So tell us about your kampung... the place where you spend your childhood in......

Hmm... i'm from Bukit mertajam, a small pekan in the southern region of Province Wellesley, Penang. Jit Sin High School is only a walking distance away from my home (about 500 m or so) but i don't think I am qualified to study there (coz I am tagged with a BANANA status). Ended up in BM High School.

As much as I want to say I have many wonderful memories in my hometown, I would want to move out of it ASAP. Well, coz I'm living in the BM's water world - Taman Sri Rambai. Those who know place know it because it's infamous for flood. Major flood occurs every 4 years. So last year juz kena another big flood. Hard to get in or out of the place. Sigh, those who live there should be as frustrated as i am about the flood thingy.

My hometown is Nibong Tebal, at the southern border of Penang state with Perak. i was fortunate to go to Jit Sin High School. And flood is a major problem.

For instance, last year during PMR, my school students have to take lorry to go to school... It was flood season. Although my school performed only decently well (only about 210 8As for that year), and left my Principal very dissatisfied, I think the spirits among those students there who had to be there at 5 something am, waiting for the lorries (that those people in the community volunteer to drive and share their lorry), are worth credits.

Nibong Tebal is a lovely town. Little town with not much to offer, but it is quite a relaxing place. Anywhere within it could be reached by bicycle. People around know one another. Hence, I would say it is a pretty good community...

My home town is Kepong, Selangor. it?s just located on the border of KL and Selangor so we can be both KL people and Selangorian at the same time....

Kepong is not really a big town but it?s really nice to live here.
FRIM (forest research institute of malaysia) is just near my house so the air is quite fresh here.

I was studying in SRJK Desa Jaya and SMK Taman Ehsan.

now there?s intense housing development in Kepong where so many appartments are built here. new Tamans are formed here and now Kepong is becoming more colourful.

there?s a new JUSCO complex just erected not long ago at Jalan Kepong, so it would be easy to shop around there...

Somehow the traffic Jam is getting worse in my place. I hope things will get better...

one remarkable thing in Kepong is its flyover bridge. it?s so big and long as if it?s endless, an it?s built in the middle of Kepong... it?s like a gigantic structur erected over the busy roads...

at starry nights I love to lie down alone on comfortable grass, watching the coloured clouds chasing the moon...
wow... the night sky is so beautiful in Kepong...

Ahh... there's no place like home.... err...... like the flyover?

iQing
02-06-2004, 04:15 PM
yup... the flyover looks monstrous... in fact the "thing" you see in the picture is only a small portion of it... it still extend quite far away.... it would take more than 5 minutes to drive through that thing...

not to mention the food in my place... mamak and chinese food.

Just recently Kepong has a new satalite town known as Aman Puri.
That place is the food world... wahlau, there got so many food shop and food stall cramming in one small place... now even more stalls are erected. day and night you can order chicken chop, chicken rice, sushi and so many things....

there got few rows of shops selling such kind of food....

another thing I miss a lot is cyber cafe... I surf internet and play CS there and it?s a part of my life...

Yupz...
SP Rockz!!!

although there isnt much entertainment compared to Penang ... i still found it the best place to live in...
you could walk alone midnight without worrying much about your safety (erm...that was a few years back and dunno how it is now)...
and i "miss" the Petani River (or is it Sungai Muda??!?! not sure bout the name) ... lepaking with my friends after playing basket at stalls which sell "ia ka", "angtau ka" etc ...
lepaking at the famous "lover's bridge @<hidden> qing ren qiao" at Taman Sejati which has the best view of highway :P although not many goes there now when i last went back to SP.
I think the main reason I love it is because i had most of my sweet and bitter memories there...my family...friends...school...and everything....

Exam days ... pressure...feeling down...lonely...
and at these time...
close up my eyes...
and SP ...
I'm back again ...

SP becomes a well known hometown after Ong Jin Hock scored 13A1
and there are a lot of JPA scholars who are from SP...

by the way, I go to Klang freequently... it?s my mum?s hometown...
it?s also one of the most famous hokkien town... famous for bak kut teh...

I like to be in Klang ... maybe it?s because of the atmosphere and the thick black juicy soup....

By the way, your dad used to swim at the river?!??! wow... but i did saw some small kids from rumah setinggan swimming there before.

I have just remembered somehing about my home garden...

My home garden, taman ehsan, was one the taman made sample in one of the kajian tempatan in PMR Geography SASBADI
and malaysian students from all over malaysia read SASBADI and I think this is how people get to know my home taman... wah, so glamour also.

it?s because my geography teacher in my school is the writer of SASBADI Geografi and her husband yew chee wei is the writer of SASBADI Sejarah.

I am lucky to have 2 famous writer teaching in my taman...
so it?s a wonderful experience for me...
now it?s only nostalgic memories left...

basically a Subang Jaya boy...
city kid...

but i think my hometown is Kajang.... my father used to live there...

Kajang is famous for nothing else but it's Satay... Kajang SATAY... really nice...

so... i'm a Subang Jaya boy... wat to be proud of.... the MALLS...

first, when i was young... the SUBANG PARADE is like the longest mall in South East Asia... and my parent will bring me there... still remember the Fun Fair there... now, it's the garden opposite of Carrefour...

then, there's this Carrefour... which created waves of crazy midnight sale.... and ppl will coz massive traffic congestion, just becoz carrefour has midnight sale... Subang ppl are crazy, in order to save rm 5 on paper... they rather queue up for 2 hours... and after that, stuck ni the traffic pile up for another 1 hour... and they can still be happy, thinking rm 5 save in the pocket...

then, USJ became so so big.... bigger than Subang Jaya itself, and the traffic congestion problem turn from bad to worse... it is a daily routine to see the major roads and the 2 roundabout in Subang to be filled with CARS during the peak hours... 7-9am and 6-8pm...
now, the town municipal is building a really long and seems impossible flyover to divert the car straight to Federal Highway... all the trees (that shadowed me for most of my walking journey to school when i was in form 1 and form2) were chopped... ouch...ENTS must be angry...

then, there's this Sunway Lagoon...which makes ppl to swarm here to swim... those slides, thrill rides... and the wave pool...
then the Sunway Pyramid... tell u something which most ppl dunno... b4 they change it, it is really a Sphinx there... (the human head with the now lion body....)but bcoz of feng shui... they decided to change it to lion head with the lion body...

so, wat's so big about Subang Jaya??? oh, it must be the colleges...
there are like 5 colleges around and in Subang Jaya.... the Inti, the Metropolitan, Monash Uni, Sunway, Taylor (according to alphabetical order).... these colleges have really shaped Subang Jaya... the college students really keep Subang Jaya alive... especially at night...

in the weekend, u can't really find the mamak(a big thing in Subang) being occupied unless it is 10pm onwards... u will find that the mamak and cybercafes are more crowded at 2am compared to at 10pm...

cybercafes are another big hit in Subang Jaya... there are like more than 50 cybercafes during the peak time...(year 1998 and year 1999).... now, there are about 30 cyber cafes in Subang Jaya...(mostly in SS15, where the 3 colleges(INTI, Metropolitan and Taylor) are situated...

that's Subang Jaya...

Hmm... Well, it's good that you like your hometown, dm. But i would have prefered a nice and solitude neighborhood, with less traffic and less polution.

My hometown was what i had described until Jit Sin High School was built 500 m away from my house. And since then, at 1-2 pm and 6-7 pm everyday, my place would be flooded by hundreds and hundreds of cars and buses fetching their children to and back from school... and then food courts mushroomed like no one's business, causing more hectic traffic than usual. Luckily there's this small park about 200 m away from my house. Used to train my Penang Bridge Run there... The park is still beautiful, and i find myself going there once a while each time i go back to penang.

However, flood is the major issue in my hometown. Every 4 years once my place will flood. Albeit my parents had renovated the house, the high water level hampered most roads and thus cut off the access to other places. I remembered the first time my house was flooded. It was 1995. Flood swept through Taman Sri Rambai. Most residents were unaware of it, and found their house filled with water the next day. Cars could not get on the road coz the water level was very high. Electric was cut off for safety precautions. And to add to our woes, we ran out of gas. Thus, we survived on dry biscuits and milo for our meals for a day. The next day, lorries came to evacuate us... I remembered a giant leech was stuck to my mom's toe. Eew... luckily we brought salt along with us. One of my neighbors encountered a water snake. Kinda scary.... And we stayed in my grandparents house for a week until the water subsided... And the flood after glow... wah lan... the whole place stinked! And we got to clean and clean and clean the house. Then my parents got fed up and then they got my house renovated. It still floods once every 4 years...

my hometown (Taiping!!!) is famous for its rain... hehe... i love rain.... cos it reminds me of the times i watch the trees shaking in the rain... and the droplets of water splashing on my face...and the grey clouds covering the hills.... the smell of rain water...and the gushing of water down the hill where i live... sometimes i will just imagine myself flying in the storm......

And of course the hills!! Taiping without the hills will make my heart break.... if i am lucky, the hill on which i live will be shrouded by mist in the morning... and i will feel so cold and sleepy tht i dun feel like going to school...

Taiping Lake gardens... though notorious for its night activities, is a picture of serenity in the morning.... with hundreds of old ppl and health conscious ppl...... hmm... i can just imagine the birds chirping and the water trickling down the little streams...

Hi everyone..

I'm from the city of Kuching...in East Malaysia. Picture is attached below:

http://www.studentbmj.com/back_issues/0299/graphics/kuching.jpg

Contrary to common belief, we do not swing from tree to tree..or even drink water from coconut everyday. hehehe, I would say that kuching is one of the more livable places in M'sia for those who do go clubbing. We have fresh air, the occasional haze during the Gawai season, almost no floods and a very clean city(relatively) since our city council tries to emulate Singapore in every way. Food is abundant in Kuching, you will never be caught hungry as coffeeshops are ubiquitous. If any of u do come.. feel free to try our Mee Goreng Tomato and sarawak laksa, u wont regret it!

I live in the Green Road area of kuching, a suburb area about 15 mins drive from the city center. For those who enjoy nature, Sarawak is the best place to come...next to Sabah(dang, i miss the fresh air in Kinabalu Park). We are 30 mins away from Damai Beach(a resort area riddled with hotels for nature tourism) and it is always fun to drive there at a speed of 140Kph *GrinZ*

The night sky is always good to look at in Kuching, especially when you take strolls by the Waterfront(a pier-like area with water the color of Teh-si). Gotta love that place...

Guess thats all about my hometown..too bad jobs are scarce..or i would be back home already
:D

Teluk Intan...my hometown...
It's neither a big or a small town...

Just lately it is declared as 'Pembandaran Teluk Intan'...and during the declaration...Siti Nurhaliza was invited to give a performance (concert)...where the Sultan of Perak was also present...
Yeah...and everything was held at the Teluk Intan's landmark - The Menara Condong Teluk Intan...

So what's in Teluk Intan...two supermarkets ( Fajar and Billion ) which is relatively close to each other...a bus station located opposite Billion...

Food?? We have our proudly well known 'chee cheong fun', 'laksa', 'pan meen', 'wantan meen', and many more...( oh yea, satay too )
Come and visit TI and you'll see food stalls all around the city of TI...

School...yeah we have St. Anthony School, Convent, Horley Methodist...all in the same area... (near the St. Anthony Church and a Catholic graveyard)...i'm in St. Anthony...

To say the truth...it's little fun in TI...but at night...friends would gather at 'Asraf Restoran' to watch live football match...(they have big screen and of course 'Astro')...

The road are nice to drive on...newly paved tar-road...wider...

People here are friendly...(most of them)...
I LOVE TELUK INTAN!!!

i am from sarikei. do anyone know sarikei? i live at sarikei for 15 years before i move to sibu.

sarikei is just a small town. it is not as busy as big city, but i just like the quietness of sarikei. at sarikei, you can go anywhere fast and you won't lost in a small town. if you do lost in that small town, i will not know what to say again...

7 years ago, sarikei only have a traffic light! yes! only 1 traffic light! but since 4 years ago, there is a more additional traffic light at town edge(i think it is town edge). Not like KL, there is so many traffic lamp and the trafic jam is so serious at peak hour.

what can i say more about sarikei? can't recall it now. later lah...... ok?

launa
07-07-2004, 06:34 PM
i remember now!

let me introduce all the school that sarikei have.

sarikei have at least 6 primary school. there are srb methodist, srb kuan qien, srb shi kuan, srk st. anne ( these are all that i can recall for now, i will add more later). for secondary school, there are a few, namely smk bander sarikei, smb st. anthony, smk high sarikei and sekolah teknik. well, i study at srb methodist and smk bander sarikei. i need 5 minute to go to my primary school but i need 10 to 15 minute to go to smk bander sarikei.

sarikei can hardly have flood except there is sudden environmental change. i only encounter flood once in sarikei when there is continuous raining for 1.5 days and it flooded into my house car park. lucikly it did n't flood into my living room.

ok that is all for now. i will edit later

Nothing to belittle Sarikei la...good food though especially fruits.

BTW, what you doing in Sibu then? Form 6?

my hometown is setapak...this is the place where i spent my childhood's life...

erm...nothing special bout this place. if want to give a brief intro to this place is that it is very near to the city. the titiwangsa lake garden is there. well i used to jogged in that garden. erm it only takes 10 minutes to reach at klcc. and it used to be a place to be passed by when you are going to genting highland.

well, i spent three yrs of primary school life at srjkc munyee (a small school). i always take a walk to school. and now i'm so miss those friends.

after that, i moved to kepong which is currently where i resident. does it still call as hometown too :P . but i still wanna talk bout it, cuz i want make the message a bit longer.

erm. kepong is a small town which a bit lively than setapak. here got a lot of shopping complex like jusco, parkson (one utama). and yet this town is juz like what did han ching describe. got a huge flyover (MR II).

by the way, i'm han ching's friend. ok till then, i can't think of anything to describe both town. once i think of, i will post again.

my hometown is in cheras,kl ,taman saraya(near taman muda). its a typical housing area. pack of ppl, full of food stalls, 2 shopping centres, fields everywhere, got pasar pagi, mini, and malam. public transportation can be found easily like buses ,lrt, and teksi. the climate here is getting hotter because the dbkl keep cutting down the old age trees for no reason. in front of my house is a big green field, equip with nothing but onli grass. over the field is houses. 2 other sides of the field r also houses.just behind my house can see houses , houses , and houses.

sound boring...??? i think its all the same in any part of this concreate jungle, kuala lumpur.

My hometown is Klang, not China ya! I know pandas are from China....haha.

Actually, Klang is famous for it's Bak Kut Teh (sorry not being non-halal here). But as I seldom eat out, I dont know where are the famous places to eat. Port Klang, which is Klang's neighbour, is famous for the seafood. Again, I dont know what are the places as I just follow my parents to eat and I'm no good in judging foods. I just know how to eat...

Basically, nothing much I can say about Klang. Will include some photos later. Photobucket is having problems at the moment.

One thing I hate about Klang is the bus service. I used to take bus to my tuition centre in Klang town, and the busses are always very packed. The drivers are really arrogant and I really hate them. They kept taking up passengers although the bus already way off the passenger limit.

TESCO just opened an outlet not far away from my place. Due to this, I think thats why the number of crimes also increases. My housing area was very safe last time, not theft at all. But now, two houses near my house was intruded by thieves under broad daytime. It's very scary nowadays.

Thats all for the time being.

Wow, no one from Johor Bahru yet...Ok, I shall be the first then.
My hometown, Johor Bahru, although I wasn't borned here but I spend most of my life here. This place, very near to S'pore, and in fact, the things here are getting more expensive due to throngs of S'poreans during weekends. Anyway, no offense here okay? Nothing special in JB as far as I'm concerned, unless you like shopping, and there's Holiday Plaza, which is the best place for pirated VCDs....hehe..
My childhood...much of the time I spent it with my neighbor, but she has moved to S'pore since Primary 4, but we are still close friends even till now. We cycled together, being mischievous, and also attended drawing lessons together. During my secondary school days, I was pretty much occupied with studies and prepared myself for exams, PMR and SPM. Maybe my parents are rather protective, that's why I wasn't allow to go out at night or hang out much with friends. To me, 'lepak' is never in my dictionary, till I entered university.
That's pretty much about it. Anyone from JB?

My hometown is Baling. Does anybuddy know about Rundingan Baling? If you dun know...ahaha..just wonder what grade you get for your Sejarah. Go back to have a look at your buku Sejarah.:P
Well, Baling is a small town located in Kedah. My favorite travel spots during my childhood in Baling is LataBayu and Bukit Hijau.. I used to mandi at Sungai and airterjun. ahaha..anak kampung:o) Oh yeah, i had a group of good monkey friends. We used to go lepak at dusun durian and playing "Chulengchi",buah getah. Tangkap ikan at sawahpadi is also my hobby... Macam tu lahh hidup di Baling ahaha...It was a great time!!! Well, I love it....Well, People in Baling live in harmony and peaceful. We have Malays,Chineses,Indians,Siamese and orang asli. People mingle very well here. Malay fishmonger near to my house speaks very well in Hokkian."Chit Kilo sakoh sakoh"(satu kilo tiga ringgit tiga riggit). And ,my Indian neigbour daugther get A1 in SPM for her Mandarin subject. ahaha...far better than me. I got C in Mandarin for my PMR...malu!malu! My dad likes sepak laga. Every evening main sepak laga with my his Malay friends. Some of people may think my dad is Malay. Besides having a darkskin, my dad also like to wear sarung. That's why.....Oh yeah,my dream girl during my 2ndary school is Siamese..ehehhe..So, you see, people here do mix to each other.
Everytime i go back to Baling, i will ride my Yamaha 80,damn old bike, to jalan-jalan and makan angin. Well, baling is a good place!!!Baling is makin maju nowdays. It was just blessed with 2 traffic lights few years ago.. Now i am living in a town having thousands of traffic lights..aiyoh...Just get confused everytime when i cross the road....ahaha..
Got anybuddy from Baling??

Okay..bye bye....

I went there once, when I visited my friend in Tanjong Sepat. Baling is quite developed since there is a KFC outlet..haha. I like some other places near Baling such as Tg. Sepat and Morib. Anyplace near to sea will be my favorite spot. Just simply love to feel the cool wind and the salty smell of air from sea. What a unique and harmony life you have, labulabu.

I am originated from Tanjong Malim, Perak. The distance between my hometown and KL is just an hour of car ride It is a much smaller town as compared to Baling, Skudai, and Ipoh. Indeed my second home in UTM campus itself is much larger than my hometown area. My hometown used to be famous with its "pau" (sorry for mentioning non-halal food). Last time when PLUS highway wasn't built yet, many people traveling from south to north via Tg.Malim and vice versa would stop by to have some snack/tea in a cafe called as Yik Mun. Actually I didn't know that it used to be so popular until I had met few peoples in Klang and even here in Skudai mentioning that cafe.

About 15 minutes car ride away from Tg.Malim, our favorite picnic party location, Sg.Bil is located in a kampung area near Behrang Ulu. Here are some photos taken at Sg. Bil:

And the latest hot spot in my hometown is Proton City. The production has been running since the end of last year. The last time I went there, it's still under construction.

Are you talking about that sticky sweet thing? Delicious! (but I thought it was "ma sak kei")

I live in Kuantan, but my hometown is Penang...both my parents are from there. hehe...I'm kinda glad about that 'cos during Chinese new year I only have to go to Penang and not to other places as well... hate travelling... ^_^

We also call that sticky sweet delicacy as Sak Kei Ma. I heard too other people call it as Ma Sak Kei. I dislike that thing ; too sweet. My parent and grand ma enjoy it very much.

"Greatest Curry Pow in the world" (Jiin Joo) really makes me wonder. How come I do not know that? May be already familiar and "bored" with that "pau" since I grow up there. For your information, Yik Mun,the pau seller is still operating in the present.

This is because I only get to eat it twice a year, when my family pays homage to Kuala Kangsar (later Ipoh after grandparents moved). Once during Chinese New Year, once during Ching Ming (sapu makam week). And you can't find curry pau in PJ. And moreover, I haven't eaten that for 4 straight years!!!

anyone from Alor Setar here?
hmm..i dont think so.
Well..i'm not actually a true Alor Setarian since i was born in Kuantan *yes, you heard me :D * but i was raised in Kedah.
Moved to Jitra, to this place called Taman Pasu and then moved again to Tmn Cahaya, the taman right in front of the Masjid Aa'la. Stayed in Jitra for like 7 years, then my dad bought a house in Tmn Uda, Alor Setar. So we moved *again!* to Alor Str..and stayed there, for like 8 years until last November.

* * *

last Nov, my whole family moved to Kepala Batas, Penang coz my dad got transferred to UiTM Penang. I was kinda sad and at first, resented the thought of moving as moving means i'd hv to leave all the familiar, and get used to the new ones.

Moving to Kepala Batas means i hv to do it all over again..relearn all the routes..explore the place..huhuh...

but then, as time passed by, i began to realise that this new place i now call home, is not so bad either.
The distance fr KL is nearer, which is such a big big important matter to me, since i hate bus rides *reason why i seldom go back home*
then, Kepala Batas is such a small town that you get everything in one place. Like at the pekan, there'll be like this massive jam *which is why i refer to it as a kota metropolitan, since the road's like jammed at all time - coz there's only one road haha* and they hv like quite good facilities *it being Pak Lah's hometown might hv sthing to do w this hehe* There's a small perpustakaan desa, a 7-Eleven *there's like only one 7-Eleven in the big town of Alor Setar, imagine having one in KBts..like wow*

So i guess, after almost a year living in Kepala Batas, Penang, i've come to think of myself as a half Penang, half-Kedah gurl. i can speak in borth dialects, not much difference actually, but still...both are kinda hard to master if you're not used to it..

i still hv trouble though, when ppl ask me,"so where are you from?" What i do? hmm..i just tell em,"Alor Setar and Penang." then they'll be like, huh? isnt alor setar in kedah? then i'll be spilling the story bout how i came to identify myself w these 2 states..hehe..

So, that's it..Now you guys know where i came from..i kinda dont hv a hometown..but still, regardless, how small, how unknown Alor Setar and Kepala Batas are, they are still the best places on earth to me. Coz that's where my heart is : at home :D

So, kesimpulannya: budakkerek orang Alor Setar and Penang. oke? So both gaths i can join heheh...

my home town is Kota Bharu,Kel.

played in flood water almost every raining season since I was a kid. There is no much entertainment like karaoke, disco, big shopping mall etc. at my place ,but I still feel tat its a nice n quiet place to live in.I spend my whole childhood growing up at there...never moved...

Some of the Kelantanese food which I like most is Nasi Dagang(hope I get the name rite here) n Rendang Kerutuk(fabulous!!!)
to those who goes to Kelantan must at least try these two

o yeah forgot to tell my school
haha
I had my education in Chung Hwa kindergarten,Chung Hwa primary school n Chung Hwa secondary school at there.
which means I never changed my school bcoz these three r ...can say combined lar....just the Headmaster of kindergarten, primary n secondary belongs to different ppl
thats y I had quite a number of frenz who studied together since kindergarten or primary until secondary school...miss them so so so much now

but the different is he stays at Taman Ehsan I stay at Desa Jaya, both gardens are just near to each other.
IQing and I studied the same Kindergarten, primary school and secondary school, hehe^^ but he's my senior... as he is older than me :o

I was borned in Hospital Besar Kuala Lumpur, then I stayed at Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur. In front of my house, there is a big greenery field. I used to play at the small playground every evening, uh... what a innocent childhood... no worry no sadness...

When I was 6 years old, my family moved to Desa Jaya. The house at Desa Jaya owned by my father while last time the house at Jinjang was rented by my father. I only started my kindergarden school life at Desa Jaya that year, which means I just have had 1 year pre-school study... uhuh... untill now I still live at Desa Jaya, my house just near the golden mosque in Desa Jaya.

erm... should I say my hometown is Jinjang? hmm... maybe...

However, I am a Kuala Lumpurian? lolz...

Does your hometown have to be the place you grew up in? I've lived in London all my life and although I love it, I never felt connected to it. I don't like the hostility of the people, the constant front and image you have to promote and the fact that you are always competing to live up to someone's expectations.

In Kuantan (rest of Malaysia infact) I find that people judge you less and people from there grow up more open and trusting whereas many of the Londerners have problems with trusting and it's rare to see what a true Londoner is really like.

What's the precise definition of hometown? I was born in JB, raised in Oklahoma, Port Dickson and Batu Pahat. Been moving around a lot during my childhood. But I feel BP is more close to my heart lah...

Batu Pahat... not a very big town. It used to be the second largest town after JB in Johor, but i guess it isn't now. Development has become a bit stagnant. Teenagers usually hang out at The Summit. The most famous icon of the city is the "batu pahat monument" which is located at the "Dataran". Also, there's an imitation Bintang Walk called BP Walk... haha... cannot compare to the real Bintang Walk, but it has made night life a bit more livelier here!

Haha.....I am not from Kuching but I've been to Kuching 3 times in the past 6 months as it's my boyfriend's hometown! Yup it is a nice place indeed - Eh West Malaysian also agree :)

I was born in KL but spent a large part of my childhood in Kota Kinabalu. It's a lovely place and I haven't been back for years!!

Moved to Ipoh when I was 10 and it's no turning back since. I love Ipoh for its small town tranquility (yah I know Ipoh's supposed to be a city according to our textbooks)- the fact that my family is there - the FOOD and OH THE FOOD I COULD GO ON FOREVER - Ipoh hor fun really comes from Ipoh (A friend asked me that can you believe it) - Persanjung and Salam for its excellent mamak food - the various coffee shops that I oh so miss - Indulgence for pure indulgence and I could go on and on - polo ground for us to jog at - my schools there - just my neighbourhood where I wake up in the morning and still see mist from the mountains nearby.

My Singaporean friends came to visit and were equally mesmerised by the fact that you see mountains everywhere you go in Ipoh. :)

And did I mention the food?

Talking about 'Masjid Tanah', its translated as Clay Mosque(?) in English and that name derived from a mosque which was built at this place, with clay being the main material, by an Arab merchant long long ago. The clay was mixed some other stuffs like (putih telur, st like that). How could dat be possible eh, to build a building besides using concrete? I wonder...

But I can see that some have started to call it using a short form
"Mastana"... Huhuhuh... Any people from this place? Hit me!

i know klang has several pretty famous bak kut teh shops, and one of them is called "qiao di" or under the bridge. not because the name of the restaurant is "under the bridge", but it is situated under the brige near the ktm station. the gravy of buk ket teh of this shop is the heaviest! its like drinking herbal concoction/ubat cina!the taste is so rich and the meat is so soft! yummy!

another one is near the kfc restaurant near klang parade.cant recall the name though.it is also near a coffee shop where people go and eat "mei nu mian" or pretty girl's noodles(coz the daughter of the cook is a babe!).this bak kut teh shop offers two kinds of bak kut teh, the dry type and the soup type.the dry type's gravy is extremely thick, its more like sauce rather than soup.the meat tastes a bit sweet and sour, with herbal flavours, of course.delicious!!

i'm not from klang though.haha.

Ipoh Ipoh. Sweet but sometimes boring. When you got no friends in town, memang boring! Not much to do really. I'm a trueblue Ipohian, spent 17 years of my life living in Ipoh. I lived 10 years in Canning Garden then I moved to Ipoh Garden East. But I think I'm a pretty blur Ipohian, a lot of things dunno about my hometown!

Let's see...Ipoh got the famous Beansprout Chicken! nga choy kei! I used to eat that end of the every year after the annual performance my music school put up (Dee Music Studio, who know it?). Mmmm delicious. Comes with hor fun or noodles.

Hey, Ipoh hor fun got like the Singapore Ipoh hor fun meh? We never put mushroom inside, never put those veggie inside. Only thing we got is hor fun and chicken with a few small prawn and coriander(? dunno the english word, is 'chung' in canto). Sauce also tak sama :P I always tell my Singapore friends that the Ipoh hor fun here is localized already.

Hmm Ipoh also got good banana leaf rice! Near the stadium food courts there got one very nice nasi kandar stall. Is quite good and very cheap! I love eating it. Around Ipoh Garden South got a hebat Curry Noodles stall. The taste is syok like anything. Other than that, Ipoh also got good pomelo (hahaha), and overall the food is good and cheap!

Mari mari datang ke Ipoh on an eating holiday  Walaupun tidak sehebat Penang in general, the food still rocks :)

Another from Kuantan~ Let me help to promote Kuantan :p
Kuantan is not a huge city compared to the cities at the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia , but the facilities here are quite complete . It has harbour , beautiful beaches , shopping malls ( there's one just opened --East Coast Mall ) , old streets , sport centres.....Kuantan might not very developed , but it's a lovely place ~
Famous food here -- salted fish , Hoi Yin curry , Hainan chicken rice , seafood at Tanjung Lumpur.....

Firstly, to all ReCommers who have been just about everywhere :) "Home is where the heart is"!!! :D

I'm from Miri. Although called a city, is really still a town. It's good if you want to relax, enjoy nature. Take a trip to Niah towards the South.. or go up North to Mulu Caves. Plenty of interesting food to try, local Sarawak veges, "kolok mee" - try the "mee merah" version, something called scissors kueh, etc etc.. Try some fried "wet" kueh tiaw (my favourite) and top it up with some fresh sugar cane. Lotsa cheap seafood, eat till you drop :P

Lately there's been more international foods - Korean, Japanese, Italian, so you won't be short of choices. Oh yes.. the Sugarbun in Sarawak (which I believe has died off in Semenanjung) is actually pretty good! :) Come over to the 'other side' if you want to have an eating holiday!!

Oh yes, I must emphasize again. We do not live on trees. Thank you! :D

Hey Patient I didn't know you're from Miri too!
Im a former Columban, class of 06, which school were you?
It's good to finally see some of Miri, rather than Kuching, Kuching Kuching all the time. (yes i have some rivalry with kuchingans)

I agree with what you said there, that though Miri reached city status 2 years ago, it's pretty underpopulated to the point of where it wouldn't be wrong to mistake it for a ghost town during some of the lonelier nights. And like every city, of course Miri has its happening places. The hub for clubbing (balcony, cherrie berries) and late night CC's is at the Pelita Commercial Centre Area. But of course im just suggesting them as places to relax and cool off after you're done with all your tours and stuff during the day. Who goes to Miri just to club anyway lolz? And if you are interested in the nightlife and looking for somewhere nearby and affordable to stay look no further. There's the Apple Lodge, a Inn which is directly opposite all the clubs. If you're looking for truly genuine and challenging tours in the Sarawak interior, you can contact http://www.borneojunglesafari.com for more information. Seriously, visit the website!

The shopping in Miri isn't great.
The crocodile farm isn't worth it.
Do visit the Grand Old Lady (the first oil well in Malaysia) and its nearby museum. There are some trekking trails in that area too. Just ask around.
And you should only eat the only-found-in-sarawak food mentioned up there as far as Chinese food is concerned. Attempting to eat the others will end in disappointment. Hardly any indian food here, definitely no banana leaf. And did you know, Miri is home to the commonwealth silver medallist, Watson Nyambek, the Flying Dayak!!! And from my school too hehe. But unfortunately my school is only a shadow of what it used to be....at least during my last year. My junior's SPM batch, their total number of straight A's beat the mega-school in the area. Priceless memory.

From Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. There are nothing much to do in KK, the people there are peaceful and life is usually not as hectic as those in KL.

About KK, well, some of the computer parts are quite cheap here, comparable to most places in West Malaysia except Lowyat. Plus, there is a surge of shopping complexes in KK. All those branded stuff do exist here in KK. In fact, the going to be opened 1 Borneo is the largest shopping complex out of Klang Valley and it is within 5 minutes from my house with a car :) And KK is not ulu like most West Malaysians think. Sure, we may have few apartments here, but we don't stay up trees. Instead, most of us live in terrace houses, banglos, semi-d or atap houses. Since KK have plenty of land, we utilize them fully for our comfort.

As far as food is concern, KK do not have many specialty food but we do have plenty of seafood and you can find food from any other state here in KK. You must go outskirt of the city to find cheaper and fresher seafood.

Best of all, there are no tolls in Sabah. Hahaha.
