View Full Version : Discussion: JPA 2009 Pharmacy Thread

Since the 2008 JPA Pharmacy thread was sort of outdated, I decided to open up this new thread so that all pharmacy students can come and discuss about their future in university. Hopefully we can also have some useful advice from seniors. :))
One important thing though, I had read through the guidelines and I realized that chit-chat and usual 'keng gai' stuff should be avoided in this forum. So hopefully everyone can try not to chat freely too much.:P
Anyway, I had seen a very useful 'Statistics of JPA Scholarships Distribution' thread posted by Mr.chenchow
http://recom.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7789
And it seems like JPA only offered 120 overseas scholarships for pharmacy last year. Seriously 120 places are too few compared to 530 places for medicine. The percentage of getting a overseas JPA pharmacy scholarship is so low! So are there any chances JPA will increase the number of scholarships for pharmacy this year?

Maybe they will reduce the number of places for medicine and increase number of places for other courses.
Although I don't have any solid proof, apparently Malaysia will soon have enough doctors. Still shortage now but doctors may be enough in a few years later.
However, pharmacist still serious shortage in Malaysia (again, another assumption myself). So maybe they will increase the number of scholarships for pharmacy to deal with the shortage of pharmacists.
As for the japan pharmacy, it seems like it's only for bumiputera students.

I think actually there are a LOT more students applying for medicine compared to pharmacy. And also this time JPA doesn't just look at A1s but they seem to also emphasized on the GCE-O level grade as well(they asked us to fill in GCE-O level in the online form right?)
Once again, I hope JPA will give out more scholarships for pharmacy this year.
Anyway, it's good to see this thread finally having some visitors:whoo

Yes, there are more students who applied for medicine, but the places available for medicine are also much more, and if you refer to the statistics summarized by chenchow, pharmacy is actually the most competitive in term of ratio of students applying and securing the scholarship.
By the way, JPA has been requiring GCE'O' level grade for many years, this is not the first year...

And yes it's boring to just sit and wait at home. Nowadays also don't have mood to do revision for SPM stuffs.

Oic.I hope they didnt drop the grade for GCEO just to increase the number of A1.After all, that's the best way to measure students proficiency in english.Erm..that..I hope to get at least matriculation. Are you guys aware that we can check our matriculation status on this April 17th?Just to remind..Form 6 is the last choice for me.

In fact, during my year(SPM 2006) back then, many people obtained an A1 for GCE-O as well. And an A1 in GCE-O probably doesnt really provides a good indication on a student's English proficicency.
But anyway, good luck! =)

Cant reduce Engineering scholars wor...
Because the Engineering is including General Engineering, France Engineering, Germany Engineering, and those Diploma in Engineering(Japan and Korea).
You see how competitive it's...
About the GCE-O Level, I'm quite surprised about it's marking scheme too.
It seems more and more students could get A1 easily...

Yup matrikulasi results will be out this friday.
http://www.moe.gov.my/bmkpm/
Can check through internet, SMS or call them.
IMO, other than JPA scholarship, matrikulasi is one of the best path for students to study pharmacy. Entering IPTA through matrikulasi is a LOT easier compared to STPM.
1. Studying pharmacy in IPTA is a LOT more affordable compared to IPTS. Pharmacy courses in IPTS like IMU and Monash need RM140k for tuition fees. Even AIMST and UCSI need RM80k.
2. BPharm degrees by IPTAs like USM, UM and UKM are well recognised by government and ministry of health (USM is the best). So no need to worry about recognition problems.
3. Pharmacy students in IPTAs can get a lot of hospital attachments with government hospitals for hospital exposure. I talked to a community pharmacist who studied in USM and he said he had to go to hospital for 3 days every week starting from their 3rd year.
But of course studying overseas is way cooler right? After finishing the 10 years bond with government can go and work overseas with an oversea degree.

pharmacy is lot more competitive lol....
for llast year statistic....
Pharmacy - 738 - 120
738 was called and only 120 got it.....
so its like only 1 over 6 of the interviewees got it....
hurmmm......and im sure this year got more who was called for pharmacy...
Engineering -2,069 - 620
as for engineering,1 over 4 got the scholarships.....

In addition to that, the number of straight As or A1 is higher as compared to last year.Yet,the number of scholarships given are still the same,2000.So,its even competitive.Just pray more..Good luck!

lol... Are you all regretting for applying pharmacy (based on your comments)? Cheer up! Honestly speaking, all the courses are very competitive.
It's just that the number of scholarship available for each course is different. JPA provides more scholarships for 'hot' courses compared to 'cold' ones. What makes the percentage of people getting the scholarship for pharmacy so low is the large number of applicants to the number of scholarship available.
Based on my observation, this year will be a very competitive one. For pharmacy course, MARA does not sponsor candidates to "reputable" countries (UK, Aus, NZ) but Indonesia only. Thus, I guess more bumiputra students wishing to pursue Pharmacy are now considering JPA for sponsorship. So, if JPA maintains 120 scholarships for pharmacy, what do you think would happen to our chances? And, (for non-bumiputras) Japan Pharmacy will take up a portion of the 120 scholarships, leaving us behind a much less chance. These are a few points to be considered. I don't mean to dampen your spirits.
By the way, anyone here from Sarawak? I heard (may not be true) JPA allocates 400 scholarships for Sarawakians, but I am not so sure how are they distributed. If you know please do share.
Lastly, good luck to you all. Yup, it's all about luck.

Haha, well, you cannot change it anymore. So, you just need to pray. If you had chosen Japan pharmacy, then you would have had a higher chance.
Well, we can only hope that they decrease the number of scholarship for engineering (i know it's cruel), and add more to pharmacy (i know this sounds nice to our future pharmacists' ears)...lol... Hey,we already have a large number of engineers in our job market.
Plus, Petronas, Shell, TNB and TM do sponsor for engineering. So, I think JPA should reduce the number of scholarships for engineering and add more to medical, pharmacy and dentistry instead.
We can hardly find full scholarships that sponsor these 3 courses.

As much as i know how desperate people to get the scholarships, i think the idea of reducing the number of scholarships for engineering and add more to medical, pharmacy and dentistry is not necessary.
The number of places allocated for medical by JPA is more than enough. Meanwhile, how many pharmacists do we need in Malaysia? No offense but engineering course provide much larger prospect of work compared to pharmacy. If someone graduated as an engineer, that person can work in any kind of field that relates to technologies. But if someone graduated as a pharmacist, that person can work only in pharmacy field. As we all know that technology is always developing, thus, engineer is always in demand.
Again, no offense. Both career; engineering and pharmacy, are very noble. Anyway, best of luck!

Yup spot on.
So many engineering graduates out there already but many organizations are still sponsoring for engineering. I think that is due to the lower cost and fees for engineering programs. Medicine, pharmacy and dentistry programs need a lot of $$$$, so that's why very few organizations like JPA and MARA are willing to offer scholarships.
As much as i know how desperate people to get the scholarships, i think the idea of reducing the number of scholarships for engineering and add more to medical, pharmacy and dentistry is not necessary.

The thing is the our government is currently having more serious shortage of doctors and pharmacists compared to engineers. So wouldn't it be more logical for JPA to sponsor more pharmacy students? .
After all, I have heard stories like JPA sponsoring engineering students to overseas and when they return JPA could not find jobs for these engineering graduates. In the end, JPA had to release them from the bond working for government. Now isn't that like wasted investment for our government?

Thank you... Don't worry, I don't mind at all. I think it's good to voice out our thoughts.
i understand that engineers are capable of working in different fields related to technology. However, the main issue here is the abundance of fresh engineering graduates in our market nowadays (be it from local or private institution). What I think is that if more and more graduates of engineering are produced annually, the number of vacancies available will unable to support the growing demand for jobs by fresh engineering graduates. So, wouldn't it be better if we allocate more places for highly demanded courses with urgent needs?
However, I understand that it is extremely difficult to even get to the interview when we apply for corporate scholarships. Well, considering the desperation of securing a scholarship for engineering students, I guess it is really cruel to cut down the number of JPA scholarships for engineering as people say it's easier to get an engineering sponsorship from JPA (correct me if I am wrong). I would like to apologise if any of you are offended by my post.
I have to agree with you that those majoring in pharmacy will only work in medical-related fields. Same goes with engineering, only work in technological fields. However, pharmaceutical field in Malaysia are still a young and new. In 2008, there had been a "scuffle" between Malaysian Medical Association and The Board of Pharmacy (something along the line I think) that there is a need to change the current policy regarding drug dispensation in Malaysia. As we all know, Malaysian and Singaporean doctors are allowed to dispense medications to patients but other countries like Uk and US, the job is done by pharmacists a.k.a. chemists. Hence, I believe that the future in pharmaceutical field is there but it's only a matter of time.
Plus, as we all know, more and more diseases are discovered these days like SARS and bird-flu. Who knows, what kind of new diseases will emerge in the near future. A pharmacist (postgraduated) with PhD qualification are allowed to do research on new drugs and treatments. In conclusion, this issue will definitely add to the weight of how desperate we need professionals in medical and pharmacy. lol... note that I leave out dentistry...lol... haha... I guess dentists are needed by those who doesnt't know how to take care of their teeth...lol... just joking... no offense, really..
Anyway, good luck and sorry for the long essay. :nuts

Aiyaya......I thought dentistry only covers the entire head? And they must see smelly teeth everyday. eeeewwwww......
But let's try not to stray too far off topic.
About the new policy(separation of prescribing and dispensing rights), a community pharmacist told me that maybe pharmacists in Malaysia can have dispensing right by 2015. And that's around the time when we graduate. But as we know, when Malaysian people say maybe they only cakap kosong. In the end nothing changes.
Nevertheless, I guess this issue had stirred many student's interest to study pharmacy, in addition to the salary factor. Just look at the number of applicants for JPA pharmacy scholarship last year. In fact, now there are 8 students including me in my school competing for JPA pharmacy scholarship.

ya, I don't think they will mean what they said or say what they meant. I think doctors will not allow such policy to be introduced as it may affect their income as they can only charge consultation fees if the policy was introduced.

True. Many ppl want to earn lots of $$ as a doctor. I think its because they paid alot to study medicine (unless they r JPA scholars or study in local U which r much cheaper).
For me, pharmacist shud hav the prescription rights and not just dispensing or sell drugs. Doctors arent god, sometimes they need help from pharmacists too. And money-minded doctors arent proffesional doctors! (no offense)

Many patients still choose to trust doctors over pharmacists in term of prescription of medicine and drugs, and this mentality isn't going to change so soon... The term "pharmacist" is still very much new to the society, gaining its exposure may be starting only last decade, and older generation seems to recognise only doctor as the one who know to prescribe medicine, while pharmacy simple serves as a place to buy medicine prescribed by doctors.
Things might change as now more and more people are exposed to the profession of pharmacists, but it will take some time.

Well, during the interview, I saw many girls are applying for pharmacy. Most guys chose dentistry and medical. I guess I'm the only guy in my school who chose pharmacy.
ya, I don't think they will mean what they said or say what they meant. I think doctors will not allow such policy to be introduced as it may affect their income as they can only charge consultation fees if the policy was introduced.
I think the doctors should thanks the pharmacist! According to some kinda research, the present of a pharmacist in a medical team can reduce the error of prescribing drugs and the risk of the patients getting allergy.. The doctors (especially those money -minded one) should trust and respect the pharmacist as pharmacist is Very Important in improving a patient's illness!
ps: a pharmacist in hospital told me that the occupation ranking in hospital currently is: Doctors--Nurses--PHARMACISTS!!! (because they haven't realise the importance of a pharmacist...HAIZ!!!)
After finishing the 10 years bond with government can go and work overseas with an oversea degree.
so if we got jpa den we must work for the government for 10yrs?

Actually the questions that were posed to me were, "Why Pharmacy? Why not medicine?" So they usually ask both. I remember one girl during JPA interview, when asked, "Why did you choose pharmacy?" she replied, "Because i like chemistry." "Why not chemical engineering then?" "Errrmmm, because I love biology!" "Then why not medicine?" "EEErrrrrrmmmmmm ..... "
Haha...
Anyway, for my case... I attended a pharmacy exposure course last year at Manipal College Melaka and this field really interests me from that day onwards... The talks given were inspiring and encouraging...

Haha... I think it's a misconception that if you love chemistry you should opt for pharmacy, pharmacy involves only a part of chemistry, i.e. mainly organic chemistry. Apart from that, you'll still learn lots of biology stuff, such as biosynthesis pathway, and many reactions down to cellular level, If I'm not mistaken, physiology should be in the syllabus as well (I think this is common to all health-related courses). Again interest in biology does not equal to interest in doing medicine.

True indeed. Even though chemistry is the heart of pharmacy, it's important we consider many other factors before deciding to study pharmacy, like the stuff we study besides chemistry and also the pharmacist job itself.
For example, some people may think that it's fun to be a pharmacist mixing chemicals to compound medicine and drugs, but actually these medicines are usually manufactured in factories while pharmacists spend much more time advising doctors, nurses and patients on proper usage of drugs.

While Obama proves that you can get to the top regardless of where or what you do, type of profession does have some bearing as to where you will ended up.
While pharmacist started work with a much higher salary than others, many are stuck where they are in term of financial reward. A pharmacy's pharmacist will often remain a pharmacy's pharmacist and there is a limit as to how much more they can pay you. They certainly can not pay you million ringgit annual salary.
On the other hand, fresh accountant started with pitiful low financial rewards but it is often the route taken to become CEO/CFO of big firms to earn millions in annual salary (before this credit crunch, think wall streets & finance and you get the idea). If you also have law background, even better.
My opinion. If you have really big dream and ability, pharmacy or engineering isn't the best route to the very top. Account & law is.

As what we observe here, initially - the early part of the life - their hard work and perseverance is what showed them the path. The common example, Bill gates. He didn't study law, medicine, accounting, or engineering.
He was just an ordinary student who was studying computer science before being dropped out. It was due to his creative ideas, which lead to the innovation of Microsoft. But now, who is he? A CEO and co-founder of multi-billion Microsoft.
Another example, Larry Page and Serge Bring - Google co-founder and CEO. At the age of 26, they are the richest young man . Again, they did not study law or accounting. But rather, their ability to spot the opportunity - the internet is missing the most powerful search engine - and come up with search engine of course with Ad-sense made who they are today.
Summarized, eventually there will one time where if you want to exercise a career advancement, you will have to learn about management, accounting, law and etc. I would like to stress here, do what you're interested in first. You can always pursue those 'CEO required courses' later.
I'm sure there is ample for opportunity for pharmacist- not just distributing medicine- in companies like GlaxoSmithKline .

Is the $$$, the wealth really important??? I dont think so.
Let's say, if your career can earn much more money than other fields, however, you have no interest or not happy at all while you're struggling hard in your career, finally end up with nothing, does this mean a bliss in life?
It's inevitable that money is important in life nowadays, but then, without happiness, is the life blissful?
What I want to emphasize here is, certainly there's NO career can be regarded as a security that ensures you can earn a bunch of money in future. It's your capabilty that counts.
Even someone who opens kopitiam could become rich someday.
We dont want any discrimination of different careers, do we?
Just head towards your interest. Otherwise, it's pointless for you to continue pursuing something just because money but not based on your enthusiasm. Doing something reluctantly is definitely not my utmost will.

I'm also having the same thought actually. Just be a pharmacist, get a job a I like instead of earning a lot of big bucks.
But we may never know, even if we love very much our future job as pharmacist, what if someday we will think that RM4000-6000 is still not enough for ourselves? What if we feel like climbing higher and higher for more $$$$?

Since we talk about business, price is quite important, if you sell the medicine at the price a little lower, you'll get more customers soon. Nowadays many people prefer to buy medicine from pharmacy, because it is cheaper than getting it from clinics, just that they will come with doctor's prescription, or sample of medicine, instead of being prescribed by pharmacists.
There were only one or two pharmacies 10 years ago in my hometown, but I think there are more than 10 now, most of them just opened within last few years. So, can you see the potential of pharmaceutical business?

So the bond is 6 years then. But something is still confusing me. During registration to be a pharmacist, we need to undergo one year of training or housemanship and then 3 years of compulsory government service. But for JPA pharmacy scholars they still have a 6 years bond. So is it......
Graduation ---> 1 year housemanship ---> 3 years service ---> 6 years bond
OR
Graduation ---> 1 year housemanship ---> 6 years bond
OR
Graduation ---> 1 year housemanship ---> 5 years bond

Quite a number of them are sent to do the South Australian Matriculation (in this particular college, they don't refer to it as SAM, they refer to it as AUSMAT), cause they are bound for Australia/New Zealand. A fraction would be sent to do A-Levels, at the same prep college, and those are the ones doing twinning (IMU) if I'm not mistaken. Some would also be sent to another prep college, A-Levels, bound for UK. But it really depends, cause they might change from year to year. In my year, the majority are bound for Aus/NZ

But another one of my senior told me that some UK bound are sent to INTEC as well... So I'm not very sure... We'll just have to wait for the official letter to arrive.

Actually you have an option at INTEC. You may choose further math (specialist math) or you can choose physics. One way or another, you'll have to take 5 subjects

Mathematics, English as Second Language Studies (ESLS), Biology, Chemistry. These 4 are compulsory for Pharmacy students. First semester everyone takes physics as the 5th subject. In second sem you can choose between physics or specialist math.

Overseas......
NZ/Australia - 4 years
Not sure about UK - maybe 4years?

Speaking of IMU, there were two twinning options right? Which one will JPA give us?
2 1/2 years in IMU + 1 year in Strathclyde
2 years in IMU + 2 years in Strathclyde
But now they change the 2 1/2 + 1 option to 2+1?
http://www.imu.edu.my/pro-un-pharmacy.html
I hope not the 2+1 option. Pharmacy in 3 years......can die lor

medicine one thing for sure :P
if i'm going to IMU, i planned to make friends with students from all courses. :))

i'm afraid you were referring to my previous post? because i think i'm the only one who asked about this twinning programme. but i didnt underestimate it, its just a number of people told me about it. i'm a bit worried but determine to do the best in whatever i do next. :))
did u get twinning programme? maybe i'll be ur junior starting next month or july :P how many subjects do pharm students take?
may i know who told u bout this? do they actually study pharm in IMU?:oh
yes i guess so.. after reading the whole pharm thread, i realized tht i also got the same feeling when i was offered this scholarshp long time ago.. :)) i was at KMNS during tht time n i didnt have any idea bout this twinning prog..
when i filled the form only 3 countries were stated = UK, Ausie n Nz and NO twinning prog.. (i`m still wondering the reason until now cz my batch was not the 1st batch to do IMU twinning prog.. ):amuse
i took my A-level in Intec. my batch was called ALM 5 (A-level medicine batch 5) n i guess u already know bout the subjects u have to take rite? 4 sbjects= chem, bio, maths n stats.. as long as u study consistently, there will b no problem to get 15 points (AAA for each subject)
at first, i also had this low self-esteem thingy cz i was offered to do Twinning prog! hwever, after our AS exm rslts were announced, i had realized that my batchmates who aso got twinning prog were brilliant studnts! some of them could even scored 100% for each paper. perhaps tht since pharm is a competitive plus quite expensive course, jpa could not afford to send majority of studnts to go directly to uk, ausie n nz..
n u guys myb aware that the places in ausie n nz uni r very2 limited n every batch
defintly got stdnts who didnt manage to secure places even they met up the jpa's cut off point..so whts the point to allocate so many stdnts to be ausie/nz-bound but the places r not enough 4 every student? :oh
jpa`s policy might change now.. but from wht i read in 1 of the post here, abt 120 places were offered last year for pharm( from 2000 places)
during my time (2004) there were bout 1300 places in total n i dun hav any idea how many places were allocated for pharm.. but if u think logically, it would be much lower during my batch lol :))
Speaking of IMU, there were two twinning options right? Which one will JPA give us?

wow imu is changin damn way fast lol :)) i only left imu around 1 1/2 months ago n they hav changed the course structure already? ya i`m looking at the website too..
Two options are offered:
a) 2 + 1 Two and a half years of study (Part A, 5 semesters) at the IMU Bukit Jalil campus, followed by 13 months (Part B, 3 semesters) at the Strathclyde School of Pharmacy, where IMU and UK students are taught together in the final academic year (Year 4).
b) 2 + 2 Two years of study (Part A, 4 semesters) at the IMU Bukit Jalil campus, followed by 2 years (Part B, 4 semesters) at the Strathclyde School of Pharmacy, where IMU and UK students are taught together in Years 3 and 4 of the course.
the numbers stated `2 + 1` however the sentence said that `TWO AND A HALF YEARS `
my lecturers did not mention bout this `2+ 1` thing :amazed
i did `2 1/2 + 1` prog.. there is no way jpa will allow the stdnts to choose the `2+2` options :)) n some more, for 1 batch only bout 20 stdts are allowd to choose this option n ALL of them r private stdnts
thanks RestlessMind! Now i'm not worried even if i'm going to be offered with twinning programme. as long as i can study under a sponsorship and try my best i guess it's the same to study anywhere. plus i got to stay in malaysia for a longer period. i'm not that desperate to study abroad btw. hehe

Anyway, my mommy just called JPA and IMU.
First of all, there is no such thing as 2+1. Only 2 1/2 +1 and 2+2 in IMU. Sorry for the confusion.
For those students who got IPTS pharmacy, JPA will be sending them to Nottingham in Semenyih here. This year's students may be a bit "lucky" as they might be doing Nottingham's 2+2 program. However, JPA also said that they are negotiating with Nottingham and trying to allow the students to complete all 4 years in Malaysia.
For us who got luar negara pharmacy, JPA will be sending us to Australia, New Zealand, UK and IMU. IMU-bound students will be doing A-Levels. During admission into IMU, JPA said they will leave the students' applications to IMU. The students get to choose whether they want 2 1/2 +1 or 2+2. In the end IMU will make the final decision depending on their performance in A-Levels. Anyhow we better work hard to score 4As if we are going to study A-Levels
The underlined part is only the story we heard when we called IMU. We just dunno how true it is.

I understand that JPA sends some of those who got Pharmacy (overseas) to do A Level at UCSI. I would like to know, where do the UCSI JPA scholars live? Do they all live together like those INTEC JPA scholars (I know INTEC JPA scholars live together in Akasia/Cemara/Cendana)? Would anyone kindly give me the link to the threads/posts which tell us more about it? I couldn't find it.

One of our senior recommer, tanyijing2007 got JPA pharmacy last year and he's going to UK. Now he's studying A-Levels in UCSI.
Apparently he's staying off campus in Angkasa condo near UCSI. Not in Cemara/Cendana/Akasia.

i think its not ur fault. i also checkd the website n it was written like that
oho, their policy changed already... my bacth is P107(pharmacy enrolled in february 2007).. the batches currently enrolled in IMU r P108(sem 4) n P109(sem 2)..
the 2+2 option ws introduced for P108 n as far as i know, imu only had limited places for this option... none of P108 Jpa scholars got this option.. i`m not sure bout P109 :oh
The 2+2 option has the advantage that u can apply directly for pre reg training in UK (thts wht most of private stdnts really want to do)
usually jpa scholars dont hav any problem to score 15 (if u take chem, bio, maths n stats) but yes there r stdnts who only manage to enter with 13 or 14...
the cut off point for jpa scholars in my batch is 13 n i know some of prvt stdnts got only 12..
do the jpa officer/imu staff told u tht u cn actually take 4 subjcts? i mentioned that we took 4 sbjcts but the marks for maths n stats were added together n both ws considered as 1 subject... sound confusing but i hope u can get wht i mean :))
Not really far.
And school bus is provided throughout the day to and from INTEC. Free service.
haha i just recalled my memorable time in intec! the bus should be around most of the time from about 7am till late in evening (Ausmat students often finish their class very late, some more some lecturers do give classes at night). i remembered a friend of mine ws so stressful to have her class test at night :wink ya forgot to tell u. she ws ausie bound dentistry studnt, she did pas the jpa`s cut off point however she didnt manage to secure place in any ausie uni n she ended up taking dentistry at uni of trisakti, jakarta, indonesia...
i dont mean to scare anyone who r ausie/nz bond dentistry stdnts here.. but if medicine or pharm stdnts fail to get places there, most of them wll go to imu/mmmc (for medicine) n imu (for pharm)
since indonesia is out of list dis year, most probably the dentistry stdnts who fail to get places wll go to india instead..
ya another point to mention.. my friend`s lil bro is currently doing a-level at ktt.. he is indonesia-bound studnt howevr jpa mght send him to india instead.. he has no idea where he`ll go for the moment...
classes at night?? whoa. cant wait so start pre-u! i wanna know how my life gonna be
may i knw wat's it meant for fail to secure the places in university??
did u meant tat although we r under jpa scholarship BUT if we did x really excellent in A-lvl then we might probably rejected by the universities oversea????? and finally ends up wif finishing our courses / degree in local u???????
(< i m curious abt tis point, i always heard rumours abt many jpa scholars finally didn't manage to get into uni oversea jz bcoz of their performance in A-lvl...is it true? >)

i dun hav any idea bout uk-bound stdnts who do a level n fly to uk directly... during my batch, i dono none of them..
myb u can ask the more recent batches.. i notcd that one of the recommer here (sopie) is currently doin a-level at ucsi
but 4 imu-bound stdnts at intec, it is less probable that we r rejctd by imu... my batch at intec got around 40 stdnts who wr pharm imu-bound. but somehow only 38 managed to enter imu.. i du hav any idea bout the others eg whthr they faild the cut off point or the faild the interview b4 admission into imu.. n i also dont have any idea where r they now..
edexcel a level for me is not so difficult.. so many studnt got FULL MARKS for each paper, i don think u will have prob to obtain at least 13 points :)
classes at night?? whoa. cant wait so start pre-u! i wanna know how my life gonna be
For AUSMAT - in second sem most topic tests (common tests which all classes taking that subject sit for) will be held at night.
this is because class hours are relatively long, compared to other programmes.
Semester 2 - you'll have 34-hour per week. So your schedule is quite packed, with classes from 8-4 everyday except friday (8-12 noon) and most science classes would have 8-6 class like, two days a week. So yeap, pretty tiring. and for them to arrange tests such that it does not coincide with one class' schedule is not easy - hence it's at night.
First sem you'll have 8-4 classes, so most of your tests will be like 4.30-6 and all.

same here. i'm curious about it. what i know is those who studying in ucsi will be going for uk and students who are doing ausmat in intec will be send to aussie or nz. they choose according to spm results and school achievement is it?
after the final exam, i mean, after completing pre-u, how do we know (if ausmat students) if we are going to aussie or nz? those in uk will fly to uk for sure.

It will be stated in your letter. No known 'characteristics'. If you get Australia, you fly to Australia. If you get NZ, you go to NZ. At the end of it all, it's still an education. Why bother so much about reasons you get sent to Aus/NZ/UK.

where do u get the bold information? hav u read in my previous post? the current batch in IMU r P108( jpa scholars batch 2005) and P109 (Jpa scholars batch 2006) n there r around 40 of them for each batch.. do u think 40 stdnts r classified as `many` or `few`?:P

I've been wondering on this quite sometime. What subjects do pharmacy students study for first year? I just know that dental students have some common subjects as medical students for first year, just to different degree of details, such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry. What about pharmacy students? I bet physiology and biochemistry is a must...?

where do u get the bold information? hav u read in my previous post? the current batch in IMU r P108( jpa scholars batch 2005) and P109 (Jpa scholars batch 2006) n there r around 40 of them for each batch.. do u think 40 stdnts r classified as `many` or `few`?:P
the 2007 batch r currntly havng their A2 exm now n they will enrol in feb 2010. while 2008 batch is now in their sem 2/sem 3 in intec.
about `a few sent to uk` thing, mayb sopie can answer the qs, how many stdnts exactly r bound to uk at ucsi.
n also i did mention bout the limited places in ausie/nz uni for pharm course, i`m sure if u read other thread, others hav mentnd bout this issue too :)
Because seems like many seniors study ausmat in intec(to aus and nz is it) ... less recommers are in ucsi(to uk is it) is it ?? so wonder less ppl are sent to uk ... hehe ..:)

cheh i thought u`r taking A2 already meh.. haha AS can la.. so easy..just like SPM qs..:P even my lecturer told us to jump from kl tower if we didnt score for AS papers..
50 somthing? 50 all pharm? ya i thnk its logic cz last year there wr 120 places offerd for pharm. if around 50 r uk-bound, my estimate 50 for imu-bound then left bout 20places to ausie/nz. this is my opinion only.
ya forgot to mention, for 2005 batch, 1 class (bout 20 stdnts) n 2006 batch (duno the figure) wr sent to SIT International college in klang. they wr twinning with University of South Australia
haha..i'm taking edexcel new syllabus which the new AS is equivalent to the old A2 according to my lecturers... The most sad part is i'm one of the few first batch... no textbook for the first 4-5 months... then onli specifications they provide us... the textbook for A2 also they don't published yet... the onli thing i'm taking old syllabus is math. The they provide sample asessment questions which they said the questions there are like actual exam...when enter the hall..open the papers... *faint* NOT SAME AT ALL!

my pharmacy friends are too busy studying la dear~~....exam next week... not like me... lazy :P

nah, i thnk uk-bound stdnts like u should not hav any prob even they chngd the syllibus already rite? u stll hv a long way to go!! :))
ya i thnk some of us here simply conclude that whn there is no/few recomrs bound to certain country, then the total number of students sent to that particular country is few also
come on la, not all of thm r recomrs n even they r recomrs, myb they r kind of busy to post here :)

Hmmm. I realised only a few guys are doing pharmacy. In fact, for this year's JPA batch, i think only a handful of guys got it. I can see that most of you are gals here... hmmm, wonder why...

Not yet......
But that means we should be ready for the letter's arrival. Should be anytime in this or next week.
I guess our holiday will be over really soon. Once our letters arrive, we are going to be really busy for the preparation.

Hehe... Join the club, guys! From what I've gathered from this thread (did not check the "JPA Application results" thread), I think there are only 6 male recommers who got JPA Pharmacy: Me, you two, ZZZ..., YPing and Dillon91. This is sad to note...
PS: Sorry, anyone did i left out? =)

Got A-Levels, AUSMAT in INTEC. Not necessarily AUSMAT alone. INTEC means you'll be our juniors =)

Why did u say you got A-level's medicine?

Oh but pharmacy students don't do a-levels in INTEC except for IMU students right? Those pharma students going INTEC are all Aus/NZ bound only right? So they're doing AUSMAT only...

ok I think either you or I am confused. You know that INTEC is the prep college. You do your pre-u there. SO, if you're pharmacy - and you get
IMU - you do A Levels
Aus/NZ - you do AUSMAT
UK - a levels at UCSI.
Hope that's clear.
u a-lvl also??
where will i head to??
twinning??
And no I'm not alvl.
And the topaz.kampus17 website is not to check your place in the college, it's actually to generate your bill so you can pay the fees.
Hope that clears some things up.

And no I'm not alvl I'm AUSMAT. if you get medicine INTEC, either you get IMU, PMC-Ireland or Melaka-Mannipal. Twinning programmes.
OR
you get Australia/New Zealand full. Then you'll be doing AUSMAT
And the topaz.kampus17 website is not to check your place in the college, it's actually to generate your bill so you can pay the fees.

Yeah that's why I'm confused since she said she got A-levels in INTEC and she's doing Pharmacy and NOT medicine.
