I have been wondering that there are many people who get scholarship every year and with the current rate the government sector should (i think) be full. I know people who are associated with health care such as doctors and pharmacist end up in hospital ( i assume) but how bout an economic graduate. I mean I doubt the Economic Planning Unit actually need that many economists to sustain itself. If not there, then where do they work. And how about biotech graduates, where do they end up? Well this is because our biotech industry is not growing rampantly, so where do these people actually work. Well this is because not only the scholars apply for work there, but even local graduates do. If you sum it up, the figure is substantially high. Can some of the jpa scholars who have return share an insight on how the system works. This is because 2000 for 10 years is 20000 excluding the ones from local varsity.

You may be released under some cases, but I can't be for certain.

But I do know a friend who was suppose to serve under a company (not GLC) after completion but he was released instead since they did not have any relevant vacancies.

i have heard that JPA actuarial science scholars will work under bank negara as it is a subsidiary company of the government. if JPA can't find us a job, then they will hafta release us. then we can go venture our future job horizons locally or overseas:)

That, I can't answer.

But I did asked my Economics lecturer once, she said, you can either be:

1. A lecturer
2. Work with the govt. (EPU, Bank Negara etc. and get blamed for a recession ;) )
3. Work with the banking institution.

Apart from that, I have been scouting around for job vacancies, and even ordinary companies not related to banking (i.e. Shell, Petronas, Volvo etc.) wants economists to be part of their business strategy team.

Basically I could say that an economist would usually be the 'planner' for a company, taking care and under seeing future investments.

why you bother about the future job prospects and the bond to JPA?

if there are vacancies, for sure you will be fitted into it.

if there are no, you will be get dumped aside. bond broken, soul freed.

hmmm... how if we want to pursue our master degree straight away after our bachelor degree ? we cant? coz there are minimum 6 yrs bond and if we nid to pay a fairly huge amount if we wanted to be released earlier than that.

Relax.. That should be the least of your problem. Just focus on graduating first :)

because we live in malaysia, economist are most probably confined to a 9 to 5 job. but if you were to venture various job opportunities overseas, u will realize that economists overseas especially in the States are paid very lucratively and their economics expertise are utilised over a large span of job categories, ranging from Treasury Minister to writers of best-sellers. :)

Well this is because I want to know the job prospect of an jpa economic scholar. I do not mind working for the government but would prefer something more challenging than a 9 to 5 job.http://www.recom.org/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif

Most probably in the banking setting.
Most graduates are way too worried about the job prospects of what they major, while you may not neccessary to be in economics fields upon graduation.
My friend ,JPA scholar of biotech, working in gov consultancy section of human resource departments.
