Hi. I've been browsing through the threads and so far, I've yet to see a thread on scottish medical universities. Well, I've just been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh to read medicine and am comtemplating whether to accept the offer or to choose English universities instead. I've heard that Scottish medical schools have got quite a reputation(some even claim they're on par with oxbridge) but the high costs of living there (again, some say it's like london when you live in Edin) are quite a deterrent. Will any ReCommers who've studied or know of anyone studying at Edinburgh or any Scottish university share their opinions about life at Edinburgh and the medical programme at Scottish medical schools? Thanks in advance.

..im of the impression that malaysians think that edinburgh is the best medical school on the planet..haha..i think most schools in the uk are regulated by the GMC..hence they are all of some standard..i shall not say more..because some ppl in this forum might get pissed.

That's why I'm wondering if edinburgh is as good as oxbridge. Is it only top to Malaysians? But then again, how do you compare between oxbridge and edinburgh? From what i gather, oxbridge's research-oriented and edinburgh's more committed to producing doctors that treat patients. So, is edinburgh really as good as it sounds? Bristol looks really lovely and i might very well end up in bristol if i get an offer. But again, I'm divided. Is edinburgh any better than bristol or nottingham or any other english medical school? And duke23, don't hesitate to voice your thoughts here:) In fact, it'd be nice to know what you think. After all, it is a discussion.

of course its not as good as oxbridge...haha..at best i think its on part with the other med schools but oxbridge is in its own league.I wouldnt scratch my head thinking about it..just go where your heart tells you to...at the end of the day u are going to have a medical degree...where u get it from doesnt quite matter..a degree from edinburgh isnt any superior when compared to a degree from another medical school in the UK...

duke23 has more or less summed up what I'd like to say. BTW, sue, I'm currently studying at Bristol Uni so just PM me if you need any info regarding the course structure here/anything about Brizzie.

Cheers.
