No politician is good  ,

usually I would go for the lesser of two evils(i.e. the least corrupt/more 'people minded')

indonesian saying:

A leader is one who leads in front to guide u, walks by your side as a friend and pushes u from behind as a motivator.

My major is law, certainly i'm not majoring in pure science. So, they say i belong to social science category. Like other people, I also learnt physics, biology, and other pure sciences during my high school year. So one can say that i have education background in such courses. With a dream to have my own law firm, i took some business class in college. And to be a good lawyer, i have to be good at manipulating people, and understanding people's behavoir, so i took psychology as well. I'm also a cutting edge kind of guy, and i want my future business to keep up with the technology. so i decided to learn web design and management.

If i were to jump into politics, who will i be?
Will i be a...

1)Lawyer (people with educational background in law
2) Accountant/Economist/Business executive
3) Doctor (people with education background in .....psychology, etc)
4) Scientist (people with education background in .....biology,physics...etc....)
5) Arts&Social Science (simply because my major isnt pure science)
6) Accountant/Economist/Business executive (people with education background in ......business)
7) IT (people with education background in IT ..)

Somebody which I have at least met and talked to before....

Like what digimushu posted, a leader elected by the people to serve for the people.

I have never met any bigshot politician other than my local MP...back in my secondary school days...

I think I would choose a politician with sincere hearts and desire to serve, while having a good set of soft skills. Being able to communicate with the people in the constituents and also with relevant departments/ministries/agencies. Being able to portray leadership skills, concerned about the problems that the constituents face...

I would say that having inter-personal relationships are essential. You need to be able to relate to do a good job. And also sticking towards what you have promised is essential...

Any other thoughts? And I think the most important is desire to serve... To those political aspirants, you can try and horne the skills through ReCom.org too....

And how are we able to tell whether one is sincere or dedicated until that person is already elected and its too late?

Ppl can always just put on a well-planned farce...get elected and we can't do anything about it unless we do it by force.

Like iQing mentioned before, actors....like Reagan and Estrada.

i voted for a doctor. why? cuz i am GOING to take up medicine...! hehe, well, not a sound reason, but i believe that doctors make good politicians....

other professions are good as well, i think there is a need for a balance. but still, i'm 'tilted' to vote for a doc, with a good reputation-not in terms of cash and the number of cars he/her have, but the weight of sincerity (almost impossible in politics) and understanding...and of course, willpower so as to not diverge from the true reason why the person gets directly involved in politics

The main thing about electing a politician is not what profession he or she is in. It doesn't matter, as the true purpose of a politician is to serve the people. Profession is nothing in determining who should be voted as a politician.

Therefore, the poll is quite irrelevant.

I agree with you fully.

Polls may be irrelevant as far as election is concerned but i still stand by my opinion that some ministry portfolios should be held by engineers

Someone forgot who is the Governor of California .

Anyway, I agree with gohweihan. It really depends on the person who run for the office. If he is a good leader and politician, he would be voted. Just look at the colorful election for the governor of California.
So far, I think Arnold does a great job in running the state. At least he does not 'Terminate' the state yet.

I would say track record would be a good thing to observe. Most politicians would have been getting involved for many years in grassroots level, and they gradually rise through the ranks. In fact, even if they haven't held any position, normal behavior in daily life would count too right?

I think if they can't hold forth to their words when they interact with their friends, do you think they would be a trusted person when elected? Am sure many of those have been active in schools too right?

Of course, it would be tough for us to really know all these, but what I am saying is that the track record could be in public domain.
