It really depends on the type of surgery. These are the typical operation times:
Appendix removal: 20 - 60 mins Cataract surgery: 20- 40 mins Caesarian birth: 10 - 30 mins Gallbladder removal: 1 - 3 hours Knee / hip replacement : ~ 2 hours Breast cancer resection: 1 - 3 hours Bowel cancer resection: 3 - 5 hours Heart bypass: 4 - 6 hours Whipples (removal of pancreas, part of duodenum, stomach and gallbladder plus some plumbing works for pancreas cancer): 6 - 10 hours Dividing Siamese twins: you don't actually see it.
