We all have special someone in ourlives....
either he or she is a teacher who influence us so much...
or someone who cares a lot for us...
he or she might be our best friends who cheer us up all the time...
no doubt sometimes we are seperated from our special one...
can you please share with us about someone special to you?

I guess there are quite a number of people who will qualify as someone special for me... those that have left meaningful instances in my life, although for some of those, I haven't gotten the chance to say thank you to them.
My parents, for instance, have been spending so much time, trying to make my life as easy as possible. Guess everyone's parents are the same. They have touched my life a lot, in helping to shape my life.
Fu Yu, my girlfriend, she has been instrumental in encouraging me to study hard and have a wider perspective in my life. She is a very optimistic person and have been able to handle any emotional turmoil very well.
Joshua, a Malaysian-turned-Singaporean friend over at Cornell. I was having a hard time learning how to swim, and Joshua motivated me and even took time off his busy schedule to help me with swimming and eventually I managed to get a pass. I contributed that pass to him.
Another one is a Malay Singaporean that I met in Raffles Junior College. I never got to know his name, but he has helped me a lot. I had a tough time in getting to pass NAPHA, which is a physical test, especially in making 13:10 for 2.4km. Although we don't know each other, he helped to pace me when I took my retake of NAPHA test. He kept on shouting at me to go on, and eventually I touched the finishing line at 13:09, and I passed my NAPHA test. It was as if I have reached the finishing line in Olympic.
My physical education teachers at Raffles JC. There are a number of them and especially Mr. Tan, who is a former ASEAN scholar who was captain of 8 sports in RJ, and eventually got his scholarship terminated, due to his full emphasis in sports. He played hockey for Malaysia before I believe. When I took NAPHA test, they kept on supporting me with shouting of "Malaysia Boleh" when I did chin up. They may not be Malaysians, but that spirit has helped me a lot.
Mr. Cheah Thim Tuck, a teacher I had in for Form 2 English and Form 5 History at Jit Sin High School. Although he is nearly 40, he has not married. However, he has played a significant role in my life, from writing my recommendation letter to helped to bring to life during my studies in Jit Sin. He was the teacher-in-charge for my school choral speaking team. He started this when he was an English teacher in Form 2, and he brought the whole class of us for competition. After that, he was assigned to teach History, however, he has been helping out in Choral Speaking for the next 3 years. Once, we wanted to take part in a General Knowledge quiz organized by The Star. He agreed to drive us to KL and back for that competition. He joined our class in playing games etc in school, basically just like a student.
Mr. Ho Weng Kin, who was my form teacher in Raffles Junior College. He is furthering his PhD in UK right now. He has been instrumental in helping to improve my English while I was in RJ, although he was my Math teacher. He had constantly helped to correct my english, and helped commenting on essays I had written. He had written recommendation letter for me too. When I had to leave RJ, I had to pay back the bond to MOE, and guess what, he offered to pay for me first, it is S$10,000 (RM22,000), and he said that I could pay him back any time in future. I did not accept his offer, but his gesture is definitely fantastic!
Mr. Leong Wei Shin, was the Asst. Boarding Master at Morrison, Raffles Institution Boarding School. He is a music teacher at RI, yet he has also helped me a lot in guiding me in the learning of english, especially on comprehension section. It is not part of his job, but he willingly helped me a lot in it.
Jit Sin Teens-Belia, the uniformed body that I have been in for 6 years in Jit Sin. I spent countless hours in it, practically almost every single day in my school holiday over those my high school life. It was meaningful experience for me, as I developed my self confidence in speaking, obeying orders etc. When I first joined Teens-Belia, I was a shy guy. Speaking in front of public was a big problem, but this society has helped to build my confidence, teamwork, leadership skills etc.
Mr. Chin Wei Kang, a classmate in Remove. This was back in 1994. On one day with heavy rain, I was without an umbrella. And as I was walking out of my school, he offered to share the umbrella with me until we reached outside of school. And as my school bus was not yet there, he just passed me his umbrella and dashed towards his bus. I didn't manage to say anything, and he was already wet with the rain. A really selfless action.
There are many more people that have touched my life.... This is just a few examples...

This posting is dedicated to some of the ReComers...
As I am surfing ReCom I have met some wonderful people here...
I am glad to know yin loo (jane). She?s studying Chem Eng in Korea. now we chat regulary in YIM.
ElansarGelmir is another new friend of mine. here?s funny and talkative in the forum and I think we do have something in common, right? spamming the forum? haha
I have found an adventure friend CyberJaya. He?s studying in UK and I hope one day we can fulfil our dream of traveling the whole west europe.
Chenchow is very supportive in this SIG and?I am glad to "work" with him. no doubt from his words he is wise and well learn. indeed he?s a gentleman. It?s interesting to meet such a wonderful malaysian student here. Perhaps we might be future business partner.. who knows? only time.
somehow some of the old active recommers have not been seen often here. Maybe we will reunite again one day.
that?s all for now on the friends I have made in ReCom.
Enjoy!

i would like to record my thanks to iQing for his dedication towards stuff that is his passion and it just struck me some time back, when there was some discussion in the reading and sharing SIQ, I emailed him to ask him to come back to ReCom, and he really made this SIG the most active one. A very energetic guy.
To all ReComers that I am able to interact with (chat on ICQ, email, ReCom IM etc), more than 100 I believe, I really thanks your company and hopefully we can all make ReCom a much better place~!

I would talk about someone special that I have talked when he is not on earth.
Ed Lu - Nasa Astronaut, when he was 240 miles (nearly 400km from Earth) in September 2003 and I would be seeing him in 2 days' time face-to-face on my campus, when he would be coming to talk about his experience at International Space Station.
The photo of me in the picture when we tried to connect to him.

It was such a great experience hearing Ed Lu, replied to my question, from space... A great inspiration!

yeah, it seems so mystical. To those who haven't started reading The Little Prince or halfway through, please read it and we can discuss it the Reading and Sharing SIG.
He is an alumni from Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of my university 20 years ago. He is an Asian American. I would definitely type out his talk at the Knowledge Shared From Public Lecture thread on this Friday. To hear his answer from space and the questions we get to ask, go to:-

I believe in love at first sigh.
My first love and I fell in love with each other when we were practising wushu in Bukit Jalil. She was also my sports idol. We became very close friends before we confess our feelings for each other. We enjoy sharing our laughther, comfort, warm words and happy moments togather. We share intimate secrets and we whisper to each other.
Now time and distance have separated us far apart but she's always in my heart. I gain the confidence and strength to face my life from her. I know I will triump because there's a woman who always support me in my life. I miss her very much.
If I have a magic wish, I would want her to marry a man who can give her true happiness in her life... and I know, that man isn't me. For love, I let her go....

The people i cherish most in life are definitely my parents. It was them who sprouted my love for piano, classical music and reading. They , unlike other parents, have never "controlled" me. Instead, they have always thought me to be an independant self-starter. I know its difficult for them to have a kid like me who is terribly weird and eccentric and I appreciate all the care they've lavished on unworthy me : the books, music instruments, classes and especially all their advice. I truly love them. They've made me a hard, unspoilt, competitive and independant person who has backbone.= )
My sisters Danielle and Dezri who are my best friends. Sure, they do get in my way occasionally but otherwise, they're a bunch of fun n laughter. Dezri's the one who always gets told "Go be a model". She's tired of it.*laughs*. Danielle has cockscrew curls. Cool, huh?
Kaoru Miyamoto , my best friend since 5 years ago. She's a gem and a genius, ever optimistic and ebullient no matter what. She introduced me to L'Arc and for tht, I'll never forgive her. Our relationship is truly special , one I'll treasure forever. Other friends... my tennis "kaki"s Ee Zhiong, Yao Chang, Adrian, Siew Lynn and Dezri ; classmates Sheh Nee, Chieh Hsin, Emeri, Foong, Cai Yun ... you guys make me laugh non stop ; my students, Karen, Teresa, Kuan Kiat and Dan, those who test my sanity...the list goes on.
Then , there's Professor H.F.Chin , agriculture dept. UPM who is my frequent lunch partner, semi-mentor and friend who is always is there for chats about literature, music and life. I always have fond memories of our conversations. My ex-piano teacher, Lee Chye Jing whom I admire a lot. She developed my technique and broadened my viewpoint.I am touched by her dedication and care.
I'm still new at recom but I dont doubt tht fellow recommers will have effect on my life , in some way or another. I'm inspired by Chen Chow's success and also taken in by the friendliness of other recommers. As our friendship develops, I'm sure it'll reform me and benefit both sides.
The person I look up to musically, EC. I truly envy your carefree attitude and talent. Every one loves you 'cos you're crazy and you're so gifted. Glad tht it didnt puff you up. I have no doubt tht you're running after the pretty Aussie ladies now.*laughs*
Lastly... it has been God. I always think ppl are delusioned when they think I attained success by my own human endeavour. To me, I've never really worked hard. It's always been God's grace and mercy on me.
Without all of them, life would certainly be not worth living. I use this chance to say how much you all mean to me. I love you guys and I wouldn't want to be alive without any of you.

Wah, reading this, remind me of my godbrother (he sure reads this as well)...cause he likes to send me smiley faces on whatever I tell him. He said that is his trademark. Wonder what's so amusing about what I said. But he does make me feel that I'm someoen special, and someone different. Haha, although i like to bug him, seem like a nuisance to him, but he still thinks I'm someone adorable and charming  (*blink blink*)...

Ok, now is my turn to talk about someone special, or those people who are special in my life so far...eh...21 years...living on this earth.
Parents, of course, are special and most important, so, I won't mention here.
First of all, is Mrs Lee. She's a great tuition teacher. She's the one who inspires me to learn English, she's the one who stimulates my interest in English. She's a housewife, but she possesses a degree in Nutrition from university in Canada. I started the tuition with her since Form 2. That time I was rather lazy to submit essays assigned by her. Each time she would explain and discuss with me about the essay topics, provide useful phrases and proverbs to be used in the essays. There was once, I "owed" her too many essays, hence she said, "Wah, never thought you are this lazy to write essays." From that sentence, I felt so ashamed of myself, so in the next tuition I submitted all the overdue essays, and I even took my initiative to send her essays during school holidays. Although she always goes on vacation during holidays, but she is very pleased with my intiative. I would drop my essay in her mailbox and she always takes less than 2 days to correct it for me. From that moment on, my English has improved tremendously and since then I love English so much. Too bad, her husband has to transfer to TAR college. FYI, her husband is a lecturer, teaching architecture. Hence, the whole family moved to KL when I was in Form 5. Before she left, she even recommended another English teacher to me. I always miss her and I always feel grateful towards her teaching and kindness.
So far, she's the only person that is special to me, other than my family that I can think of. Shall continue later...

a best friend since standard one
She was my best friend but not now ever. We were so close but not now... We were classmates when standard one and two, she lived near my house, so we always played together and went to school together. Although we studied in the different classes after that, but we got closer and closer. However, I realised that friend can influence someone deeply. I don't mean my influence on her but her bad friend's. She become bad and having bad habits. One day, in the bus ( we taking the same bus to school when secondary ), I sat beside her as usual, (if not mistaken, we were studying form 3, near PMR) I talked to her but she didn't say anything to me, kinda ignoring me, so i thought she was in bad mood and didn't want to disturb her. But unfortunately, she didn't speak to me anymore after then, and i got angry so i didn't want to talk to her also. The situation remained the same until now... for few years we didn't contact and talk to each other. But I knew that she being 'buang sekolah' and married when in form 4. That really surprised me and I felt dissapointed too. She married because having baby that time. What a pity to marry at so early time and... no more bright future to her...
Until now, I really regret that I can't help her to being good. She chose the wrong way, haiz... sometimes I blame myself of not helping her. Once in a while in primary school, she become bad also, but then I try to invite her to be with my friends and she turn good and willing to study hard. The second time, I didn't try my best to bring back her. Now .. I dont' contact her and didn't know her lately news.. =.='

Mmm, what a story leng_cyl. Yea, friends do play a vital part in our life. Definitely at all times, we hope to be of good influences for friends, and vice-versa. On the other hand, there are times, where we acquiesce in their foot steps, though we know that is wrong, as we just don't want to be eliminated from the circle of being friends with them. Well, that's when our intelligence and rationa thinkings set in and get into function. Albeit it's disheartening to have learnt that your best friend has deviated from the "good" path, but I'm sure no matter how you'll always wish for the best for her....

Someone Special....
Being special people in my life are my parents, my little sister, a few of my teachers whom guide me all these years and my few close friends...
Being only 17 this year...a special person is still a long search :?
But, these 5 years in secondary school, i found a friend, a special friend.
She's 18 this year, going through her NS stinct and will be coming back soon. I hope the day arrives faster, i miss her so much.
This person, she's a jovial, happy-go-lucky person. Seldom you can see her sad or cry, well unless she's very upset. She's an optimistic person...always look at the bright side of life.
Cute she was and always will be. Funny too sometimes and a caring person. She brought sunshine to my life...
Being an introvert person myself, this person has somehow cultivate me to become an extrovert. Now, i have a larger circle of friends and all thanks to her...
But somehow, i felt guilty sometimes as i have already dissapointed her a few times. :(
As it may be true, i have a heart for this particular person. A tinge of feeling that I haven't encountered in my life which i yet to understand... *sigh* and yes, my progress has been rejected a few times. :(
Well, this person's coming back soon and I'm looking forward to that day. Really wish to see her again..... :D

I think special someone, more deemed to someone that has left a great impact on you, or someone that just meant so unique to you, and your life has been different without him/her. This specia someone definitely not easy to come by, else....no longer the word "special" is needed.....

Pei Wen was right.... :D
Someone special, well, is very hard to come by....
You can consider someone special if he or she has a deep impact on your life....maybe your life will take a different course without the particular person. :?
A special person is also unique on its own way....different from other people and you might tend to treat the person well without you knowing it. Or maybe you give more attention to the person...
A special person is a person that really might change your life totally..... :D
Hmm........i really don't know how to describe more. :?
You'll know someday when you stumble across a special person... :D

Another one...A girl I used to like back in Form 1 till Form 5....she taught me a lot of things too...I've changed a lot because of her.
Sadly, since I came to the UK, I can hardly keep in touch with them. :(

I've noticed that, when any of my friends who have had a bf/gf, the relationships with them tend to fall apart somehow. Or perhaps the closeness is no longer that intense. For an example, although my best friend and I, the one I've known for almost 18 years, we used to be very cose and so good together but ever since she has a bf, the relationship with her is just not the same as before. Of course not until the extent that we're no longer close, but what I'm trying to say is, I do have the concerns that, bf is important to her, and I have to understand that she can't be there for me most of the time if compared to last time. Definitley I'm glad and happy that she has found her happiness and having a great guy to take care of her. What I'm sharing here is just the difference in the relationships with majority of my friends who have had a relationship. One thing for sure, they always see their partners more important than friends....I bet I'll reserve more priorities for my partner before my friends as well...LOL

Perhaps that's what a human looks like...
Tend to give more attention to a special person, eg boyfriend or girlfriend, than to their normal friends.
Same thing applies to me too.... :o
I have a friend, who have a girlfriend after the SPM...and yah, after that he seldom go out with us. If there is also, the girl will surely follow along. Hah....sometimes we seldom talk to him also. :?
But something went wrong....and he came back to all of us, his normal friends. Thank god... :D
I bet it won't last long tough.... :P

Mmm, that's what friends are for..........
Good friends, and who are really sincere in being your friends are really hard to come by, so do identify and cherish those friends!

As a friend, you should also understand that it's difficult to spend time with both friends and girlfriend/ boyfriend. Like for nicodemus, in your friend's case...try putting urself in his shoes. Do you have so much free time when you have a gf? Of course, you shouldnt ignore your friends completely....but I have to say that you still need to spend more time with your gf...
I used to feel sad about this....after most of my friends got themselves a partner....but try looking from their perspective. kay?

sometimes i feel its a funny scenario when u r attached. as for me i will try my best to have equal time with my gf or guy friends. i don't think by keeping your guy friends aside when u got yaself a gf is a good idea as your guy friends are the one who are always there during your down & ups, and they are there earlier than most of the gfs. gfs (as the status g.f says) have possibility of breaking up with us whereas guy friends had a higher possibility of staying (and be there most of the times).
i think providing enough space to accomodate both is the best cos i cant afford to lose my guy friends. i hope my future gf understand this as guys gotta have space n time for their species too.
in the mean time, i will just enjoy my single life to the fullest until i get attached again some other time.

Agree with you, astrosurge!!
We should allocate equal time to both the girlfriend and our normal guy friends.
And yah, our normal everyday friends are always the one that comes to us when we have troubles instead of our girlfriends. Well, true for some cases. Those who doesn't agree , please don't be angry. Just my 2 cents.... :D
But i must agree that equal time to both friends is vital if one wants to save their friendship instead of losing either one. Most people, guys or girls, tend to give to much attention to one side till they lose the other side of their friends... :? Always true..... :?:
And the friends also must understand.....the girlfriend should understand the boyfriends needs and the guys friends should also understand the guys needs towards his girlfriend...
Am i right? just my humble opinion.....

someone special..... now i can only think of that 'someone' who is virtually so so so important to me..... we were introduced to each other 3 years ago, since then we've been keeping in contact with emails until a year ago, started to chat a lot over the net..... had been spending countless midnites in net sharing our lives, our thoughts, problems, even political issues.... his wisdom, his knowledge, his intelligence, his tolerant, his kindness ..... all made me so deeply infatuated with him!! Spending time with someone intellectual like him made me a wiser person and his thoughts often enlighten me.....how i wish i can just fall in love with him
sometimes i might think that am i too silly to have an infatuation with someone whom i never met before?? we just deal with each other over the net..... although we just live within a mere kilometer away from each other, too bad we never even bumped into each other..... i dont know this netfriendship gonna last for how much longer... but i truly wish he can always be there for me whenever i need him... after all he's someone indeed special in my life~ and so... i'm grateful forever...

Why not arrange a meeting with him if you want to meet him?
Sometimes, these relationship over the internet is a lot different than in real life. Some people can express themselves better on the internet, some can not.
Maybe, after meeting him, the relationship between you and him may change. Maybe being more than just friends, maybe being worse than now. Nobody knows. But isn't life is all about taking risks? Good luck!

we both wanted to meet each other... but then we fear that things might change after the meeting... as u said... we might become better friends in real life (if lucky enough), or just *habis cerita*.... for me... i really dont dare to take the risk.... coz... i might risk losing a netfriend who is so important to me...
anyways, after knowing him for 3 years.... got his 1st sms 2 days ago (was excited like mad  ) asking me when i would leave for my studies and asked me out to have some coffee~ I dint reply.. i dunno wat to reply.... then last nite, got his call.... again... i dint answer... ... i really fear..... am i living in denial?? :?

That's a bit over the top, isn't it? Well, I don't have much experience but maybe going out for a coffee ain't too much? :)
For me, there are many people who have influenced me greatly. One of them is my dear only elder brother. We get along very well, almost never fight. In fact the last time I remember us arguing was about ten years back when we were kids over some stupid incident. He has always been the carer, and I've tried to reciprocate. He's very patient, kind and spoils me terribly. Even when he left for ASEAN when he was 17, everytime he came back he would buy a book for me, knowing i loved to read. Then, he would always bring me(the mouse who likes to stick to home) around with his friends. I feel like there's nothing to worry about when he's around and we always hold hands when we go out and have fun(Which his best friend Mean Yeit says will render my brother a bachelor as long as that happens..what do you guys think?)
Mean Yeit has also influenced me a lot, primarily in terms of academic and critical thinking. he was the one who instigated  me to apply to stanford and dare to dream big and not be afraid of obstacles. Maybe its because we think rather similar and are quite kiasu? He's like a another big brother to me, and I love talking to him, as both of us are chatterboxes. Plus I enjoy the food and desserts he gives out at his home, its delicious!
Another is my close friend Cheah Foo, which is kindof odd that we hit off well actually. We're completely opposites in terms of habits and characters. But his influence is mainly on my character. He taught me a lot of things, including staying calm (he's as calm as a rock at any time, if rocks are calm) and learning to be more mature. Plus, I know he's there to help me if i'm in trouble, even though we don't see each other much now although we're in the same university same couse(primarily becos both of us skipp all our lectures).
Of course, there are many many other people like CC etc who have made a significant difference in my life..but another time lah, I've got to go off now. :D

C'mon, if he's that good as you paint him, he'll take you for what you are and your nice character, rather than your physical appearance.

salyeo, actually, I was in the same situation with u, almost the same I can say.
erm... through an online game (ragnarok online), I'd got to know him, until now.. I've known him for more than half year already..
remember first time he asked me to give him my phone number, don't know why I trusted him so much and gave him, he called me and chat .... as we both are almost the same type of people ( talkative and 3 8 ), we can chat on the phone for quite a long time although it's only the first time.
then for about two months we seldom contact, he's like very busy, didn't online or call me either. That time I was sitting spm exam too, in the online game, we were couple (only in the game). After the exam, erm... then we played the game together always. And on the Christmas Day, we married in the game (the online game provides marry system and divorce system and after marry, the couple can get extra useful skill), but then divorced after few weeks. =.=" for some reason. Although I know it's only a game, but don't know why, maybe I was infatuated with him too...
haiz...
before the divorced, he called me once in two or three days; then after the divorced, he didn't call me or reply me on msn, kinda avoiding me; but then after a week, we started to chat more on msn and then on the phone, everytime can chat for few hours 8O
and almost everything we talked about, like school life, life matter, friendship, computer, songs, interest, family, games, etc....
He's the only guy that chat with me on the phone ...
Maybe you will say that he's trying to cheat me or .... , anyhow, he told me all about his thing, life or... without any cheat.. I know him well (I know two of his best friend who are his house mate too), and know his all bad habits, like smoking, lazy, flirting maybe, flower hearted coz he got many gf,etc...
Besides, we'd met each other for twice, first time was when we went to the RO carnival(the online game special event) held at Midvalley and second time was when I went shopping with my best friends, he came along as he was free. After the meet, we still act the same like before, nothing special changed, coz we are friends. Ah, forgot to say that he's four years older than me.
In his handphone bill, almost half of 1/3 of it was the call to me. More than chatting with his gf... hmm... Does it indicate something?
Although he said he sees me as good gal friend, maybe like sister? But.. I really infatuated with him. But I am very clear what I am doing right now, the most important thing for me now is to study hard especially to pass through my coming form 6 life, therefore I won't think so much :D friends..hope we can be best friends forever too
However, he's someone special in my life. I didn't regret to play this online game although it affected my form 5 study as I'd got to know many true friends from it other than HIM. Frankly, the friends knew from online game are better than those knew in ICQ (for me), most of them act as in real life most of the time in the game. But of coz there are many cheaters too, and this online game is actually reflecting the real life too.

many thanks to my parents..especially my mum..if it wasn't for her being firm about not stopping piano lessons..i wouldn't have gotten a diploma certificate at the age of 15..even now after completing piano, im learning flute and guitar...as my passion for music is even deeper..
about a *special* someone..i guess it'll come by someday..=P ..hehe..just let nature take it's cause...
if we're talking about people who have made impacts in our lives...
my grandfather, who led me to God through his death. he brought me to salvation.
my mother, who made me grow up too fast for my own good by telling me how she was forced to do the same when she was my age.
my father, who's not the disney model father, but who obviously loves me very very much, and that's all i need to know to sustain myself.
my best pals june, sun and mun, who were, and still are, there for me every step of the way.
my friend who told me to keep writing because good writers write all the time, so when they get inspiration or when the muse comes knocking, their writing will be especially good.
my teacher mentor in sajc, ms wong, who prayed for me at the flagpole in my college during the worst of times, who wrote little notes of encouragement for me and who congratulated me first when i received my result slip.
my general paper tutor, ms lee, who's the first person to really encourage me to pursue writing as a career. i didn't listen to her, but she made me see that i was actually pretty good. haha.
my primary school std 5 class teacher, cik surinder, who taught girls how to be women.
and most of all...
God, who has changed my life forever.
