With the news of Genting winning in Sentosa Integrated Resort just being announced, this thread would be for all its discussion!

Kudos Genting!

From the recent crazy upsurge of Genting Bhd shares (Share code: 3182), fuelled by foreign buying, it was not hard to predict that this is coming.

I still remembered Genting Bhd always stayed around RM20 level during my primary school time. It has not changed much for the past 15 years. Not until recently where all of a sudden it rised from RM23 to a historic high of RM30 in just 2-3 months time (Sept 2006 - Nov 2006). I smelled something fishy at that time.

And this is the best justification I suppose.

Wow - you were tracking Genting shares since you were in Primary School? Salute your father on family education - no wonder the rich breads the rich...

Congratulations to Genting!

For the business savvy ones better start thinking of how you can come into the picture since it's now a Malaysian show down.

But I seriously doubt that there's some major backdoor deals happening. Genting has always been the forerunner (even during the times when the first IR was in progress) for the 2nd IR @ Sentosa, because of the way the "gahmen" of singapore positioned it --> A family centric resort. Genting has Universal as exclusive. Genting has dealt with muslims a plenty so sensitivity is there, etc. and otehr reasons that already put Genting in front. Other proposals merely add stuff to lure but they are ultimately bells and whistles that doesn't address the main concerns. The market simply share the same sentiment.

Oh, and if you guys don't know - you can get in for free while our Singaporean friends here have to pay something like $100 to get into the casinos...

Anyone trading in KLSE recently?

Time to go for a quick dip on Monday and get out soon. A case of "buy on rumours, sell on news" I think but there's still a small window of opportunity to make some quick $$.

I'm pretty sure that in a few years time the S$100 fee will be removed. If I remember right, Genting used to charge Malaysians for entering the casino as well but now its been removed. The S$100 may be just so that less people would be against the government building the casino(for now).

On another note, hurray for Genting! This should bring a lot of revenue in for the country. Can't wait to see a Universal Studios theme park in Singapore. Hopefully it won't be a disappointment like Hong Kong Disneyland.

I think Genting never charged Malaysians.

I remember Malaysians needed to put up a cash deposit of RM350 to enter which is refunded once you leave the premises.

Most likely to avoid punters of losing even their bus money.

Wow...nice pictures...(i mean for both Sentosa Integrated Resort & the Singapore PM on the 007 poster). It seems like it's going to take quite some time & a huge amount of money to bring that gigantic plan into reality. And I wonder whether Genting can really build the whole thing within the allocated time or not.

Btw, to jiinjoo: I did not intentionally keep track of Genting shares when I was young. All I did when I was around 9 years old was just hopping into my mother's car every morning in order to get to the school. And the news radio began reporting,"Today's headlines are......Turning to KLSE, Composite Index....Top Gainers, Renong....Maybank.....Genting....IOI...."

That's how I remembered its price. But frankly, I can't remember much about other shares' prices 15 yeas ago. I guess Genting was the most popular company in a kid's mind at that time.

Thank goodness, they didn't choose Kezner's fish tail design.

I have faith in Genting to finish it by 2010. Singapore government will be after their throat if they don't. And they're not building it alone either. The Universal themepark would all be build by Universal Studios. But I do wonder if Genting actually has that much money to complete the IR. S$5.2 billion is not a small sum.
