Children are so innocent...
as an adult we have been through our lives as children...
we have done so many funny things when we are young...
we are so engross with toys and cartoons...
we meet some of the most intesting friends in Life (we might have lost them by now)
no exam, no burden, lots of cries...
scenes of kampong, fruit trees and padi field ripple through our mind whenever we think of our childhood....
Can you please share your beautiful years as a child with us?

When I was young I always like to see Doraemon and Old Master Q (lao fu zhi) comics... whenever my mother go to pasar I would want her to buy one for me...
Of course I wont understand the words written in the comic... pictures were enought for me at the time....
that was my childhood prettiest reading material...
I might be a bit shy to confess that I still love Doraemon and Old Master Q ... it has been deeply rooted in my childhood life
but now I also like Final Fantasy... my taste change I guess...

I was an avid fan of Ninja Turtles, Doraemon, and Pokemon. But when i was in primary schools, when my peers spent their time either going for extra tuition classes or played football in the field, i spent most of my evenings watching cartoons. Heck, give me any cartoons and i would watched it. Sometimes, i even watched 2 channels at the same time (switched channels during advertisements).

this reminds me of myself too... I was willing to skip kelas for Cartoons...
somehow the local kartoons like keluang man was damm bosan... the problem with local cartoons was that the mouth movement of the cartoon charactor can?t match its voice at all... hehe
i think after the showing of keluang man I watch cartoon less...
in my teenage years PC games dominate my life... I really engross myself with final fantasy 7
yeah... when I was young sometimes I imagine the world like in Cartoon.... Thinking that I am like the Hero....
I remember when I am about 4 years old I was very short... I can?t reach even the doorknob...
I had a hobby, which is squeezing into a small box... it?s hard for us to imagine how easy a small box can allow us to squeez into...
it?s fun moving in and out of small object when our body is still tiny...

when i was young, i spent most of the time in my grandparents' house in a little lovely kampung, Permatang Kelling, bordering Penang and Perak.
It was nice experience, with lots of coconut trees behind the house, river in front, where we caught a lot of fish using nets in the drain...not even river...those little little fish...always sneak out from the attention of my grandparents...until my father came back from work at 5pm... I spent a lot of time playing guli, those "fei ji ge" (boxes of plane - direct translational from mandarin - the game where you use a leg to jump into boxes and pick up your marker and you can move forward.), Super Mario etc...
I helped my grandfather "manning" his sundry shop... i should say help out, but i guess my grandfather would be better off without my help, as i dropped countless of eggs over those few years there, I accidentally poured over the plastic for minyak tanah etc... eating twistee, mamee, ice cream etc...
those were the time before i was 6 years' old...nice and easy...

Back in my primary school, i was fit for the Doraemon's role. Hehe.... Round and chubby. I was once made Santa Claus in my church for Christmas party. Was a big hit back then. LOL! (later, i felt foolish of being proud of being round and fat). Now, my mom keep telling me how thin and ugly i look, and she missed those fat times of mine (YUX! what's she thinking? I'm proud of the quite ok figure of mine after 1 year of hard diet and keep fitting schedule in Form 1).

same as me! I was round and chubby when I was young . and I was botak until the end of form 3... it?s embarassing for me... maybe this makes me a bully subject in school... lol
by the way, I heard chenchow?s nickname is doraemon... is this true? I never know some people like you don?t mind to call yourself doraemon.. .. it?s funny... haha

Junk FOod and tikam are part of my primary school life..
in the canteen we can buy lotsa colourful junkfood, toys, mee soup and fry chicken.
those colourful toys were so attractive that I have collected them a lot.... esp the dino stickers and bookmarks by twisties (standard 5)
most of my toys have been thrown away by my mum.... too bad
I always ask my parents to buy me Ding Dang, Tora and Jojo..
Ding dang (doraemon again) toy is the smallest follow by tora and Jojo....
these toys have made a lot of commercials on TV but nowadays I never see them again... maybe they fade togather with my childhood years...
after that there?s dragon ball shining card collection... at that time there weren?t pokemon yet
anyone of you still like to play ding dang and tora (not me!) ?

Uhmm... i can't afford those kiddy luxuries when i was small. What to do? Pocket money was like about 60 - 80 cents a day. One tora costed RM1. And my parents don't buy soft toys. Maybe they were trying to save money for me and my sibbling's education. Hmm... so until today (though i dun play them anymore), i still like to see soft toys display sets in the mall. Something i kept doing since young.
Hmm... Oh yeah, i spent my childhood doing something i didn't enjoy - playing the piano. Dunno why that time i despised the piano too much. Maybe because have to sit down and practise and practise for hours. Hehe.... I can't even sit down on the piano chair and practise for 30 minutes! Really wasted my parents money only. Now, after i have quitted learning piano (i.e. taking the exams), i began to like it. But not playing from scores. Rather, playing it from what i listen....
P.S. iQing, long enough boh?

I remember when I was young Jacky Cheung and the other heavenly kings are popular.. so is stephen chow.
now the HK artists are so different and the music in this era is so different from the past...
oh yah.. last time we don?t have CD also and I can see pasar malam selling casettes...
Pasar malam is a part of my life too because I go there more often as a child rather than a teenager...

iQing
06-06-2004, 07:05 AM
good question... let?s learn some HTML here...
first of all upload your picture in the ReCom gallery...
now for eg if you want to upload ReCom banner to this thread...
right mouse click the banner and click Properties
it will display the address (URL) of the banner or picture..
copy the address and insert it to the following HTML Tag
<.img src=ADDRESS.>
for example Recom banner... the Address is http://recom.homelinux.org:8000/~recom/themes/Blue/images/banner.gif
insert it to this tag
<.img src=.>
becomes like <.img src = http://recom.homelinux.org:8000/~recom/themes/Blue/images/banner.gif.>
There are no dots . before and after < and >.. i put it to disable HTML effect
no space between src = and the address... now try it with your pictures u upload in the gallery...
<img src=http://recom.homelinux.org:8000/~recom/themes/Blue/images/banner.gif>

When I was in standard one, I wasn?t aware of what is exam.. at that age I never know what is test nor exam.. I still remember when I was having my first class dictation I dunno what everyone was doing.. I just saw the teacher say something and my friends were writing something.. I even copy what my friends are writing... after the test we hand out our paper... of course my paper was almost empty... this is my first experience of small test...
I was still innocent...
As a child I feel funny when I hear parents like to discuss about thier children... like :
wah... ah X ?s son is so clever, got 100 marks ah....
wah... ah Y is so smart.. I also want to sent my son to tuition..
these words puzzeled me...
after standard one exam (still mong cha cha at that time) I got back the report card. I was beaten severely by my mother without knowing why...
she says : wah... only got 31th position in the class?
to be honest I really don?t know why at that time she cane me so hard just because of that number 31
(she was comparing me with other students, not looking at my exam performance)
in standard 2 I got better result.. I think 12th in the class... I always get canning because I failed to outshine others when my parents compare my result with other children...
as years past by I learn that I should get good result..
slowly I was brainwashed... loosing my innocence little by little...
in my primary school years, it seems high scorers are well respected.
Ah chin, why are you so stupid ah? maths got only 68 marks...
Ah hau is so clever, always got full A
Ah Han ... can u let me see your test paper.. how much you got..
Ah liang, who scored the highest for BM paper ah?
at first it was strange to me.. slowly I was pragramm to adhere to such things...
I become one of them....
then I start to wear mask like many people...
the purpose is only to score high marks (I still don?t understand why marks are so important, other to satisfy my ego)
I go for a lot of tuition.
I try to be better than the best students (this egos starts during my secondary school years)
I feel so happy after beating so many people...
I try to show off...
(I don?t have the wisdom to understand why I am doing this stupid things)
I got brainwashed more and more...
PMR you must do well ah.. if fail go to work in factory
if you don?t do well in SPM you cannot enter Uni
Go and do your homework now
for these years I have loosed my innocence..
I satisfied my ego because I am brainwashed to do so...
everytime I only aim at good score and beating the others
-----------
finally.. after extensive reading, exposure and self reflection...
now I reallise how much I have been brainwashed..
If not I am still a monster wearing human skin walking around..
I would like to depict myself as a repented masked boy..
now whenever I see people doing the same thing as I have done in the past...
I feel dissapointed...
this is the story I wish to share with you.
thanx

ahaha... do you know i was darn stupid in my pre school years and std 1? MY first year of kindergarten, i was told to go up the stage and receive something (i dunno what's that for, and what's all about). In my year 2 (i switched kindergarten), i was once again asked to receive something... And during std 1, the teachers asked me to ask my parents to go to school on one saturday. My parents thought i had violated one of the rules... Hahaha... Eventually, they were supposed to receive my prize with me ... And later i found out that the thing that i receive in my 2 years of kindergarten were actually trophies.... LOL! can't believe how dumb i was...

one of the best moment in my childhood is playing fireworks...
not to mention that my dad bought one whole big box of fire shooting where I shoot it up to the sky.. I even try to explode one flower pot with fire crackers... it does cracked...
the chinese fire cracker is great too but it?s laud.. I can?t really sleep during chinese new year... nowadays it?s quieter...

here I would like to share with you a lyric on childhood romance... enjoy!
First of May - Sarah Brightman
When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall,
we used to love while others used to play.
Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by,
someone else moved in from far away.
Now we are tall, and Christmas trees are small,
and you don't ask the time of day.
But you and I, our love will never die,
but guess who'll cry come first of May.
The apple tree that grew for you and me,
I watched the apples falling one by one.
And as I recall the moment of them all,
the day I kissed your cheek and you were gone.
Now we are tall, and Christmas trees are small,
and you don't ask the time of day.
But you and I, our love will never die,
but guess who'll cry come first of May.
When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall,
do do do do do do do do do ...
Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by,
someone else moved in from far away.

my experience is almost same as elansar gelmir. i also don't know what i do during my childhood time. my childhood is almost monotonous, which is study study and study only without knowing what the world is about.
i feel very surprised that i can hardly to recall my childhood. i need to browse throught my parent's newspapar cutting to get back my lost memories. it is saddening.
when i was young, my mum doesn't let me go out alone, because i was physically weak that time. i was always getting bullied by my friends and i just let them bullying me. i was so innocent that time, maybe foolish and slowish reacting pulse. (swt)
childhood memory.....

I've known her since I was 4, and this relationship has been kept alive for almost 18 years! We already forgotten when was the exact date we met, or how we came to know each other?! Anyway, we already set a date for our 20th anniversary... :)

I moved a lot in my childhood... I was born in JB, moved to Parit Raja (near Batu Pahat) when I was 1 I guess... then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma in the US when i was about 4. Stayed there for 2 years. Came back, stayed in Teluk Kemang (near Port Dickson) for another 3 years and a half, then moved to Batu Pahat.
*sigh* One thing i felt sad during my childhood was that I always made friends and lost them (as I moved about).
Honestly, I can't recollect what i did in my childhood leh... mostly playing around loh. Never even study much. I was the laziest student in primary school; there was rarely a whole week where I wasn't caned at least once by a teacher.
When I was in Teluk Kemang life was really slow-paced because it was a kampung. My primary school there only had one class for each standard. In Batu Pahat it all became different. My primary school here streamed students according to their previous year's results, so competition was always present.
Aiyoh... can't think of much to say now...
children are so naive and innocent. they don't know that this world we're living in is actually a man-eat-man world, the survival of the fittest. i like being a child!

hmm I am not so sure about that. have you seen children before they are indoctrinated with the moralistic education in primary schools? whoa.... if i remember my childhood clearly, there seem to be a lot of jealousy, greed, selfishness and self-centeredness..... why else would there be sibling rivalry? heh.... ok ok.. i like playing the devil's advocate* ... i don't really think that children are less evil than adults.... probably the difference is that their egotistical natures are more straightforward and less deceptive...

Ahh..who can forget their special childhood moments..unless if that person suffered amnesia...........of course
When i was a kindergarten kid,i was the one who would wake up earliest than the rest.I just enjoy to watch sunset, breathe in the cool morning air...and gaze deep into the jungle.and if i'm lucky i get to see squirrels. The thick mist and greeny sceneries soothes my mind...I hate it when when i still see my mom and dad in deep slumber.I would wake both people up.I still remeber when i used to shake my dad telling him...'appa..appa..wake up..U're going to be late for business.."...and when he's about to leave,i wave him goodbye everytime..And almost very morning,i would hop on my dad's motorcycle to a roti canai shop...I really enjoyed the hot-served food together with hot nescafe/milo..I remember i used to comment to my mom that the shop's nescafe tastes much better than hers..I miss those days..*sigh*..
I had my chinese neighbours, living next-door.There was this boy one year senior than me..and another girl of my age. Both of them were siblings. What separates our homes was the fence with square-shaped holes.I never call them with their real names...only with nicknamesWhenever,i felt bored,i would call over to them to have a chat with me.We arrange our own art classes--We didn't use paper and pencil...but chalk and the floor instead. Each of us take turns to see at each others 'masterpiece'.We share the same interest at that time which was stamp collecting. We would do exchangings. And later in the evenings, there'll be badminton.Hmm..what else..Oh yeah...whenever i knew that mom's cooking ain't of my favorite,i shall make my way to my neighbour's house to have scrumptious lunch. Both parents of my childhood never treat me like a stranger. And i used to play around in their house.
There was this small river-like place...men-induced one actually.I still remember our small fishing trip...Arming with a small fish net,we caught the baby fishes..My mom scolded me for that..he..heh...Then,i caught a tortoise and proudly showed it off to my friends..Again my mom scolded me for playing in dirt.Muds and drenching in sweat didn't bother me at all......I just love cycling....Sometimes,i race with my friends. It was a daily routine for me to cycle around the neighbourhood in the morning and evening....he..heh..instead of playing with dolls i played with 'lastik'...I did even suffer from serious bruises while playing...That was the way,I was very active and always playful. Now,i'm 18...when i look back...i couldn't believe i was the one who did such tomboyish things.
Oh..my childhood friends have moved when i was in primary school..But,they do still come visit us once in a blue moon.I never talked my childhood friends...It's been long time ago..But,i do acknowledge and cherish the experiences they have offered me.
The best year of my primary school was during our standard 6.That was the time when all of us in 6 Aman, felt that we belong to the same family. No looking at race, religion and color of skin.We were so united.Once, there was an inter-class competition in collaboration of national day.Amongst the three classes,we did the worse singing practice. Our music teacher sweared us that we wouldn't win..and gives credits to other classes. But,on the day of the competition,we did something unusual and creative and we even impressed the judges. We were the one who won the competition.eventhough it isn't a national level competition...the laughters and memories we went through in harmony was something to be appreciated more..*sniff*sniff*..........I did kept the pen i got as a prize of the competition till last year...It was of sentimental value..but now the pen is gone.....Well..a bit childish,huh...That's what childhood is about... :P
Well, the jungle which used to be in front of our house has vanished long time ago..Now what stands on that plce is the new taman. At least it used to be colder whe the jungle was there...
