum, but is also a social networking platform for Malaysian students and young professionals to get together, interact and ignite new ideas. Below are most of the major additions and improvements:

New theme/style with new banner, if you haven't realized. We hope the new look will give ReCom a new perspective.
Social Groups (http://www.recom.org/forum/group.php) where members can form and join groups and socialize like never before. We expect to see groups specific to states of Malaysia, hobbies/interests, ideologies etc to spring up but we give you all the freedom to form groups for any concepts you can think of.
Picture Albums (http://www.recom.org/forum/album.php) for members to upload pictures and discuss about them among each other. You can also send pictures from your albums to any of the social groups you are a member of.
New look for member profile pages. Now you can customize the fonts, colours etc of your profile page and have your visitors leave messages.
Improved buddy system. Now you can have reciprocal friendship with other members. Then you can set any of your picture albums to be private and only share them with your friends. Build up your friend list!
Thread tagging (http://www.recom.org/forum/tags.php) and prefixes. Did you know that we have thousands of threads and hundreds of thousands of posts? Now you can tag them with up to 25 keywords for each thread. And for new threads you now add prefix that will quickly tell others what your thread is about. This will improve the value and searchability of the huge collection of threads and posts we have accumulated since the beginning of ReCom.
Social bookmarking support with which you can submit any threads at ReCom to one of the social bookmarking services so that you can help others to discover ReCom. We currently have Digg, del.icio.us (http://del.icio.us/), StumbleUpon or Google in our list but you can always suggest more!
Site Map (http://www.recom.org/forum/sitemap.php) and About Us (http://www.recom.org/forum/about.php) sections. Ever wondered what ReCom offers or what ReCom is? We added these two new sections just for your information.

Do enjoy the new features of ReCom 2.1! If you happen to find any bug or come up with interesting ideas, please highlight it here.

p/s: To those who just discovered us, welcome to ReCom.org. Please browse our site map (http://www.recom.org/forum/sitemap.php) to see what we have, or simply dive straight into our forum (http://www.recom.org/forum/index.php).

Thanks a lot, Luke, Leen, Xon, Youngyew, Vseehua, Jiinjoo and many others who have worked hard in order to bring upon ReCom 2.1!!!

Thanks a lot too to masterof_none and bachok83 for founding ReCom 67 months ago in April 2003, and who would imagine that ReCom.org would be at where it is today.

Thanks a lot to the support by thousands of ReComers, who have helped to bring ReCom.org to where it is now! Who can imagine that ReCom.org has registered 33 Million Web Hits in the first 10 months of 2008?

Lets all work together to bring ReCom.org to the next stage!!!

Click on any ReComer's name and make friend with them. Leave something on their "Visitor Message" box (something called "wall" at facebook)

Ask other ReComers to come visit too!

Just as a bonus, owners of social groups with more than 5 members can create their own forum (aka social forum) and the group owners automatically become the local moderator in their own social forum. :wink

This is a really great start for a better ReCom in the future.
I think in the near future, we don't really need facebook anymore.

Facebook has no forum!.

A report on traffic, total traffic for 14th November US time (i.e. 14th November PM and 15th November AM for Malaysia time), we have a total trafic of 128,000 webhits. That's 50% increase from usual traffic of 80,000+ during this off season.

I am currently working on another feature to add to ReCom 2.1 long list of new features. It's not yet complete but we can already see it in action here: http://www.recom.org/forum/showthread.php?t=301

Anyone notices anything different on that thread?

It's the button next to the thread heading. If you click on it, a box pops up, showing a tree-like structure containing a few thread titles. That tree-like structure is thread prequels & sequels.

I've noticed that we have some threads that are like sequels to each another, in particular those with "part 2", "part 3" in their titles. The new feature (codenamed "Thread Sequel") allows admins to add prequel-sequel relationship to threads and the complete prequels and sequels tree will be made available for visitors to quickly jump from sequel to prequel and vice versa)

Currently the display part is done but the admin function is in progress. But I prefer not to wait for that part to finish before we can start using the new feature, so I included the display part of the feature into ReCom 2.1. If anyone knows any threads that can be made related as prequel & sequel, do let me know I'll manually add the relationship into database.

Thanks :)

well, i suggest if it's possible to diversify each thread colours.. for example, for malaysia today, red colour is used, for pre-u purple is used, etc etc... then again it some may nt like it.. but i think it'll make it much more interesting and colourful tat way.

List me 60 colors or more to colorize all our 60+ forum categories ... Then, imagine how ReCom would look with all the colors.

I don't think it will be functional or good-looking.

haha..i fervently agree with you
neither functional nor good-looking..firstly, let us shan't talk about whether it's functional. just look the recom forum at the first glance,
you may think that: is this a rainbow??
:P

well, it was only a suggestion. sorry if i made u guys upset after putting so much effort. BUt as what u mentioned, there are 60 different forum categories. I'm sure not all are being put into use. In fact, there are threads which are how can i say.. erm.. 'over-loaded' by now especially in scholarship conversations then again i'm sorry if my comment made seem to made u guys unhappy.. it's just colour u knw.. jz thought of cheering things up a little u know, giving recom a new coat of paint.

Haha no senksiang we are not unhappy at all (sorry if we appeared too defensive). I thank you for your suggestion. For me I just thought that it will not work well. :P

Go to Index, then select the category you want to post a thread under, then choose "new thread".
