Hello, I've just got back from the MARA interview, thought I'd just give my little review about it.
I didn't realize so many people chose TESL, I was quite surprised to meet so many. I had the interview at the MARA building in KL; they reserved two floors (if I'm not mistaken) for the interview sessions. My floor had about 11 panels of two people, mostly one man and one woman. Students who did not choose TESL left right after their interview. TESL applicants were required to write a 300-350 word essay after it. (Yes, another essay after the one we submitted at home.)
For my first time, I think it went pretty well. Unlike JPA, this was conducted individually, so they only had you to hammer. My session lasted about 20 minutes. The Mr asked abt my personal life while the Mrs asked about being a good teacher. They didn't ask me about current issues, which surprised me a bit, lol.. I went sleepless for nothing. I was so nervous at first that I got stuck at their very first (somwehat offhanded) question: "So Nurul, what did you have for breakfast today?" After that little warm-up, everything else was smooth sailing, thank God. They all look strict, but if you're confident and know the right things to say, you can definitely soften them up!
Now that it's over, all I can do is keep praying. Good luck to everyone else, have fun at it!
