As an adult we might loose our innocence in life...
esp when we are busy chasing our dreams and desire... we might turn into some charactor like what is described in the book...
the book hels us to reflect on ourselves...

are you the Light keeper on the small planet who just follow rules and don?t change in life? life isn?t always straight as things always change... at least we should think and reflect on things around us...

are u the manager who?s obssess with illusion in life? what?s the most precious things in our life? the things that we try to gain all the time? after we reach our ultimate goal, when we look back, it?s all empty...

what do u think of the little flower?

talking about the wild plants that grow fast... If we don?t always reflect on ourselves and improve ourselves, we will end up like the planet with full of plants...

of course the most important of all we should have an innocence in ourselves, not blinded by our greed and desire....

I also learn that making friends is important in life... just like what the fox has suggested....

enjoy the story...!

I just finished the first chapter. Although it is a very short one, it brought upon a lot of reflections on how we judge people, how we look at things. Are we looking at bigger pictures? details?

Do we really understand things around? Do adults/grown-ups always be more knowledgable than children? I fail the test of the drawings too... Any ReComers manage to guess it right in the first place?

Have fun reading. It is a nice one.

This is a paragraph in Chapter 7 that I like a lot. It is truly a book that helps us a lot in reflecting.

"I know a planet where there is a certain red-faced gentleman. He has never smelled a flower. He has never looked at a star. He has never loved any one. He has never done anything in his life but add up figures. And all day he says over and over, just like you: 'I am busy with matters of consequence!' And that makes him swell up with pride. But he is not a man--he is a mushroom!"

having read your comments abt 'The Little Prince', I think I'm going to start reading it the 4th time.

i tried reading it before, but never got as far as the 2nd chapter.......this was 2 years ago i think. my first feeling abt reading it was, everything was too extreme to be related to my life at least.......but having read your comments, i think there might be something i've missed.

There's a phrase in the book that keep cropping up: "matter of consequence". Can anyone give an example of that in our real life? Does, say, learning how to play the piano constitute a matter of consequence? An example of where the line is drawn is given in chapter 4:

They never say to you, "What does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies?" Instead, they demand: "How old is he? How many brothers has he? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father make?" Only from these figures do they think they have learned anything about him.
So I gather that numbers give consequence? Last week I just attended a hiring meeting and I was told to look out for numbers on a resume - it's usually a red flag. What do you mean by reduce cost by 30%? Fire 30% of your department? It's better to read about what you done instead of seeing numbers. Why then would the "grown-ups" as referred to in the book like numerical things?

Another part of the book that I like is chapter 8 and 9, where the prince tended to the proud flower whom he doesn't know how to love. How hard is it for the flower to be humble? I think the prince did the right thing, although it would take a few flowers before he understands the flower's needs. Relationships between people will be so much better if we can all just open up and be truthful to ourselves and everyone else!

Authority, Admiration, Irrational, Greed, Obedience, Duty, all good stuff. Time to clean my volcano. Got some matter of consequence to attend to with some other baobabs tomorrow...

Seems like I discover this forum a little too late. :D The Little Prince is my favorite! I have chinese, english and original french version of it. I have read it for at least 10 times. When I was in primary school, I started reading it but I did not finish it. When I get older, I pickep up the book again and quickly fall in love with it. Everytime I read the book, I learn something new. There are many parts of the book which I don't fully understand.. so I will keep my little prince collections forever. I love the friendship between fox and little prince. That makes little prince understand the true meaning of love. The rose is special because it's HIS rose. I have recommended the book to many of my friends and some of them really love it just like I do. I hope I can recommend it to everyone.. It's a book that changes your life. Trust me. :)

"Three and two make five. Five and seven make twelve. Twelve and three make fifteen. Good morning. FIfteen and seven make twenty-two. Twenty-two and six make twenty-eight. I haven't time to light it again. Twenty-six and five make thirty-one. Phew! Then that makes five-hundred-and-one million, six-hundred-twenty-two-thousand, seven-hundred-thirty-one."

"Five hundred million what?" asked the little prince.

"Eh? Are you still there? Five-hundred-and-one million--I can't stop . . . I have so much to do! I am concerned with matters of consequence. I don't amuse myself with balderdash. Two and five make seven . . ."
Reminds me of those who count their money.

And also Malaysians who strive for the records like "the longest flag in the world".

Thanks a lot chenchow for sharing the links. I tried searching in the public library for this book some time ago but failed.

This book sounds philosophical to me. I'm sure I will enjoy reading it.

i don understand why the little prince had to die in the end...

if he jus goes back to his own planet, he's still leaving the narrator n the narrator can stil look up into the sky n hear his laughter among the stars...

~digressing~

when i went back last month, i found this cute piggy cartoon, called McDull, prince de la Bun. watching it, though it seems to be without a storyline, coz it goes on and on and on, somehow the story reminds me of this book, The Little Prince. I'm not sure whether you guys hv wtchd this cartoon, but it seems to be very popular among my Chinese friends. it's a hong kong cartoon production. cute, and very funny.

~back to topic~
anyway, i love little prince as well..though stmes, i cant get what the author is saying. it's deep, just as most french books are...but i like it...

and the phrase, "matter of consequences", i guess whatever that happens, is affected by our actions, our words and our environment. And that things that happen around us, affect us in ways that we might not realize.

I found another book related to the little prince, might buy it. hv been eyeing it for quite a while...will get it soon, when i am more financially secure hehehe

I have read the little prince once time. I remember by heart some line in that book. At the beginning, the narrator decribe when he was young and a picture has drawn by him, but nobody can understand it. This make me ponder on.
Does the adult only see the thing on its surface but not really think over about the real message that someone want to share with others? One of my friends has make the experiment on other people, most of the people say that is a hat without really think about it.
This book have a lot of message between the line and most of them are criticism the attitude and and action done by the people nowaday. After reading this book, I knew that i need to self-questioning the thing i doing right now is meaningful or not.
