As of now, Astronomers had agreed to remove the designation of Pluto as a planet. To put it in laymen terms, Pluto is no longer classified as a planet now...

So, the solar system as we know will only have eight planets up till Neptune.

Pluto shouldn't have been classified as a planet anyway, it's a part of Kuiper Belt.

and who the fish cares?

This is the outcome when you get a bunch of scientist with no real job together in a room.

this is precisely the attitude that causes many exciting areas in science to be crippled. because they don't know what are they talking about...nor do they care...

Wow it's been two years?! It felt like just a few months ago when there were nine planets.

Well, my guess is that a formal definition of a planet will clear up all the confusion regarding future discoveries of future bodies/objects. Imagine if every dwarf planet is classified as a planet, then we would have 13 planets in our solar system!

Although, aside from better categorizing, I can't really think of a reason for a formal definition of planets.

13? There are much more objects in the Kupier Belt than those objects if the old definition persists, we might soon have to deal with >100 "planets."

Well, for now, it's eight planets. Have our textbooks made the amendments?
