I promise i'll get back to u soon.

Send a message to me if you think i forgot.

as far as i know, studying in germany is very good if you are planning to do engineering. JPA does offer scholarships for studying engineering in germany, in the university of applied science. (Fachhochschule)
anyway, what i can say is german language is VERY important if u plan to study there. germans do not or rarely speaks english.

There are a few (financial) options for an American education:
1. Scholarship from Malaysian government
2. Scholarship from local private corporations
3. Scholarship from foreign corporations (usually Singapore)
4. Education loans
5. Financial aid package/grant from university
6. Individual sponsors (I'm sure you've read these stories in local papers.)
7. Last but not least, FAMA $_$

Generally, one apply for scholarship after gaining admission to (i.e. securing a place in) a university.

JPA is actually consistent with this practice. JPA sponsored students, in fact, sign two different contracts:
a. ADFP -> post-SPM
b. US -> post-admission-to-American-University

Note: ADFP = American Degree Foundation Program, which is a different program from ADP (American Degree Program). ADP is the most common program (2+1, 3+0) offered by local private colleges (e.g. INTI). ADFP, on the other hand, is a PRE-university (side note: university is better known as "college" in America) program. While ADP implies affiliation with a particular American University, ADFP may or may not have such an affiliation.

The easiest way to describe the difference is that students in ADFP will have to apply for and enroll in an American college while ADP students are basically enrolled students of the particular affiliated American college. (With the multitude of programs out there, it's almost impossible for me to cover every single case, so I apologize for the really generalized summary.) What this means is that students in ADP are more often than not, inclined to pick their university from a pool which, unfortunately, is rather limited in terms of Top Tier universities.

US News www.usnews.com annually ranks American universities (e.g. Top 10, Top 50 lists). I would encourage prospective students to survey the list and have a general sense of where the universities stand. However, it would be counter-productive if one is to decide which college to attend to solely based on rankings.

Back to financial matters. Securing a financial aid package from a US college as an international student is not an easy task (you not only have to compete for limited resources with Americans, but also with other international applicants). Some college even explicitly state that "your chances of admission are reduced if you apply for financial aid." Nonetheless, there are also colleges which offer "need-blind admissions," meaning that your financial capacity (will you be able to pay for your education?) does not affect admissions chances (do/will you "fit" in the college?).

I am helping a friend (lilet) to post this.

Is there anyone out there who knows about the JPA Biotech program? Which country has current JPA scholars doing Biotech. I know US for sure, but is there such biotech students sent by JPA in countries like Aus, NZ?

Thank you.

To SPM leavers, please feel free to ask any question on scholarships here.
