Gosh I really needed this. I've been fretting and fretting over how on earth I'm going to get through University. Cause our family is just average and a huge amount of money has already gone towards my brother's education fund.

Thank you so much!

@glassy - thank you so much for your post. After got rejected twice by difference scholarship, it was a real let down for me. *not even getting through the first round of skimming* TT.TT

But your post lifted me up. Thank you once again. I have learned sometimes that things do go according to your wish, but actually there are something more better and more suitable for us, just waiting around the corner, for the right time to JUMP on you!

Hey there everyone. Thank you for all your kind words. I really do appreciate it. =)

I originally wrote this a year ago because I noticed that whenever scholarship results were released, Recom would see a flood of depressed users posting depressing posts, and often these posts were self-deprecating in nature, which I found alarming. Nobody should ever have feelings of low self-worth over losing what is practically a lottery! So I decided that it was time to knock some sense into them, hehe.

If you'd like someone to talk to [feeling nervous about scholarships, feeling depressed about rejections, etc], do feel free to contact me by the various avenues of which I am available. =)

Cheers, guys!

dear miss glassy..

guess i'm a bit 'lumpy'*lambat pick-up lol* to actually realize this post now..but maybe not too late to realize..i still remember your words of encouragement the other day when i got rejected for matriculation application*in case you remember*..but stiil my bad another rejection hit me again later on, which made me sunk into my self pity again..but now bumping into this thread kind of made my day and seriously changed my perspective on scholarship..just like you said, about people turning away when u tell them that you did not get the scholarship..it happened to me also..maybe that could be a reason i was so hard on myself..but i don't want to take it as an excuse..now i realize that scholarship is not it..maybe bumping into this thread is destined as i am waiting piln 2010 results..all this while i didn't have any back up plan for real but now i am working on a plan b..maybe i will sunk in self pity again but i guess i can tell myself that i can always pass by this thread to make my self better..lol..
miss glassy you made my day..may god bless you..and thank you..ttfn..

Remember these two lines from "If" by Rudyard Kipling
Quote:
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same
Success and failures are not what makes you good and what makes you bad, they are both what defines you as a person, and if you could reap benefit and learn lessons from both, then you will emerge victorious through both your winning and setbacks.

One of my favourite quotes on failure:

"It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default."
~Joanne K Rowling~

I got the quote from the speech she delivered during one of the Harvard commencement ceremonies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkREt4ZB-ck

It's a 3-part speech but she talks about failure and success in the second and third parts. However, I HIGHLY recommend watching all 3 parts because it was a truly inspiring address and I'm sure everybody will benefit from her words of wisdom.
