1. Have a link to a table or map of countries, thus we will know how many people/who is where (my grammer sux). I dunno who is in australia with me also...
2. You know, the latest posting box, at the main page? should have links to the last page, instead of clicking on the topic, then only look for last page. (e.g. forum.cari.com.my)
3. This one veli important: Mission Statement.
Why? It looks good and professional. Cheh Wah!
4. New columns/segments/forum.
Suggestions:
- The far left (e.g. Anarchy, Libertarian)
- Agony aunt
- Love and Romance (blek!)
- Game of the week
- Album of the week
- Book reviews
- Recipes
- Personals (that's so gay...)
- Classifieds
5. This is one also misled_youth thinks is important. We can do a great deal of change to society with this (apart from increasing ReCom exposure). - REGULAR PRESS RELEASE.
Where ReCom would tell Joe Public what ReCom thinks of issues, policies, current events, politics, etc.
6. Nail the buggers fanning racial sentiments.
7. Links!!!
- lets link to www.jeffooi.com, www.mycen.com.my/duasen, www.malaysiakini.com, thestar.com.my, www.newstraitstimes.com, utusanmelayu.com etc. Movers and shakers!
8. Advertisements!!!
- Lets host google style adverts!
- Youth oriented sites are good for attracting youth orientated companies (e.g. SMS logo operators, Nike, Tiger Beer, Zouk Club KL)
- Amazon.com
9. Credit system for forum
- this would allow moderators to deduct points, causing people to behave.
- negative points means bans from posting etc.
10. ReCom hosting counterstrike, WCIII servers! <-- joking.

actually we already have this.
2. You know, the latest posting box, at the main page? should have links to the last page, instead of clicking on the topic, then only look for last page. (e.g. forum.cari.com.my)
ditto. notice the small icon next to the latest poster's name?
3. This one veli important: Mission Statement.
i think we also have this.
6. Nail the buggers fanning racial sentiments.
umm...care to elaborate?
www.mycen.com.my/duasen oh yeah, i'm a huge fan of his writings. methinks he's the ONLY local satirist of any note.

Thanks Misled_youth for your suggestions.
1. Have a link to a table or map of countries, thus we will know how many people/who is where (my grammer sux). I dunno who is in australia with me also...
It is on the main page, right hand side

Number 2, topdog's answer is prefectly true.
3. This one veli important: Mission Statement.
Yeah, go to http://recom.homelinux.org:8000/~recom/modules.php?name=About
4. New columns/segments/forum.
Suggestions:

Guess most of those can fit into current ones. Book Reviews, there is a ReCom Reading and Sharing SIG. Recipes, there is a ReCom Cooking SIG.
5. This is one also misled_youth thinks is important. We can do a great deal of change to society with this (apart from increasing ReCom exposure). - REGULAR PRESS RELEASE.
Where ReCom would tell Joe Public what ReCom thinks of issues, policies, current events, politics, etc.
This is something that we are working on. As most of us are full time students, so perhaps we can look at how much we could manage. Currently, we are soliciting idea for the biotech and IPTA issues for press release. Please submit your ideas. There isn't much idea yet.
6. Nail the buggers fanning racial sentiments.
I guess we should inculcate the habit of looking at issues objectively and not fanning racial sentiments.
7. Links!!!
- lets link to www.jeffooi.com, www.mycen.com.my/duasen, www.malaysiakini.com, thestar.com.my, www.newstraitstimes.com, utusanmelayu.com etc. Movers and shakers!
Most of those like malaysiakini, the star, NST, Utusan etc are there.. In fact, we have links to about 130+ M'sian Students Assoc worldwide there. If you have additional links, submit your links there

If you want to add any category, just message me or other anchors.
8. Advertisements!!!
- Lets host google style adverts!
- Youth oriented sites are good for attracting youth orientated companies (e.g. SMS logo operators, Nike, Tiger Beer, Zouk Club KL)
- Amazon.com
We considered it before, but I think we would not have advertisements. Perhaps you can share some of your pointers to support having it.
9. Credit system for forum
- this would allow moderators to deduct points, causing people to behave.
- negative points means bans from posting etc.
It is a great idea! May be you can initiate a project to work together with fellow ReComers that can work towards writing those codes and implement it. It would be complicated, but I guess with the talents around, it is possible!
10. ReCom hosting counterstrike, WCIII servers! <-- joking
Guess this is possible too!
Thanks for those wonderful idea. Hope other ReComers can share more idea! and perhaps discuss on these idea!

I thought we had this before for CS ...
we also used to have an IRC server + channel but I guess there was so little participation that the IRC server and CS server were taken down :(
perhaps we could revive the servers since now ReCom has quite a large membership compared to last time ..

I've said this in the past and I'm saying it again =)
I think we should delete redundant threads that were/are currently locked.
If recom need more forum manager for that, I would be happy to delete stuff for you guys. =)
I think redundant threads should be deleted while inactive/solved threads should just be locked.
So if some threads
1) the issues discussed have become out-of-date OR
2) the questions asked have been answered
then, it is preferrable to lock them.
I'm not sure if it's good idea to lock a thread just because it has become inactive ...
But on the other hand, if some new members open a new thread on some topic which has been discussed or is being discussed in some other thread, just inform the poster about the other thread and delete the new one. There's no point locking it.

Why not we just lock those redundant threads and leave them for one month. (to inform them the reason of locking and etc)....then delete them after one month? Is this better?
Inactive threads.....like say.....3months inactive....just delete them. No point locking rite? Since no one's going to post either....
inactive threads might be useful to those who register late since the threads might have lots of info .. but redundant threads don't give any new info so just delete them la .. got my logic?

I would agree with luke on the inactive thread, and agree with pandaboy on the redundant thread. May be 2 weeks would be sufficient time to remind the person. And we can also cut and paste the thing to the thread we want it to be posted too.

Umm... some suggestions:
1. I think to clean the forum, can try deleting outdated information (for example, announcements or messages regarding scholarship, which is way past their deadlines... eg: offer for xyz scholarship which closed in Dec 2003 should be deleted by now...)
2. Why not try to organize scholarship information by region? Eg: Scholarships (It's in the "education" thread rite??) then can further organize them into like... "General", "US/Canada", "Korea/Japan"... this way, I think it's easier for ppl to find information.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion Eileen. we would try our best to come up with a better solution for the scholarship-related information.
Thanks

I would suggest a quick reply column below every thread so users don have to click Post Reply and type their comments.. Instead they can just type it down there and it will be added some sort like LowYat forums, http://forum.lowyat.net

I have a suggestion here. I think it'll be an added advantage. Below the avatar, together with the Location, Joined Date and Posts, can we put up University and Course of Study? It'll be easier for other ReCommers to know who is studying in which uni...and seek help or advice if needed. What do u think?
Instead of cramming all the information on that limited space, I'd suggest extendin the "profiles" page, and make it easier for someone to see that (like click on the avatar instead of that unknown button at the bottom of the message).
Moved from a locked thread.

I don't have any suggestions but i'd like a repeat of the poll "where did you hear about recom"
