Yes, yes, yes I'm going to ask any questions regarding form6. And before you reply, make sure you have answer all my questions here. TY.

1. When is the intake for form6. I know diff schools have diff intakes. Just tell me roughly when is it.

2. Does colleges have this kind of form6 stuffs? I heard from someone TARC has STPM. weird..

3. I wanna to know more about the CGPA thing. What is that. Why do people said 4As CGPA is better than 4As and 1A- (5As here, but why CGPA lower?)

4. How many subjects do a form6 student has to take.

5.I saw the list of subjects about 20 of them...we hv to pick only 4 or 5 right. Which is?

6. If I were to study engineering, do I have to take further Maths?

7. MUET. It's an English Test. I know it's compulsory. i need to know more about this in detail. pls summarize if you can. TY

8. Biomedical Engineering had caught my attention earlier and i think I understand regarding the course. I'm planning to go form6, but what sub shud I take for sciences? As in chem n phy or biology and chemistry? Or all the sciences? Oh my, that must be crazy...

9. Any recommendations on reference books and exercise books? Roughly how many should I get?

10. Any recommendations on any tuitions near butterworth / seb jaya. ?

11. Any recommendations on any gd schools in Penang?

12. Do you believe in entering a good school will have good teachers to guide you and you will end up with good grades?

Take your time to answer all this. You can answer half of it first. Sorry for such long post. Take ur time. Thanks.v

Take your time to answer all this. You can answer half of it first. Sorry for such long post. Take ur time. Thanks.v

1. The official intake is in May. Some schools jump the gun and hold Form 6 classes before the official date, Sacred Heart Sibu for example. These schools start their classes in January.

2. I think TARC students are private candidates. It was mentioned somewhere in ReCom.

3. Grades are converted into CGPA. A = 4.00, A- = 3.?? it gets less and less until F = 0.00. Your overall CGPA is taken on the average of your 4 best subjects INCLUDING Pengajian Am. The minimum grade of pass is C = 2.00. Anything less is a subsidiary pass, and an F is a fail.

4. Most schools structure their classes to accomodate 4 subjects and MUET. Check with your school if you want to do 5 subjects. Some schools offer, some schools don't. Like my school, I had no physics lessons, I only skipped classes to do experiments.

5. On paper, you can pick any 5 INCLUDING Pengajian Am. But most schools will stream you and package the subjects neatly for you.

6. Further Maths is required to apply for Mathematics course in Cambridge. They would also like you to have Further Maths if you apply Engineering. For local universities, no. Further Maths is not required.

7. MUET is almost like IELTS, but a somewhat scaled down version. Basically, there are 4 sections: writing, reading, listening and speaking. Writing = essays, reading = MCQ, listeninig = question papers with blanks to fill and speaking = speaking in groups of 4, there's an individual section and a group section.

8. I think Physics and Maths is a definite must have for any course with the words 'engineering' in it. That said I am not quite sure. I can tell you Swinburne Sarawak requires Physics OR Maths for Biotechnology.

9. Your teachers will tell you what books they want to use in class. There are no textbooks for Form 6 so nobody has any idea what MPM actually wants. Nonetheless, the references on the market are fairly sufficient reading to get a good grade.

10 and 11, I cannot help you. Never even been there XD.

12. Its a bit of a dilemma actually. Going to a not so famous school means you'll have many opportunities in terms of presidencies, posts in the prefects board, school magazine etc. These can pull up your extracurricular marks quite a bit. Going to a famous school means these opportunities are quite limited unless you're willing to contest hard. Famous schools usually have more experienced teachers. That doesn't mean non famous schools don't, though. It all boils down to you.

Hello..I'll be repeating some of the answers given earlier but here you go:

1. Form 6 intake for all schools in Malaysia will commence mid-May. If not mistaken, should be 18th May this year.

2. Yup, I think I mentioned it in this forum. I'm a TARC form 6 student. Many people aren't aware of this. We are considered private candidates so, we have to pay the exam fees. I gov schools it's free. Nevertheless, it's worth the while because in exchange, we get dedicated lecturers + a taste of college life! =)

3. 4 As is better than 4 As and 1 A- if and only if the A- is for Pengajian Am. PA is a compulsory inclusion in the calculation of CGPA. If you obtain an A for PA, take another 3 best subj to calculate your CGPA.(A is 4.00, A- is 3.67, minus 0.33 for each grade)

4. Minimum 4, maximum 5. PA is compulsory. Some schools only allow 4.

5. Pick 4 or 5 subjects based on the stream you are in.
Pure Science - PA, Maths T, Chem, Phy/Bio; if you are ambitious, take all 3 sciences! =P

6. Not necessarily. Most schools don't have this option. Students have to self-study or attend private tuition for Further Maths.

7. MUET
Paper 1-Listening (15 %)
Answer objective and structure questions based on the recording you hear.

Paper 2- Speaking (15 %)
Individual and group discussion on any random topics. (Refer past years)

Paper 3-Reading/comprehension (40 %)
45 objective questions

Paper 4-Writing (30 %)
Q1-Stimulated Writing
Q2-Extended Writing

8. Any of the combination of sciences is acceptable. You can double-check the requirement of the course if you have a uni in mind.

9. Depends on your school. No fixed text books for form 6.

10. No idea..not a Penangite.. =)

11. Chung Ling High School, Butterworth is most famous for form 6. They produced the most 4As scorers in STPM 2008.

12. Well..form 6 is alot on self-study. No doubt it's good if you enter a reputable school coz you get to mix with the right company and can confide in realiable teachers. Remember that hard work and consistency pays in form 6!

Hope this helps..Good Luck!! ^^

Thank you all of you for spending your time on replying so many questions I've asked. really appreciate what you've done here.

Now, I've a better understand on form6. Haha. Thanks a lot.

And I didnt know there's no textbooks for form6. So we have to get lots of reference books ( at least 3? ) Haha. I saw from one recommers he used more than 4 books for further maths. That's a lot. haha.

Gosh, I've decided to give it a try in IBM. Not sure whether it's really good or not. Well, I'm glad all of you did explain to me in detail.

I'll be off studying next week, ^^
Goodbye!

many local university offer this course, just see whether u have the luck to be selected in this course, because when u apply for university, u hav to give 8 selection. it really depends on luck.

sorry because i did not answer ur question above, i think u have already get the explanation from them, i hope this thread can be continue for form 6 discussion.
