Hmm... my sign-in is fine.

Why not turn off your modem, restart your computer, then after restarting, turn your modem back on, connect to the Internet, and try connecting to MSN Messenger again?

Is your connection firewalled? Did you check it and make sure that the program is permitted to access through the firewall?

If you are using a direct connection, it is unlikely that there would be problems connecting to the Messenger.

If you are using a connection through a router, or a wireless router, it could also be the problem of the router.

Why not try using Windows Messenger and see if you could connect using that? If you could, then it is most probably the fault of Windows Live Messenger. You will need to run the Troubleshooter and troubleshoot the error. Repair the connection until it says "Complete". If that still doesn't work, then you'd have to refer to the online manual for further instructions.

If everything else still fails, then it's time for you to grumble and rave yourself mad at the incompetency of Microsoft products.

Yeah, Microsoft sucks at times.

Hmmm... then it could be a problem with Windows Live Messenger itself.

At Windows Live Messenger, go to Tools > Options > Connection, see if you are directly connected to the .NET Messenger service. If you are, then by right you should be able to connect without problems.

Click on Advanced Settings and in that window make sure that all fields are left empty. The SOCKS port field, however, may have been filled with "1080". If so, just leave it alone.

Run a TCP Test by clicking "Test" and also an HTTP Test by doing the same thing. (Your HTTP fields should be empty if you are not using an HTTP Proxy.) If you get a "Success" message, then there shouldn't be any problem.

Then again, as I said, if all else fails, refer to my previous post, the second paragraph from the last.

Haha. Look at the date. It was December last year. But I agree. I'm having connection problems when signing in Hotmail and LIVE Messenger at the moment.
