Being one of the few public universities which focus on the development, research and its application in engineering, I hope you will look forward to join us here in UTM.

Should you have any inquiries about the life style in UTM, please do post your questions following this brief introduction. I will try my best to answer them.

I got biomedical engineering course at UTM. Would like to know anything about UTM bcoz i really dunno anything about there. What about dress code, accommodation and the orientation days? Can anyone briefly explain more about these? Ty. =]

And hmm... when is the orientation day start? i suppose i nid book flight ticket earlier. is there any seniors gonna fetch juniors at airport days be4 the orientation days?

Hi. Congratulation on your admission. I was in your situation at first. Actually I didn't even know where UTM is in the first place. The dress code is generally collared T-shirt and long pants, probably completed best with covered shoes. However, it all depends on which faculty you are studying. As for mine, we are actually pretty lenient in terms of dress codes. Most engineering faculties don't really emphasize a lot on presentation of outfits and appearance as much as those in the faculty of commerce, management, education respectively. However, bare in mind that Monday is smart day which means that you have to be dressed formally according to the dress code given to this day. Usually, office wear will do. Baju kurung also applies for the ladies.

As for accommodation, all those who have been accepted to UTM would have to stay in the campus through out the course of their studies. For instance, if you're taking engineering, you will be required to stay in the campus for 4 years. This comes in rather convenient for the students due to the fact that rental fee and living expenses in JB is generally expensive.

UTM will probably mail you a booklet regarding the rules and regulations in the campus and also a general outline regarding the procedure you should follow to get enrolled at UTM.

Concerning transportation, as far as I'm concerned, you would have to either take a cab to the university. However, it would be great if you can gather a group of people who are going to UTM as well so that you can divide the taxi fare among yourselves. The airport is 30 minutes ride away from UTM.

I heard that the orientation week has been shortened to the course of 2-3 days from 1 week because it was dubbed to be a waste of time by the personnel in the Student's Affair Department (HEP). It's actually a very good news for all of you!

Dress code
Monday is smart day and need to wear formal, besides from that u can wear casual wear to class. During orientation, mostly wear casual wear like track suit and t-shirt but need to wear formal when register cause need to take photo for matric card.

Accommodation
u will most probably get double room. Each member in the room will have a single bed, a table and a cupboard.

Abt when the orientation start, u need to refer to offer letter.
i think u need to call teksi if u need to go utm from airport.

Hi. You got Biomedic Engineering as well? Hmm, I am not so sure about actually. BUt whenever we talk about engineering, we usually talk about the application of a subject (as such case, it would be biomedic) in a large scale production. And yes, you will definitely learn a bit or two about physics. Personally, biomedic engineering isn't so familiar to me. I'm going into the second year of my studies in chemical engineering in the coming session. The subject itself (physics) is a pretty diversed field. Anyway, maybe you can find out more on that subject on the net?

haha, we will be coursemate then. well u can check on youtube by typing "what it biomedical engineering", there are several videos talking about that.

Btw, i wanna ask if any specific bank account we need to have? im just curious which bank account would be more convinient. =]

I'd advise you to apply for a CIMB account. Believe it or not, we actually have a CIMB bank in our university! Furthermore, transaction would be so much convenient with online banking through CIMB clicks if you prefer to use the online service.
