#1 Old 11-10-2009 Default Gender Gap in Malaysia : Result of The Global Gender Gap Report 2007

Sweden (1), Norway (2), Finland (3) and Iceland (4) once again top the rankings in the latest Global Gender Gap Report. All countries in the top 20 made progress relative to their scores last year ? some more so than others. Latvia (13) and Lithuania (14) made the biggest advances among the top 20, gaining six and seven places respectively, driven by smaller gender gaps in labour force participation and wages. The Report covers a total of 128 countries, representing over 90% of the world?s population.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Lets see how Malaysia has progressed from 2006.
http://www.weforum.org/pdf/gendergap/rankings2007.pdf

Overall Index Ranking

2006: 72th
2007: 92th

Sub Index Ranking
Economic Participation and Opportunity : 93th
Educational Attainment : 71st
Health and Survival Subindex : 97th
Political Empowerment :101st

Overall Index (1 = Equality, 0 = Inequality)

2006: 0.6509
2007: 0.6444
-------------------------------------------------------------

So we are not just behind other countries in the progress,
but the gap has become bigger.
If we look at the sub index,
I could understand the logic behind the low ranking in Politics and relatively "good" ranking in education,
but I have a tough time getting myself to understand what is happening with
Health and Survival Subindex : 97th
Economic Participation and Opportunity : 93th

as to be frank, I feel its quite OK in Malaysia (with my limited time spent in Malaysia after 2000).

Have you ever experience any situation related to the sub index above?
and how do you see it will develop in the next few years.
