Can someone tell me what's the difference between foundation, A-level and diploma?
I've just got my SPM result so how many paths are there I can go? I know I can either go for STPM or diploma... I've heard that many don't recommend diploma but I don't understand why so can someone please explain? Besides STPM and diploma, what other levels I can go before I go for Degree?
I'm kindda confused with all those things. Thank you for your time to give some advice.

Foundation normally comes wif the course that u r pursuing in degree year, it is actually very similar to A level. The difference is just that you study more specific about the subject that u r going to study in degree year.
A level is more to like STPM where u study bio, chem, phy, maths those and then only you choose wat field u r going to study when u r about to enroll in Universities.
For diploma, it is just something a level below degree if i am not mistaken. But my advice is its better for u to go for a degree rather than diploma.
There are ausmat...sam matriculation...matriculation...
Hope it helps ^^

I think u shud think of wat is ur interest first before u ask this. If you have a great interest to pursue, I will recommend u to foundation because u can save time.Or else, you can choose to do A level or STPM.About diploma, the great thing about diploma is u can work after getting diploma, but you still haven gt the degree yet.You can pursue your degree afterwards, but it just simply wastes time la...

A degree is anyhow more valuable than diploma. People wil hire you if you got your degree rather than diploma.

Yeah, that cleared my confusion. Thanks!
From your message, I think I should go for foundation because I already know what I want. I wish to be a chemist so I think I should study chemistry right?
Erm, any idea how and where to apply for Chemistry (foundation) then? I'm applying for JPA, and for the course section, I'm having doubt whether to choose sains or kejuruteraan... I know Chemistry is under sains and hence I should choose sains but I'm in doubt cause by just the name "Sains", it sounded a bit too general so I don't dare to choose that. I mean what if by choosing sains actually means studying Genaral Sains, instead of studying Pure Chemistry in details? I hope you get what I'm trying to say.:oh So in your(anyone who wish to answer) opinion, do you think (base on my interest), I should choose sains or kejuruteraan? If kejuruteraan, well I'm hoping to get chemical engineering......
Thanks again for your time to read and explain to me. Thank you.

There is something I need to clarify though. Yes, foundation is for people who have decided WHAT they want to do, but they also need to have decided WHERE they want to do it. If you do a Foundation in say, Engineering in College X, you're stuck to do that corresponding degree program in College X. I don't think any other place will accept your foundation qualification for entry in their degree courses, and even if they do allow you, it's probably relatively rare.
This is only speaking for local private unis; your chances of going overseas with a foundation qualification which isn't internationally recognized are almost zero. Unless, of course, you are going to the US, where they only care about your SPM results and not pre-university.

Usually ppl who take up foundation courses r the ones who were offered scholarship rite? Normally if non scholar holders they wil go for A levels, stpm, ausmat or sam matriculation rite?

o_O On the contrary, I thought the stereotype was the other way round? Khazanah, Bank Negara and JPA all send their scholars to do the common pre-university courses. Usually foundation programs are taken by students who have the liberty to choose their next pre-uni step, so to speak.
Unless, of course, if by "scholarship" you meant a tuition fee waiver from the college itself due to good SPM results, etc.

if u think u can handle the tougher A lvl, A lvl will always be the better choice..it give you much more opportunities than diploma..unless u have made up ur mind to do courses such as accounting..go for a foundation instead..my 2 cents..

Well, we do need more information here to be able to provide you with better advice. Is there any reason why he wants you to do a diploma? A diploma in what? Engineering? Computer Science?
What about you? What kind of degree do you intend to walk out with? Have you decided the field you'd like to pursue?

After SPM, you have a few paths which u can chose and this is the arrangement for the level of difficulty for me :
(1) STPM
(2) A Levels
(3) Matrix
(4) Other pre-us(like SAM, AUSMAT, ICPU etc.)
This is what I think-at least. But given a chance, I reckon u chose A levels because it is one of the most recognisable and well-known exam boards in the world. You can particularly apply to go anywhere you want to if u take A levels. UK,US,Ireland,Australia,Canada.. Anywhere!! So.. A levels will be my choice.

Basically, A-level is just one of the many type of pre-u course, it's quite popular and students taking it normally will take 3 or 4 subjects( u can take more of course, if u want). There are two types of A-level, namely Cambridge A-level and Modular A-level. Both are internationally recognised (not recognised by our IPTA).
But isn't that STPM is recognized oversea as well?
Yes, it is.

Yeap. STPM is harder. So, if you want an easier way out-but more costly- take a levels. If u want a cheaper option take STPM.

hey there, i have just finished my SPM now and i'm wondering what should i do if i failed in securing any scholarship after my result came out in March this year? I'm thinking of A Level now but don't really know which college is the best for A Level classes, and i heard a lot about Taylor, Inti, Sunway and a lot more... but most of them are just far too expensive and i just don't have that size of cash in my pocket. Yesterday i went to the education fair in Mid Valley and found out that Methodist College KL, ATC, KBU, and Brickfield College offer A Level at quite a reasonable price and there are even 100% tuition waiver for those students with 9As or 10As in SPM actual result. However, i'm wondering that why there are colleges offer A Level at lower price while some are offering it at sky high price such as Taylor, Sunway, Inti, Kdu and many more??? Is it the lecturers and environment there are not that good or what??? Hope someone would help to clarify it and thanks in advance. :)

Can anyone tell me what's the good and bad of STPM and A-Level? Which one should I choose? I currently registered for Tarc's A-level (science), But I'm still in a dilemma whether I should choose STPM or not as it provide me chances to enter public u which is not so pricey..
