I would like to start a tread about an author whom I respect...
I really great author from china : 余秋雨 Yu Qiu Yu...
He writes a lot about culture and history...
his unique way of writing is...
as a writer it?s better to tell story on the tips of toe rather than just the tip of pen....

his book has changed my perception completely.... whenever I visit a historical site like old castle or ancient town, I really think like him... considering the rise and fall of the local civilisation. The humanism of ancient culture etc.

I wish I have chance to read more of his works...

He?s also a true fighter of Piracy...
despite being treaten by many BIG piracy media corp and critics... he still go on his path...
he?s willing to stop writing rather than succumb to them...

he?s a true warrior of modern literature.....

This is the book I have read before coming to Germany... it?s another travel book of YQY
in this book he has travelled to 26 countries in Europe and telled stories about them in great detail...
If u wish to travel europe I recommend u to read his book first....

Where can we get his books? I've been browsing all the major bookstores in KL (MPH, Populars), but still failed to find his books.

I got his book "xing zhe wu jian" from popular (there r 2 versions there)

you definitely can get his books in Shang hai book store
there r titles like xing zhe wu jiang, wen hua ku lu etc.

his books are completely blockbusters as i know... although i hv yet to try his wen2 hua4 ku3 lu3.

i am extremely intoxicated in his talks while in taiwan... he can talk for over an hour without stopping for a sip... he doesnt even hv to draft his speech!!!

i'm quite impressed with his point of view though, stating that the the yardstick of beauty among chinese culture has yet to be compared to the european culture. this is as throughout european revoultion especially during renaissance, the medici family and many other anthorative families vied to gain respect by recruiting artists from all over the continent. this in a way has helped to distinguish their standard of beauty and has since been widespread. but taking a peek into chinese streets, there you see, colourful banners, neon lights all over the shop plates, somehow defies and degrades the elegance as a whole.
i agree with him, and us chinese still have a long way to a culture with chic, elegance and exquisite.
