Hey eeyore,

I am not sure if you have an a/c, but that i guess syamsul (masterof_none) can help.

I am using wsftp as my ftp client. create a new site, the host is cs.recom.org, key in your user (maybe eeyore) and password. remember, the default port is 21 but you have to change it to 2121. this port is fixed when they started up the ftp daemon on the server.

this is the way to put in your data in the server. if you have joined the recomanchors in yahoo group, then you may refer to those messages sent out by syamsul, he explained pretty detail on how to make those web available.

In fact jobs available in Jobstreet.com are a lot. Those listed above, they sent to me base on what I asked for in my resume.

While filling up the resume online, they will ask you "Only Malaysia" or "Singapore" you would like to work in, something like that. I remember I filled up with both, so they sent me whatever jobs available which match with my resume/qualification.

which Engineering fields are marketable?

from what I see from newspaper, website etc...

Electrical Eng has the largest demand in malaysia but the competition is high too.

Mechanical comes next but the competition is not so high

Mechatronics... I think it's less marketable...

On which engineering field that is marketable?

I would argue that to be marketable, we need to be multi-skilled. So, while we could be specializing in one field of engineering, like electrical engineering, it would be great if we could learn at least a solid foundation of a few other engineering fields.

As we can see, currently we are building more and more sophisticated system and machinery and we need to have the skills from various fields to finish the job. A lot of project teams have seem to be evolved over here, where students from various majors, would cooperate to build real stuff, like Robots to play soccer, a mini Formula 1 car, hybrid electric vehicle, underwater autonomous vehicle etc. Each of those would require the skills of electrical engineers, computer engineers, mechanical engineers, computer science, industrial engineers, operation researches, business majors, system engineers, information technology...

i think there's a lot of stuff going on. it's really easy for EE, ME, and Aero.
there worst case would be naval engineering =)

plus, its becoming easier for EE coz the dot com industry is rebooming, if that's really a word.

I know this isn't a very well known Engineering field as compared to EE or MechE or ChemE.... nevertheless, in US, it's said to be one of the highest paid engineers around...even more than EE or MechE..

If this is the case, we've got problem.

because too many of us doing engineering already.
engineering is still the same. physics, calculus, etc.

and anything behind engineering 'mechanical' etc, is the extra stuff that makes you qualified more.

In fact, the key-thing when you approach a job application, is your experiences, I mean working experiences.

Of course, you need to use what you have obtained from school to apply for the job, but when come to real work-life, what you have study doesn't really count.

I would advise, regardless of what you have studies, what you have obtained, just go for the applications. Your experience record still remain zero "0". You should try whatever you have given and work out for your experiences, after some time then you may try another job which you WISH to have. I am not sure you guys understand or not, or maybe I am to "kolot" and ignore me... hahaha!! You will know when you start working. A lot of you have a very good ambition, like iQing, Silverblue, earth, crazycow and so on... but when you start to work, you will be beaten initially, definitely. I hope you guys can hold your ambition tight and fight for your future.

My Ol'Man story will be ended soon as I am going to leave Recom. I will be on and off coming in to pay a visit, but definitely will not be so frequent. This is because I need time to fight for my projects and accomplishment before end of this year. Our company will be having an accomplishment review every 1/2 a year, I need to get myself prepared. For my homepage, I will continue building it and if there is anything new in there, I will "shout" :wink:

I think the figure about 90% bumiputera graduates are jobless is not true. If I am not wrong, it is among the jobless graduates, 90% are bumiputera, but I still doubt this figure. I think it is not that high.

Think about it the money makers are not engineers who slog for 4 or 5 years but the accountants and auditors who have Relatively easy 3-4 years, and yeah i meant with reference to engineering discipline

hey..guys...! Next year in May, I shall start my industrial attachment (IA). My university system is like this: We can either choose to have the placement by faculty or placement by own. So far, I have yet to be informed of the actual procedures or any briefings on IA. The briefing will begin in the first week of my new semester, which is today. But, I'm just always a paranoid person, so I hope to get in hand of more information before I really deal with it.

Hopefully any of you who has gone through IA, share your experiences and the procedures you've came about when applying for the companies. ( Doesn't matter the procedures are different from my university system). FYI, I'm majoring in Business Information System, I have no idea of what actually I can contribute to a company and what kind of company should I look into. Although my majoring in under IT faculty, but my courses are mainly more to business side.

thanks a lot chenchow...you've been always a great motivater, and always encourage me. well, today I went to see the coordinator for IA, he told me that, actually they're based on CGPA. Lets say a company in JB needs 5 students, then the faculty will allocate according to the highest CGPA, and send the resumes to the company. I guess, with my CGPA, I doubt when can I get the offer?! 8O

Personally, I don't think CGPA should be the only criterion. It is very inaccurate to merely look at the CGPA of the students only. How can one assess one's working performance based on CGPA? Anyway, PeiWen, you don't have to be too worry, since your IA is required, and you are definitely not ranked way below, so I can say that you will definitely find some jobs.

Really hope that some other Recom members could share some pointers and provide some guides...
