Im from Ipoh. When I went to my bio tuition in form 6 for the 1st time,I did not get used to d teaching style because d teacher uses powerpoint ,a tablet pen and tablet pc to teach the subject instead of d traditional chalk and talk method. But after goin for a few classes,I find that his method makes students understand bio better through interactive media. Are there any tuition or school bio teachers who uses this method in other states ?

Well, for my lecturer, yes..i reckon in most colleges and university ,leturers often make use of power point and slide show to teach and to deliver their lectures.

This method is extremely useful as it can make things even clearer. Long facts and points in biology can makes me tired and get fed up when keep on regurgitating the particular facts through the whole string of sentences, and power point often in brainstorming and mind-map form make my task of memorising go simple.

Your tuition teacher's name is Mr. Khor right? I learned under him too... He teaches Biology tuitions in Perak, Sungai Petani (Kedah), Butterworth and Penang.. :-)

Hmm.. I did Bio in college instead of Form 6 and they used markers and whiteboard instead of powerpoints. I found the traditional method (teaching sans powerpoint) much more effective since it allows the lecturer to better manipulate the content into a more understandable manner.

Back in secondary school, many of my teachers tried to use powerpoints to make lessons 'interactive' but ironically, they ended up reading from the slides. So much for interactive learning.. :S Haha.

Digression;
Btw, I'm from Ipoh too. Which school are you from/currently studying in? :)

i remember very well the time when we learn DNA transciption and translation, my lecturers show us the detailed information on how these processes of DNA work ..From DNA itself, until the process of how they are converted to RNA then proteins and eventually stand for the functionality of human cells.

Pictures speak a thousand words. Thus it is much more clearer compared to talk and chalk method.

Well, it all depends on the individual and teacher, I guess. :)

My teacher just use the cd n read out loud the content....

Not to mention, she only read the notes she had given us, with no further explanation n when question being asked, she'll read back the notes for us...

very helpful huh? -_-*

I guess for Bio, everything is on our own...

Indeed, most sixth formers in my former sch rely on tuitions 2 survive

I guess u haven't go to Mr Khor tuition for Bio, right? lolz.. his style is unique and he always have a way to captivate the students attention besides giving nice tips.

But, still yeah u could still do it on your own, without any teacher's guidance. Just that it might be a bit difficult as you do not know the 'techniques' ..

ya, agree with pureint91.

Memorising is not enough though you have spent a lot time studying for it. This thing same goes to understanding the subject but not able to describe it the way the markers's want. One need to memorise like very hard and then have to understand it too. However, it is also about luck as we might be good for both but not able able to give the points they want to see, you won't get the point. This what I don't like Biology.
